Trix has decided the lagoon is the place to be this morning  !

We head out to have her BP/BW check at about +5.25. She tends to drop under stress, rather than climb...so hopefully we'll have a nice surf going for today's vetty visit! And hopefully the ACEI in addition to the amlodipine (finally consistently remember how to spell it  !) will have done the trick of nudging her BP back down to where we want it to be. We're also doing BW ahead of schedule today, because we need to make sure the ACEI isn't causing any other sort of issues.

I am hoping for the best with all of this and Trix is as radiant as ever...she certainly is feisty, bright-eyed, has a great appy, snuggle, social, etc. But I have to admit, at this point, I don't think anything will surprise me anymore, since all of our current "issues" were a totally unexpected shocker.

When I talked to my Mom yesterday afternoon, she said my Dad continues to ssssslllloooowwwwllly improve. The fever is gone and he is eating better, but he is just really, really worn out from this infection. I doubt he's even thought about whether or not for sure he's going to treat the prostate cancer, although I do know he's really aggravated that every time he has any sort of procedure done, he ends up with complications that wallop him, so I don't think he's gang busters about the thought of treatment. And, I've heard that many older men DON'T treat prostate cancer, since treatment can do more damage than good. But his case is a little unique in that - aside from this - he is absolutely the picture of health despite being 82 (which none of the doctors can believe he's "that old"!). We, we'll see.

I will post a Trix update when we get back from the vetty. We probably won't have the BW back until mid-week next week, because of the holiday tomorrow, and because of my vetty's usual "days off" schedule.

Have a great day, LL!

Amy

Re: 4/19 Trixie AMPS 99 +2.75 78 +4.5 88 BP/BW today

Morning Amy and radiant Trixie, :-D What a nice cycle Trixie is giving today. I remembered today was the day for a b/p check with the new med and also bloodwork. Sending lots and lots of good Vetty vines for a good report today on her b/p and also for the Labs. It's so good hearing how well she's feeling with feisty and snuggly.
Sending healing vines and prayers for your Dad for the infection to heal and a decision for the treatment, if even one is needed.

Re: 4/19 Trixie AMPS 99 +2.75 78 +4.5 88 BP/BW today

Hi Amy,
Good vetty vines for Trixie's visit today. I hope all of the results of the tests will be favorinle.
Sending get-better-faster vines to your dad. I don't blame him for not wanting to rush into more medical procedures!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Ella & Rusty

Surf safe, Trixie!

Re: 4/19 Trixie AMPS 99 +2.75 78 +4.5 88 BP/BW today

Paws crossed for good test results for the Trixster and calming vines for the bean. Vines for your dad too. The medical treatments are awful. I wish more people would consider diet.

Re: 4/19 Trixie AMPS 99 +2.75 78 +4.5 88 BP...NORMAL!!!!

Finally, finally, FINALLY!!! Trix's BP is normal! She was 130-139, so the combo of amplodipine and the ACEI did it's thing. We are only testing her BUN & Creatinine today, since all of her other BW was fine a few weeks ago; we'll have those results back in a day or two.

Vetty was still saying how Trix's case is baffling...she's never had a cat walking around with a creatinine over 5 and acting as if nothing was wrong. When we retested and proved that it wasn't a lab error, she thought for sure the U/S would provide an answer...but nope, nothing unusual there. She actually apologized to us because she doesn't have an answer, and neither to any of the other vettys at the practice.

She also suggested we can try tapering off fluids, since they might not be providing any real benefit at this time. Of course we will keep a super-close eye on Trix's behaviors and if anything changes, we will start right back up with fluids. The vet is big on balancing QOL with treatments, so if the fluids aren't provided a benefit and just adding some stress to Trix's life, we might as well give it a go. She noted that in general, Trix doesn't seem at all dehydrated (and she noted that BEFORE we started fluids), which is another one of the oddities in her case.

As of now, we go back again in 3 months for the mini-check up, BP check, and full renal panel.

Good job with her, Amy!

Re: 4/19 Trixie AMPS 99 +2.75 78 +4.5 88 BP...NORMAL!!!!

YAY for normal BP!!!! I'm sure you're just delighted with that news. Trixie is a little furry puzzle, for sure. I'm glad your vet takes QOL into consideration. I think it's a very important part of the equation, especially in Trixie's case, where no one is sure what's going on. I'll bet you're happy to taper off the fluids, too, since that is no fun for anyone. :-D :-D :-D

Sending healing vines for your dad. I've read a lot of articles and studies that say most doctors don't treat prostate cancer in men over 70 because it is a slow growing cancer and they are more likely to die of something else before it progresses far enough to be an issue. I think your dad should consider QOL, as well. What good is adding another two or three years to one's life if they are miserable the entire time? Whatever he decides, I'll keep him in my prayers, and you and the rest of your family, too. :YMHUG:

Great news!!!! I know this is a huge relief and one less thing to cause stress. It's so amazingly wonderful that she feel so well and maybe now that the BP is under control, the creat will come down. Paws crossed!!!

Sending your dad healing vines. I hope he can beat this infection quickly. I have read lately that prostate cancer is often over treated. You do have to wonder at his age if it is worth the side effects. Both my DBILs had prostate cancer and had it treated and wished they hadn't because of the side effects and that it is so slow growing, typically.

Re: 4/19 Trixie AMPS 99 +2.75 78 +4.5 88 PMPS 75 BP...NORMAL

Trix surfed beautifully into PMPS!

Thank you for all the visits and well-wishes. Yes, we are very relieved! I am curious to know what her kidney values are, now that the BP is under control. It may be a few days before we get them - in theory, they should be back tomorrow, but with tomorrow being Easter, I'm not sure if our vetty is working or not.

Spent the afternoon baking Easter goodies to take to my parents tomorrow...can't wait to try them out, but I am beat now! I have to say, though, it is so rare for me to not be working on a Saturday but despite the vet visit and kitchen tasks, it was a nice change of pace to not be at work today!
