OK somehow I missed this important sentence first time through. And I am buying mine from the vet. And I bought $50 worth so I'm stuck with it. I'll get a script when I go next. It'll probably be less expensive. They charged $40 for a $13 box of syringes but now I know. Yep, good old learning curve!
 
How many units in a ml? I think it depends on your metric (u40 or u100) - look on your syringe box, that should help.

Hoping Boots clears this rebound quickly, nice that he can get blues!

Did the vet sell you pre-filled syringes? If so, I'd call your local pharmacist (or a university pharmacy) and ask if this is OK to do. I know we tell people not to pre-fill a syringe for long term storage (i.e., more than an 30 - 60 min.) It is likely to effect the potency of the Lantus. You should not be stuck with the purchase of a medication that the vet is improperly dispensing. Lantus is very sensitive to storage-related issues. Your vet may be doing this because people complain about the cost. However, the cost for an individual cartridge/pen is in the neighborhood of $40 and you get at least 28 days worth of shots

U100 is the concentration of the insulin. It is also they kind of syringe you need to buy. (Some other insulins are U40.) The dose calibration and syringe need to match.
 
They sold it to me in a little rubber topped glass vial. about on inch and a half tall . Hopefully they knew what they were doing when they filled it. I imagine so.
 
U100 means that there are 100 units in a ml. That's why we have to use the specific syringes for the type of insulin. Each syringe can hod up to 30 units or .3ml. ML and CC are the same volume.

Did they tell you how much they were selling you? $30 for a box of 100, you got off easy, ex-my vet charged nearly $50.

Is it possible that the vet sold an un-opened new vial, not one that was filled at the clinic? If so, I would think that would be fine. It would have the manu. label on it as opposed to one from your clinic.

Regardless of whether you buy 3 ml cartridges or pens, or a 10 ml vial, once you begin using insulin from the container it has an advertised life of about 28 days. Some people do get more than that but if your numbers start to go wacky and your insulin is older than 28 days then you will see people recommend that you change to a new cartridge or vial.

It is more expensive initially to buy five 3 ml. cartridges than one 10 ml. vial but you have the potential for less waste if you have to toss it to start with fresh insulin.
 
It was a hand labeled, with Lantus, date and Boots written with a Sharpee, vial with 3 ml in it. They charged around $17 a ml. I think they break it up because of the small doses animals get, maybe? Make a nice profit too. I'll ask where I get my prescriptions filled and see what's up. But I'll definetly buy it elsewhere.
The vet I saw was not my usual one (same office, different vet) because this one had feral cat neutering and spaying fees which were much less. Maybe the vet that sees all my other guys will take Boots now too since I'm keeping him.
I'm pretty sure there were 100 syringes in the box they sold me, but if so they sure went fast. I've only been doing this since March 3..... I was wrong, I looked back at my notes, and there were 50 syringes in the box!!!!! for $40!!! And I bought 100 at Sam's for $12.58. No wonder they went so fast!
I'm thinking an almost $75 profit for supplies. THat's just wrong, I'm in there every month! I have another girl that has asthma and she gets a shot for that. Not to mention all the things that go on when you have as many as I do.
More added to my learning curve!
