Good morning Friends,
Happy belated Easter and Passover greetings.

Spring seems to be here...daffodils and forsythias seem to be in crisp bright yellows as never before. Or perhaps it seems so after a winter being what it was.

Azalea doing ok. We've done quite a few Vetty visits since last condo. Reg Vetty, dental specialist, and two visits to new HV whom Azalea obliges by accepting acupuncture (this is big yay, being that she's refused several attempts over the years by our "house call" HV).

Won't go into long details about how we came to be where we're at. The short of it is that new b/w (under light sedation) and snap test for FelV, fiv and heart worm were done on Good Friday 4/14/17. I added those results in her labs tab in Sootie's spreadsheet. Anemia again, etc. also she tested neg for FelV and heartworm, but "faintly positive" for FIV. Although it may explain a lot if the test is indeed accurate it's a shock with a lot of trying to sort out when (how long ago) and how the exposure happened.

Sorting through a lot of reading to find what additions or changes will best support her. Had already bumped up her probiotics, vit b's and immune support anyway. So, we just take it a day at a time, like everything else in the Universe.

On a more pleasant note, Azalea likes her new HV and has accepted two acupuncture treatments already.

Here are a couple of photos from yesterday: the first was in the morning while she was on the piano preening herself after breakfast; the second during her second acupuncture treatment yesterday.

With love, hugs and vines from us all,
Sina and Sootie's Tribe

Thank you, Kris. Yep, I'm the lucky one with her in our lives and for all these years. Although I feel more ancient each day, it seems like yesterday when I brought her home from the orphanage "for the weekend" when she was about a year old....near 18 years ago. She'd been available for adoption but no takers because of her stubby bent tail that must have been injured when she was a stray. I was the one who "received" her into the orphanage when the fellow who found her brought her in. Yep, we are the lucky ones.

She's such a sweet girl. I hope she really doesn't have FIV, but I'm sure you'll find the best treatments you can for her. I'm glad she is doing okay overall. Sending prayers. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'm sorry to hear sweet Azalea might have FIV. They say it can take years to show up after infection, but I couldn't find any definition of "years", so don't know if 18 falls into the range. Since it's generally transmitted by a bite, she could have gotten it before she was found. I see that Anemia is one of the symptoms, so that explains that.

I know that, under your loving care, Azalea will continue to have a happy, comfortable life, despite the new challenges. Sending her lots of healing vines and scritches to her and your other critters, too.

Sina, so sorry to hear Azalea might have FIV! I'm glad to hear that, otherwise, she is doing well, and accepting the acupuncture. Sending her prayers and healing vines! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

It's nice to hear from you Sina. I love that Azalea is doing well with her acupuncture appointments. The pictures are adorable. :cat:

Sending Azalea vines and you some hugs!:):bighug:

Hi Sina! I wouldn't worry too much about the FIV as it may never show symptoms. Has she ever been tested for it before?

Bubba had the FIV vaccine when he was younger so it shows up in BW that he has it. I had forgotten that he had the vaccine . Recently at his new vet she discovered it in his BW. I ask what we do about it and she said nothing unless he starts showing symptoms and that he may never have any. Then I remembered he had he vaccine and his former vet said that it would show up on future BW as if he had been exposed.

What I'm trying to say is don't worry about it unless she gets sick.

Adorable photos! Hope the spring weather puts some spring in your step ! As always. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Sina, I hope that Azalea will be fine and continue to enjoy and be content with her life in your wonderful family. Those pictures are so wonderful. It's great that she has taken so well to acupuncture.
Sending vines, scritches to the whole crew, and :bighug::bighug::bighug:s to you.

She sure is, Carla. Quite an amazing girl in her own cheerfully persistent way. I hope it's a false positive, too. However, if it is positive, it explains some things during the past couple of years, the weird "neurological events" in late 2014 that resolved a few months later (with lots of tlc and remedies) but then followed with the beginning of the recurring mouth infections. Either way, it brings to light other nutritional/botanical/non pharmos ways to approach this.

Thanks, Tricia. The way things have been these past few years, with Bo, Sootie and Azalea and with vets bouncing all over the place with maybe this, maybe that, sometimes its hard to believe what any vet says. But, I'm trying to keep an open mind, do homework, listen to Azalea and do best we can that is compatible with her and her feeling better. And I ask Azalea to forgive me for not connecting the dots or finding ways earlier that might really help her to feel better and not be in discomfort. She's been through so much these past couple of years.

Thank you, Lucy. Azalea sure is full of fortitude! And thank you and everyone for your vines and hugs and prayers and friendship. Big hugs from us all here.

Hi Amber and thanks. I hope The Empress is wearing her regal blues and greens more lately. And, wow, you'll be on summer break pretty soon, too.

Hi Bobbie and thanks. It may be the mouth stuff and the recurring anemia is part of the symptomatics of it or it may be chronic coincidence. Either way, the mouth stuff is no picnic for her and I'd like to be able to help her to feel better.
It's interesting about vaccine antibodies showing up in bubba's b/w. Good thing you remembered about him being vaccinated years before!

I wish could be antibodies from fiv vaccination but she never had it. However, she did test neg for feluk and fiv when she was 1 1/2 years old. She was 1 1/2 yrs then, was spayed and had the usual shots and the fip oral spray vaccine. But between then and now, no feluk or fiv tests, alas. Amazing that I could find their old records no problem. Was poignant to revisit those records, brought back many memories.

Azalea had a better day today. Plenty of mouth ooze from overnight but none throughout the day. Her appy was "could be better" but she was good about assist feeding. She of course is very much a Daddy's girl. This morning I found her on the front bedroom bed, alert and poised like a library lion while she watched Steve's every move while he puttered around the chest of drawers! And it definitely turned into a sunbeam day...she found the warmest ones and had good, relaxing naps.

We go with the flow.... as always....
With hugs and vines and thanks from us all, Bobbie.

@Gussie's mom : ❤ and thanks for popping in❤!

Hi Ella, thank you for checking in and for your vines. And were it not for you suggesting the raw liver shake, I doubt Azalea would have made it through her vicissitudes as well as she did. Thank you and enjoy the Spring! I with heaps of vines for you all, and crossing paws that Elvis becomes upright again soon!
