Well, we ended up finishing yesterday off with Xander having eaten about 86% of his calories (I aim for 165). He did eat better at night than he did during the day.

Not sure if anyone has much experience with calorie intake, but I'm a little concerned about calories in general. Using the catinfo.org guidelines, it seems like the generally recommended amount for male adult cats is ~180 minimum. Xander is 12lb and he's not "fat" by any means, but he is a smaller-framed cat (surprising for a male black cat! I feel like they're usually pretty big) and the vet said maybe 10lb would be good for him, but not to bother with that until he's more stable. Since I'm not trying to add extra factors like a lot of weight loss right now, I estimated his "ideal weight" to be 11lb (right in the middle), which is how I get the 165 (15 calories x each lb). On a really good day he'll get about that amount. Lately it's been more between 100-130/day. He's never been a big eater. Last vet visit he'd actually gained 0.08lb, so he's not losing despite seeming so low. Not sure if I should be worried about it if not.

Nevermind that, I'm just really, really dumb. ^

We had such a great day yesterday that now it looks like we're in a bounce. Interestingly, he did still have an active (but elevated) cycle overnight, mostly yellow. It's only now that he's more pink. We'll see if he goes down more drastically in the next couple of hours I guess.

Hope everyone has a safe, boring day. :)

I've heard 20 to 25 calories per pound of ideal body weight daily. ECID. Leroy eats about 200 calories a day for 9 lbs (should weigh 10 but IBD/diabetes/being a weirdo ) but is basically a walking skeleton :nailbiting:

I've seen that too! That's even higher than the one I'd been basing mine on. I legitimately don't think I could even get him to eat that many calories on anything at an acceptable carb level. I had thought at one point the gravy lovers I keep on hand for hypos would probably at least have more calories so I could fill in if needed... Nope. They're even lower. I mean I guess if he seems fine, it's probably fine. He's always been a nibbler.

Yes, please take them, Leroy! Take them far, far away! :D

Nice blues, Xander!
I don't know much about calories.
Butch is about 16 lbs and eats 2 1/2 cans of FF about 92 calories a can. If he is having an active cycle he is eating more.
Wishing you both a relaxed calm night and safe surf!

You know what? I think you helped me a lot more than you expected. Xander also eats FF and I aim for 3 cans a day but he doesn't usually end up wanting all of it. We aimed for 3 because that's what the vet told us to do. I based the calories per can on the Dr. Lisa document that gets referenced in a sticky here and because of the way the page splits in the pdf, I missed a crucial detail. Sigh. So it turns out I've been thinking everything's, like, half the calories that it is. So thank you! If it weren't for my thinking that calorie count was way higher than I remember then I might never have noticed. Now I'll have to go back and recalculate but he is almost definitely fine on calories lol

Brianna, I am glad I was able to help! :bighug:

Come on, Xander! Hold those nice numbers into tonight's PM cycle (I just anti-jinx everything at this point)!!

Side note - Binx is just under 12 lbs and he eats 300 calories/day but he lost a lot of weight after diagnosis and I don't think he holds the calories well.

Maybe we should all just get "anti-jinx" tattoos that we tap anytime we speak at this point! lol

Ah, interesting! Poor Binx though! I know diabetes in general causes weight loss, but jeez, 300 and still losing is insane. :(

In what crazy world would any of us be able to leave the house to attend this :woot: but heck yea I’m in lol
lol That's a good point. Or have the energy, etc.

There's a FDMB forum for meet ups :) It's not very active though. Years ago, the forum was pretty active and there would be meet ups all the time. I vaguely remember a few threads where members would get together and do a FDMB members trip to some destination.

That's so cool! It seems like it'd be hard to find a central place for everyone since we're all so far apart, but it'd be such a cool experience. The friends we make here are like the only positive aspect to this whole thing, so it'd be really nice to get to do that one day.

This is utter fantasyland, but if it weren't so stressful and difficult for the kitties it'd be so amazing to get to meet each other's sugar kitties too!!
