Indy continues to have little appetite. I was able to get him to eat a few small pieces of deli turkey and some salmon treats. Gave him a 1/4 pill of cerenia last night, I skipped the zofran because that seemed to knock him on his ass and didn't increase his appetite whatsoever. He is normally such a good motivated cat, I hate to see him like this.

Emailed the vet to let her know what was going on and she thinks it is his IBD getting worse or might be SCL at this point. Said to give him the chlorambucil daily for a few days and then wean him back again.

Feel like I am failing him. Anxiety is telling me this means I need to let him go. But my anxiety is off the charts so yeah ...

I hope Indy feels better soon.

How many mg is 1/4 tab of Cerenia - they come in various sizes. How much does he weigh? What does of ondanetron was he getting?

Chlorambucil daily will make him even more nauseous. And isn't any more effective given more frequently. Just my experience with 3 cats, but ondansetron was what it took to combat chemo nausea. SCL isn't a reason to PTS. It's a very slow moving condition and cats can go into remission. My current cat diagnosed with SCL 8 years is still around, and still with IBD too.

Wendy has a good point about the dose of Cerenia.
He may need a larger dose to help (based on weight).

You’re not failing him. You are fighting for him and he’s such a good boy πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ’“πŸ«‚πŸ«‚πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€

6 mg of cerenia. Indy weighs about 12.5 pounds

Ondanestron is 2mg.

Indy is helping prove my anxiety wrong. He just got up and had some more noms.

Just hard when he has multiple bad days in a row.

I know what you mean with PTS but what does it stand for?

I hope he feels better πŸ™

Thanks Staci. I'm trying. I just know with his age he can go downhill fast and I don't want him to suffer.

Good to hear Indy changed his mind about food. IBD is so stressful that way!

You can do 1 mg/lb of cat weight for maropitant/Cerenia if given orally. You are giving the smaller injectable dose.

PTS = put to sleep. Now forget the phrase.:bighug:

Yeah, he has slowly been nomming throughout the day. He is down in the 70s even without his morning insulin dose. Curious what it is going to look like at PM.

Vet said I could do half a pill or 1/4 pill. When he is given a half pill I think it suppresses his appetite even more. I have another quarter of a pill left and am thinking of doing that tonight and seeing how it treats him.

I updated the vet about him eating today and asked if she still wants me to do daily chlorambucil or if I should hold off.

Indy is currently conked out on his bed with the heating pad. I saw when he went into a deep sleep his head just all of a sudden fell off his paw. I had to double check his breathing it was so drastic. It does not look comfortable at all. (Was going to attach a pic and he woke up right as I was about to, stinker).

Vet replied and said to hold off on the daily chlorambucil but to keep doing cerenia indefinitely. I'm okay with holding off on the chlorambucil. But cerenia indefinitely? :-/

Gave him his cerenia dose with some deli turkey to try and help with the bitterness. So much drool....*sigh* wonder if I can get it compounded into a liquid.

Please don't cough it up Indy....please don't cough it up....

I guess I am just worried because his appetite isn't great when he is on cerenia. But I don't know if that is because of the nausea, the med or both. When he feels good he has a great appetite and begs for treats etc. I don't want to see him lose weight because we are suppressing his appetite when we don't need to be. Why does IBD have to suck so bad? Ugh.

Will he eat in a pill pocket or cheese?
Or can you give a bit of water with a syringe after you give it (maybe pill him?) πŸ’•
That way it chases away the bad taste?? (I do this with Ivy with any pill I administer via pilling)
