Lowest ambg in a few days, so that is good  He also hit a green number for his nini bg, which made me very very happy. But that +3 is heartbreaking  There was some LBA last night after Spot had his nini snack, some stinkie's, but was normal (no pudding), except it was a lot, lol. Hopefully that made him feel better.
I did speak to the vet, and she felt that insulin is not necessary AT THIS POINT. I'm just hoping that I know if and when that point comes. I guess when he goes over 200, but I fear that when he gets to that point, it may be to late....sigh :YMSIGH:
The ingrediants for the GlenHaven T/G gel are: Ingredients: 1% Acetic Acid, Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Cinnamon-Clove flavor I looked the first two ingredients up and didn't see anything that may cause a rise in bg's, but not sure about the clove & cinnamon flavors. I administered the gel this morning before I left....so now I have one of those "things that make you go hummmmm" moments.

I read yesterday's condo and given some of your responses, I am going to follow this game plan:
1) Since it takes about 48 hrs. before the ab's start doing their magic (Last night's dose made it 48 hours), so I need to sit on my hands for a little while longer.
2) Will continue to observe and get several spot checks.
3) Will go and get some probiotics, even tho Spot does not have any runny poos.
4) Discontinue the GlenHaven T/G gel for now.
5) Have positive thoughts and give Spot lots of lovins.

Thanks everyone for your input yesterday. Hopefully, things will start to look better.

Hi Deb-

My heart goes out to you!!! Dental issues are horrible for diabetics it seems. Stay positive! We're pulling for you!!!

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot AMGB ~ 117/ +3 ~ 151

(((Deb))) I know how you feel....sometimes OTJ can be more frustrating then being on insulin. You know what is coming when you test a cat that needs insulin but you cringe each time you test when they are OTJ.

The cinnamon and clove flavoring may contain some sugar.
When Putty was OTJ and his numbers started to rise my vet also said she would not put a cat on insulin that was under 200 for a previously dx diabetic and 250 for a newly dx diabetic.
I was not comfortable with a number that high so I did put Putty back on insulin when his bg was 160. I thought I would have to grovel with my vet for a new script but she knew I tested and was on top of Putty's treatment so she had no problem giving me a new script.

My other thought for not waiting until his bg was higher was I did not want his pancreas to work too hard to bring the numbers down. You know ECID and that may not be the same with Spot.....it could be an infection, it could be the cinnamon flavoring.

He may just need a little help for a short time to keep him OTJ again.

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot AMGB ~ 117/ +3 ~ 151

I'm thinking positive -- he has some other things going on that can contribute to these numbers.
Come on Mr. Zippy Pants, feel better.

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot AMGB ~ 117/ +3 ~ 151

I'm with D  Thinking positive thoughts and hoping whatever is causing the higher numbers clears up soon.

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot AMGB ~ 117/ +3 ~ 151

Sending hugs to you and Spot Deb.
Waiting is oh so hard
Hoping that this will clear over very very soon.

You know.. I would love to hear that there is some LESS stressful stage along the path of FD ;)..

Hope Spot feels better soon.. you are taking fantastic care of him, as usual!

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot AMGB ~ 117/ +3 ~ 151

Come on Mr. Zippy pants, zip down those numbers. I hope this is something simple and resolves quickly for you Deb. Sending positive vibrations.

I am thinking very positive thoughts for Spot. cat_pet_icon

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot AMGB ~ 117/ +3 ~ 151

Deb--You know how infection of any kind can totally screw with their numbers, on or off the juice. Moonie's numbers went up because of a acne pimple !! Remember that the teeth especially changes the numbers, so therefore, please:: Feed Spot before you give the ab's, as that can irritate the tummy, use some probiotic to help level it out, and all those other things you said..
I dont believe he needs any insulin yet, just wait it out a couple of days..I have faith that Spot wlll go back down on his own..
We are all pulling for you & Spottie--Come on zippy Pantaloons, we wanna see you all better!! Love Ya both!!! Healing HUGS~!!!! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot AMGB ~ 117/ +3 ~ 151

((((Deb))))) hugs to you and Spot!!!!!! It is probably the infection that is bringing his numbers up!!!! Sounds like the gel could be doing it too. Spot has done so well!!!!!
Wishing you positive thoughts and healing vines to Spot!!! Try not to worry, at least you caught the infection and he is on the mend. How many days do you have to be on it??

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot AMGB ~ 117/ +3 ~ 151

:YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon cat_pet_icon cat_pet_icon I hope the Bg drops as the infection goes away. C'mon Spot, you can do it!

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot AMGB ~ 117/ +3 ~ 151

OMG Deb....the beginning of Spots' SS is totally disgusting, isn't it? All those REDS :-| grr_red
My stomaqch was doing flips as I was scrolling down to the sweeter blues and greens. You two have come a LONG way, eh? Celebrate the NOW. He did have a bad infection that might take a little time to clear (picturing what is going on in his mouth)
IF...and that little word is a big one....IF he needed more, it would only be a tiny amount for a tiny amount of time...right? His numbers are still low and considering what his body is going through...well, just monitor and do what you said in the above post. Isn't it great that we have the BG information at our finger tips? It's such a great gauge for seeing how they are doing.
You are right on top of things. Spot is healing. I am sure that all will be well....we are all hoping that he will pull himself out of that and get back to lower numbers....Come on Spot Boy!! You can do it!!!

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot AMGB +9 ~ 110

Thanks everyone for responding and giving me the encouragement and support I do badly needed..You guys are awesome and just so wonderful!!

Just got home from work and need to run out again, so this post is going to be a bit short...will do more when I get back.

This +9 isn't bad, considering the fact that I brought home a little four legged terrier minutes before taking this test. I didn't realize Spot was out on his chair (he blended in so well), so I just let the dog free in the yard. Well, Spot thought that he needed to tell Jack the terrier just who is king around here, so he gave him a big ol hiss as he was running towards him. Jack, of course ran away and I brought Spot in for his test. So, I am pretty happy with this number...I bet you guys had a lot to do with this one!

Well, gotta run...bbl!

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot AMGB ~ 117/ +3 ~ 151

Ok, so you made me go to your SS to find out what the a.m. +9 was.
Yes! I'd be happy with that 110 too. Yeah for Mr. Zippy pants... and hissy pants too.

I am literally sick to my stomach seeing this number

There are a few factors going on here....his already dx'd infection, the visiting terrier, and he also threw up some grass he had eaten about 20 minutes before this test.

I just don't know what to do here....I know some of this is stress....If numbers aren't any better for his ambg, I will be giving a drop of insulin. Visiting dog will be gone in three hours, he won't have any grass to throw up... :YMSIGH: :YMSIGH: :YMSIGH:

He is eating good...didn't to eat at first (dog was in house), so I put the dog outside in the yard and some freeze dried chicken livers sprinkled over his food....I also got the probiotics and put that in his dinner tonight also. He finished the whole bowl. To look at him, he's the same ol' Spot, purring like there isn't a care in the world. mama bean, on the other hand...well, let's just say I had to pick my heart up off the ground

He's going to be fine. He'll get back on track.

If you do end up giving him a drop you won't make him tank and it won't mean the trial was a failure. He's still getting blues and greens! ((( Deb )))

(((Deb))))) you poor thing, my heart sank when I saw your post!!! Hopefully all of the factors you stated are affecting him and he will get back on track! At least he is acting normal and seems happy. Hope things get better!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, we have special lil' condos for kitties who need a drop or two and don't want to come all the way back from the Falls.
They are filled with soft cushions.

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot PMBG +2 ~ 173

Brought himself down some from pmbg....

Spot was sitting outside on his chair after dinner tonight and I was just getting ready to go out to get him to do his test and there was this HUGE BOOOOOOOOMMMMMM. I ran outside and Spot was sitting on the porch with his eyes wide open and looking a little scared. I picked him up and held him close to me to calm him down. I held him like this for 5 minutes until he started to purr more normally. Although this number is still much much higher than I would like to see, I'm not going to panic...the BOOOOOOOOMMMMMM could have added more stress on my boy. Will be getting another test in two-3 hours.

D, thanks for cluing us in on that condo w/the soft cushions. It's nice to know that we have a "safe place" to go!!

(((Deb))) I'm sorry you're having a tough day.
Come back down Spot. The dog is gone, so it's alright, now.
Mommy will protect you from the big boom

Re: 4/15 Deb's Spot PMBG +4 ~ 139

lol, thanks Nicole...not sure if I like that saying, lol

He's still coming down...a small sigh of relief here
Spot is definitely feeling less stress...dog is gone and it's all quiet here. As on cue...Spot came out of "hiding" at his testing time...jumped up on the chair and assumed a position...not the testing one, but the one where he is all relaxed, part of his body on the chair and part on my lap....and waited patiently until I was done chatting w/friends on fb for his test. He hung out on his window seat while I was getting my shower and he is now in the living room w/me, giving himself a bath and waiting for his nini snack.

So, with a lot of luck and your continued support...maybe ambg will be a nice low blue...yep..I'll be happy with that :-D

G'nite everyone. Thanks again for all you words of support and encouragement. It is sooo much appreciated!!!

I've very glad to see Spot bringing his numbers down. (I can't imagine how glad you are!) I agree with your plan to give him a drop tomorrow if the numbers are still not where you want them. Did you have a number in mind?

(((I'm sorry, Deb))) it was intended to be positive... meaning.. his #s may be a lil higher.. but they will get better.. I deleted it.

hi deb. sorry to see spot has some things going on here. numbers aren't bad, but not good. i'd probably want to give a drop of insulin just to offer support, but as soon as the abs clear the infection... he may drop right down into normal numbers because we have a kitty who has a working pancreas. these are "i am sick" numbers.... not "i'm a diabetic" numbers. we just want to help him along in the mean time.

tomorrow is friday. i think i'd wait til tomorrow night to start a drop of insulin so i'd have the weekend to monitor. and just like what jojo told me with alex... it's ok to use karo and hc to bring up low numbers or a fast drop when you have a kitty with a working pancreas. feeding lc will only cause him to drop more.

make sense?

Agree with Jill (don't we all?). But, please find the "dear mom" letter...

We all want Mr. zippy pants to keep it up, however...I think it's time to revisit the dear mom letter  you are a great momma bean!

Breathe Deb, you know your boy.

Well this explains why Spot suddenly disappeared in the middle of his shift at Maui's condo! Maui couldn't understand where he went. One moment he was cleaning out the pool and the next poof! he was gone.

She thought he got into the niptinis a bit early and passed out in the cabana.

Come on Zippity Do Dah Pants, feel better and please show us some better BG's. You've got a pool to finish cleaning!

Hi - I was just browsing and noticed you mentioned cinnamon. I didn't notice if anyone else mentioned this, but cinnamon is used, at least in people, to lower blood sugar and prevent or improve insulin resistance. Of course, you don't know exactly what's in the flavoring, but...

Deb, Please post when you can ,so we can know how Spot is!! I'm sure he will be just fune, as Jill says, he has a functioning pancreas!!
Every set back, is a set up for a come back!!!!! Luv you both! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Com'on Spotty! Feel better!! You've got a party to go to!

Stu

Hi Deb, I'm sure Spot will come down again soon and be fine. Hang in there! Thinking of you both and sending those vines!

Ella
