Hi everyone,

Sami and I haven't been around for awhile. It seems that since she went OTJ two months ago I have been really busy.

Anyway, things are going well. I have been doing spot checks on Sami just to make sure things are good. Yesterday she was at 63 pre-meal.

One question I have is should I continue to give her the low carb wet food. I was considering experimenting with some medium carb food only to provide more variety in her diet. She seems to get bored with the same thing all the time. I know for most cats they can eat the same thing day in and day out, but she sometimes turns her nose up at some of the flavors. Or am I doing more harm by giving her a large variety? Should I stick with 2-3 flavors rather than 9-10 with multiple brands.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hope all is well with everyone here. I see a few more kitties have gone OTJ since we have been MIA. Congratulations to all!

Hey Tina!! Happy news from you!!
You know that diet control is what will keep Sami off the juice, right?? He is in remission, but not normal, in that you do need to keep him on a low carb diet--I change the flavors, brands, but not the low carb factor.--OTJ means that cat is off the juice, or on a honeymoon, and some have had to come back to getting insulin..You know you dont want that, so look in our food lists--There are enough choices to keep Sami safe for a long long time--
If it was me, I would not use med. carb, you dont want to get him used to that, as it could drive up sugar
Better to be safe, than sorry--Right?
Great to see you! Happy Sami is doing great!

Morning Tina....maybe you could let us know what you are feeding now...
IMHO I would stick with the low carbs myself. Not sure what others will say.
There are a few different brands to choose from....I have recently changed from FF to Petsmart SophistiCat Supreme and my two seem to like it. I sprinkle freeze-dried chicken on top most of the time too and they love that stuff. I also buy packets of Feline Future powder to mix with raw meant and mix some of that into their canned food. They do seem to grow tired of the same old same old....but I wouldn't mess with a good thing if Sami's numbers are good. I suppose that occasionally, it wouldn't hurt to give some MC but my thought is: what if Sami will only eat that once you introduce it?

Good morning, Tina & Sami!! How wonderful to "see" you!! Thank you sooooo much for visiting our condo, we have missed you both!! ;-)
Thrilled to hear that Sami is doing no less than the very best!! I have to agree with sticking to low carb, there are many flavors out there, I do feed a variety of flavors, but all LC!! Have a Blessed, Beautiful Day!! :YMHUG:

Hi Tina
So glad to see you drop in and that Sami was able to stop by Max's party.
I know he will be happy visiting with her in the falls.
I am so worried of Max's numbers creeping up down the road that I will keep
him on the LC as lng as possible, but you knoe, ECID.
Keep well.

good to see you! I'm glad to hear Sami is still doing well, 63 is great!

As far as food, your meter will tell you. ;-) I'm able to feed Lucy some slightly higher carb food every now and then. She's not very carb sensitive. It took close to a year before I was brave enough to experiment with that, though.

ETA - Lucy is not very carb sensitive, but other cats can get a big bump out of even low carb food. Be careful, and test when you change foods.

Hi Tina

nice to see you in LL. Sami doing great!
I've been toying with the idea as well, I only have two flavours to choose from with Wellness (fish and beef allergy)

I like Libby's way about it
...test when you change foods.

I would add, track it in your SS for example, if you like to collect data, this would be good stuff to track.
Hope it works out for you and keep us posted, would like to see how it turns out if you decide too.

All the best and take care!

Thanks everyone. Now I am probably too chicken to try, but if or when I do I will definitely do it at a time when I can check her sugar levels more often to make sure those numbers aren't creeping up.

Glad to here everyone is well. I hope to stop by every now and then, but life has been crazy. It would have been crazy again this weekend, but I have been sick since last Tuesday so I have sort of been grounded and not doing much of anything.
