Good morning LL-
Wow, who knew this dental/lumpectomy process could be so stressful. Thanks to everyone who visited our condo yest. I really appreciate the support.
The vet sent us home w/ bupe syringes but I had no idea they intended for us to give it orally until I realized there as no needle. And they never mentioned that it needs to be absorbed in his mouth rather than shot quickly (which is what we did first). I was up at 2:00am not able to sleep so did lots of research. Talked with the vet tech today and she said we could use our insulin syringes and give Fur Ball the bupe by injection vs orally. That went soooo much better and I hope he gets more of the dose. I wish they would not presume to know what a pet owner will do. They didn't offer it as injection because "most people won't do that." That is exactly the same reason they did not encourage us to home test when he was dx'd diabetic!!!! Ugh. Vets are frustrating and it makes me even more grateful for all of you.
We got some baby food (Gerber stage 2 chicken) and he finally ate about 3 tsp this morning before his next bupe. We left him in the bathroom overnight to help contain him as he was so out of it yest. He purred when I went in to see him this morning. THAT was a welcome sound. His BG is still high for him at 145 but at least it is coming down. I had blocked his ability to get under the bed but DH didn't think he would go there and removed the boards. Yep. He hid. And then pooped. I'm just glad that is working for him. He has also peed 3 times since coming home which I'm happy about.
Used his last test strip so need to go get more. I doubt I'll ever be comfortable going long stretches of time of not testing.
Hope everyone has a great Saturday.
Karen
