Hi guys. Spot is having some issues with higher bg's and I could really use some input.

Some background:
Numbers have been in the 120 range and higher since the 8th....with the occasional green thrown in there. I took him to the vet on the 12th...the higher numbers plus some really smelly breath, had me thinking that something was wrong in his mouth. Found out that one of his upper teeth was poking in his lower gum (where they had previously removed a tooth) and was creating a "pocket". His gum was a little swollen, and smell was coming from that side of his mouth. So now he is on clindamysin, twice a day (plus I also put some GlenHaven T/G Gel on his gums (supposed to be like brushing his teeth). His numbers are still on the higher side, even with four doses of AB's in his system. I thought the AB would give him some poo problems, but he only had one bout of pudding poo, which was the first night. Since then, I haven't really seen him go, so he may be a tad constipated.
Has anyone ever head of this AB causing constipation?
Also, please take a look at his ss and tell me if you think I should give him a drop of insulin to help bring those numbers down?
Part of me is saying wait until the AB's are done and over with to make that type of decision, but part of me doesn't want to wait to long...HELP!!
Spot is acting just fine. He is enjoying time spent outside on his chair, sitting next to me on the recliner, and his appy is normal...he is always ready for food, lol!! So maybe it's just me being paranoid...Thanks guys

wish I could help with the AB but even with working for a vet I am still unsure of what ones can make our BG rise something I am sure hoping to learn soon sure hope Spot's gums heal ok for you thats a great AB for oral problems :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon

is the clindamyacin liquid or pill? Some of the liquids have sugar in them. Also make sure the gel doesn't have sugar.

Infection could be raising his numbers. He brought himself down today, which is nice. I don't know, I think I would wait since he's bringing himself down, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on.

Glad you posted here Deb.
I donlt have answers for you but I knew this was where you sould be.
Hugs for Mr. Spot and his zippy pants.

ECID but it looks like one of the common side effects is diarrhea. If Spot is constipated, that could also be influencing his numbers.

To be honest, I'm not liking some of Spot's numbers but, I'd be concerned that once the ABs kick in, his numbers could drop. It looks like he's been on the ABs only 48 hrs. I might give it another day and if his numbers don't start coming down, then maybe consider some insulin. I know Jill put Alex back on insulin due to dental issues so I wouldn't let this play out for too long.

Well, it's good that you had that taken care of, right? I bet the infection is making the numbers go higher.....how long does AB take to kick in? Is it 48 hours? Hmmmmm....you should start seeing improving numbers as it begins to do its job. I hope. Know you will keep checking him and keep us posted too, k? ((Hugs))
Did you get Fortiflora for him or some other probiotic? Even if there is no poo problem, it's good to replenish the friendly bacteria....give Spot a big kiss from the 3 of us....
