Had a really bad headache yesterday and just couldn't get myself together to post an update. So here we are today.

Last Caturday's post

Today was the first yellow BG reading in over a week and I was actually relieved to see it. I've liked the blue range she's been in, but when she dips into greens I always wonder if anything bad's going on. (We think today's yellow was probably due to the multiple Temptations treats she got all day yesterday for being a good girl - see details below. It's never spiked her noticeably before, but we think that's what did it.)

Anyway, it occurred to me this morning that I could give her a good-sized portion of higher-carb food or treat every now and then, just to test that she can still go up and stay in the yellows (but below her renal threshold, of course). My brand of twisted logic

WCR: She's been able to not only hop up the 5-ft kitty tower multiple times this week (which to us suggests she must be feeling pretty good), but yesterday I caught her hopping up at a faster-than-usual pace too, much to our delight. We're wondering if this improvement may be connected to us increasing (almost doubling) her fish oil dose some 1.5 weeks or so ago. Things are looking good in the arthritis/mobility department, so we may be able to push off the gabapentin decision for a little bit more. :thumbup

Not so good in the syringe-feeding dept though. She's decided that going into the closet is a good idea in between feedings. This is a kitty that doesn't hide, loves to be out in the open and watch what's going on. She still hangs out outside the closet once she's sure syringe-feeding's done for the day, and spent a decent amount of time on her wing of the kitty tower this week, but I'm re-thinking the PEG tube again. DH thinks we can still manage with the syringe alone though. Maybe we just need to figure out a way to let her know how many feedings are left, and when we're done for good.

How she earned her Temptations: she had a bath yesterday and was really good about it :-D We explained to her beforehand that since she was having trouble washing herself, and her fur wasn't looking as pretty, we would try to help with a bath. And told her we would put a towel in the bathtub so she wouldn't slip and slide all over. And that all she would have to do was stand still and not try to get out of the bathtub, and keep her eyes closed. She behaved immensely well! Stood mostly still, didn't try to nip or scratch, let us lift her to soap and rinse her underside, didn't cry until we got to the hind quarters (she hates having that touched) and then didn't cry that much, and even tolerated us blow-drying and combing out her fur afterwards. We told her how pleased and proud we were, and gave her a good helping of Temptations after that. And all night long we kept praising how pretty and soft and clean her fur looks now cat_pet_icon

U/s appt is this week, and we're pretty excited that we may get to meet Nina (I owe you a PM!). Cheryl, I will tell her that I'll save her shaved fur to put in a place of honour, not sure if that's enough to placate her though

eta: doh. +3~74. That's an average drop of 22% per hour. Bouncies, here we come ohmygod_smile

What a nice report WCF!!!! Meowzi must look so beautiful after he bath...you guys are such good Beans! Love hearing all about the latest! Many thanks! Hugs to you all! :YMHUG:

I just love the bath story. I wish my Mika-Monsters "washing feet" story was as nice and calm!!!!!

Sorry to hear the syringe feeding is becoming stressful for her.

You stopped the mirtz because it was not working well anymore, right? I found the same thing with cypro. After a few weeks off, it started to work again. I just cant give it on a daily basis or its effects will again wear off (or will have to increase more than I prefer). Has it been long enough that you may consider starting it again? Have you used cypro with Meowzi? Considered a fleck of that?

Here's to good eating vines and many more lovely baths!

Hopefully its a nice day and Meowzi can get out on a stroller ride!

As far as I'm concerned, it IS saturday and everyone else is nuts!

You should make an instructional video and call it Tubby Time with Meowzi, to show all the other kitties how it's done! Now you just have to keep her out of the closet. Have you tried the reasoning method with her syringe feedings, she does seem to respond well to it.

Great WCR cat_pet_icon

Cheryl (Winnie) and I have indeed been discussing starting Mirtz again after a gap - Cheryl's found it to be effective again too after a break, as you have with cypro. I'm hesitant to re-start for now, until we learn from the u/s how her liver's doing b/c she was on Mirtz for over a year and it is metabolized in the liver. Also, she does have two liver cysts that, in addition to her climbing renal values, may be affecting her appy.

Cypro isn't being considered b/c she's also on on Norvasc, and the combination of the two may bring her BP down too much.

Tubby Time with Meowzi    I don't know if she'll let us do it a second time. It was nothing like this

She isn't usually this good about baths, but sitting down and reasoning with her this time (we've never reasoned with her before) probably helped. Nina will likely see the other side of her at the hospital on Tuesday and be shocked  She's a whole different cat when she's at the hospital.

Sienne - of course there are pics, just haven't had time to d/l off camera yet ;-)

The bean is going BTB :)

I am loving the Meowzi report. I can just imagine how soft and fluffy she is after her bath. I'm standing by for the photos. Sending u/s snowflakes.

Wonderful to see Meowzi is doing so well - I can picture her bouncing up and down her climby tower, and looking all nice and fluffy after her bath!

Nice report on Meowzi today, WCF! It's wonderful to hear that she is jumping up on her tower, a certain clue that she is feeling better. I hope that the feeding issues get better.

That video is hilarious! I've never seen a cat that likes water that much! I'm glad that Meowzi responded so well to her bath and was able to get some temptations as her reward. I'm sure she really really loved those! I bet she is so nice and fluffy and soft and so vain by now, lol!

Sending good u/s vines and hope you guys enjoy your day!

Always glad to hear a good report on Meowzi. I know what you mean when you see them acting like they did before. It makes us so happy when you see them like before they got sick. Good luck on the US. Donna

Great Meowzi report love the bath time video I have had a few abys like their bath and purr thru it but never a cat that loved water like that
