awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
I thought Arnie had a good few days. Is he bouncing from blues now, since he had not really seen them for a while? Have not looked at your ss to see if there are any spot checks in there, possibly revealing that.

Just an observation, now that I looked at ss...and hopefully others with more experience with chime in. But, Arnie was getting back into some good green on 1u with maybe some bounces. You increased to 1.25 for one cycle because of the higher numbers, which may have been the bounce still in action...and then increased again.

Please do correct me if Im wrong (anyone) with what I interpret from the ss.

Keep getting those spot checks to see what happens when that bounce clears on the 1.5

Is he feeling any better? Eating more consistent?

Bob, I have to agree with Carolyn. I think you increased too fast. He was getting good numbers from 1.0 unit. His high numbers were not originally caused from lack of insulin but from an infection. My first thought is that the AB started to work but maybe did not completely clear the infection which may be causing the higher numbers again.

Believe me I know how hard it is to see Arnie in such high numbers....I am going through the same thing with Putty and I really have a hard time being patient but you need to be a little more patient and let the dose settle a little before reacting by increasing the dose. Sometimes too much insulin can cause higher numbers.

Re: 4/17 Arnie PMPS 316

At least it went down instead of up tonight!! Now I hear what you all are saying and I understand where you are coming from BUT last time I went against my gut feeling it was the WRONG thing to do. I am getting spot checks between doses and I will continue to monitor him closely. He needed the dosecrease. He is NOT dropping too low. There was no rebound just a steady climb in numbers. We will stick with the 1.50 for a few days and see what happens if there is no improvement there may be yet another increase! The vet even agreed with me that he needed an increase when I left there if things did not improve. They did improve but not for long. As soon as he got his appetite back the numbers shot up. It seems the higher his numbers are the hungrier he gets. Hopefully he will start to improve now on this dose...He better!! ;-)

Sorry about the high numbers, Bob. :( I'm certainly no expert, but I'd like to mention this for what it's worth. For about two months, Little Gray's numbers were higher than they'd been in ages. There was no infection, no reason. I wondered if Lantus had stopped working for him and switched to Lev. His numbers came down and stayed there for the rest of his life. A change might be something to think about if Arnie's numbers don't start coming down.

Hi Bob

how's Arnie doing tonight? Is he eating alright?
Hoping you can catch something maybe around +3 or +6, not sure what time it is for you.

close monitoring - like you mentioned, will give you a good indication of what this dose is doing.

I do find it very strange that Arnie would need more juice, he's been awesome for a long time, hopefully there is nothing else going on,
will keep all paws crossed for good turn of events!

I can only get a +5 in the afternoon and a +9 in the mornings when I am working both jobs which is all the time now except for my 2 days off (Tues & Weds) when I am actually off from both jobs. They did bloodwork and urinalysis on Arnie when he was at the vets last week. Nothing was found. Everything looked normal. I am beginning to wonder about the food. FF changed labels I wonder what else they may have changed? The vet also said it is possible the diabetes is just getting worse..it happens! We will wait and see what happens next! Actually scratch that (about the food) I think the real reason is the ear infection. I noticed last night the black gunk was building up in his ears again. I cleaned them out good.

Bob maybe the AB was not strong enough. It may have started to help initially which is when the numbers went down but did not really clear it which is why they are back up. I would call the vet's and tell them.....maybe they can prescribe another AB.
