Yesterday's Condo
Hi Everyone
It’s me Max. AKA Mad Max, Rainbow Kitty, Miracle Max & Marvelous Max
I asked my mom if I could write my last condo in Lantus Land. She said it was okay.
Here is my first post: 11/26 Max AMPS 463
My mom never formally introduced me to everyone here. She wanted to follow the “rules” of LL posting so she just jumped right in.
So I will tell you a little bit about myself. I was saved from the garbage with my 2 sisters. My mom adopted us and when we got home we found an older sister living there as well, Sasha (GA)
Over the years I have had several medical issues. When I was 2 I had fatty liver and dropped my weight down to 10 pounds. My mom fed me with a feeding tube that I kept throwing up and after 6 weeks, I got back to my old self. Then I had surgery for bladder stones, would not use my LB and then in Oct 2009, I got fatty liver again. That was when my diabetes was diagnosed, or should I say missed.
My mom took me to the emergency in November and that was when we found out for real that I had diabetes. She was so worried for me when I wouldn’t eat that she even spoke to a cat communicator to find out what was wrong and to tell me that she loved me and wanted me to get better. I already knew that.
My vet put me on Caninsulin but my mom insisted on Lantus. That began our journey here.
The first person to visit our condo was Sienne/Gabby who of course needed to help my mom out with all of the housekeeping rules
. Who would have known then that Sienne, Libby and Jill would spend many nights up late on the computer helping my mom out when my numbers started to drop? And then there were mornings with her coffee buddies, Miriam/Putty and Michelle/Scrabble when I decided to have really low numbers and my mom was afraid to give me insulin.
Of course we started at 1u BID and then kept going up and up and up and up. All the way to 6u. Many suggested that I might have acro, IAA or just be a high dose cat. I really did boggle the minds of a lot of people here and at one point we gave up the rule book and just went along with what I was doing. I know how hard this was for my mom. I heard her crying lots of nights. She was so afraid that I had been diabetic for so long that I would not get better. After all, I had the perfect reasons to be diabetic. I only ate dry food, lots and lots of it, I am overweight and an 8.5 year old neutered male. Gee, no surprises here.
We have learnt so much in the past 5 months of living in LL. I have made so many new friends and my mom knows more about the beans, the beans’ kitties, the beans civvies and significant others than she does about her friends outside of LL. Well actually, there has not been much of a life for my mom outside of LL but I know that strangely enough, this has made her very happy. I always hear her laughing when she is reading some condos, crying too when a fellow kitty has crossed over the bridge and cheering on her friends in their time of need or success.
My mom has given up a lot of sleep to make sure my numbers were okay through the middle of the night. I know how much she likes to sleep. Even on the weekend her alarm was set to wake up to test/shoot/feed me. She gave up skiing for me this winter because she was afraid to leave me home alone for that long and she tells time in the strangest ways now. Everything is now “plus” a number. 11:00am would be +4 for her.
There are so many people that my mom and I want to thank, and if we miss your name it’s because I am still a cat and my memory is not all the great.
To our Canadian friends, Ronnie/Luna, Gayle/Shadoe/Oliver, Dawn/Nova, Helene/Tizon, Linda/Bear Man.
Ronnie posted my condos for my mom when she went on her long Christmas vacation without me. That was so generous of her and it gave my mom such peace of mind leaving me behind. She knew all of you would be watching over me. Luna was also a great example as to what lots of testing can do.
Shadoe-My buddy going up the dosing ladder until my numbers cracked and she was diagnosed with acro.
Oliver-My new Canadian friend. I am so glad my mom got you your new mom.
Nova-How lucky for you that your mom called the shelter at just the right time and snatched you away into her loving arms. Even though you won’t let her kiss you.
And to my American friends that I just might have to get a rabies shot so I can come and visit.
Moonie-always the smiling face and oh so pretty . You melt my heart.
Shadow-the party animal. I so expect to still be invited to all of your parties
Stu-You will have to send (or bring) your Stu’s stew recipe to my mom
Logan – I will always watch over you and bring you to all the parties, okay?
Spot-I so need to get a pair of zippy pants like you have or the name of your tailor. Feel better.
Tugger-sorry my man but your mom posted a picture of your butt on the internet.
Gabby-the Drama Queen to my Drama King
Scrabble-My new buddy with the coolest muscle tees
Six-My down the dosing ladder buddy. Can you hurry up please.
Baby-Now I will never forget Baby’s first day in LL. Look at you now pretty lady.
Max- Almost there, after a pretty rough start. I am so proud of you and your mom.
Basil-I am so raiding your closet for those spiffy suits your mom bought you
Hank/Smokey/Boomer/Jasmine-my Gum day buddies. Did we set a record for trials at one time?
Latte-beautiful dear sweet Latte. Hugs forever and always.
To all the beans, the mommies, the dear friends that have helped me get better;
there are not enough thank yous in the world to say. I will be waiting for all of you at the falls.
My last thank you though goes to my mom and family.
I love you forever, I like you for always, as long as I’m living, your baby I’ll be.
