Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +3 93 +4.5 71

+4.5 71

Well, we did tell her to get back to green!
She's eating a snack of her regular food now.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +3 93 +4.5 71 +5 80

+5 80

With that 71 are we looking at another reduction tonight?

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +3 93 +4.5 71 +5 80

Thanks. Keep in mind we use an AlphaTrak, not a regular meter. I know the rule is generally 80 for that.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +3 93 +4.5 71 +5 80

I just wanted to check and see when the last reduction was since I've been off board the last couple of days.

So, yes...she gets a reduction to .5u!! YAY Ruby!!!! Her SS is starting to look really nice.

Good luck with the reduction. BTW, if she does bounce back up for any reason by tonight's shot, you can shoot through the bounce tonight with the .75u and then take the reduction in the morning.

Have a great day, Amy!!

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +3 93 +4.5 71 +5 80

look at Ruby go.

It looks like last time you reduced after 70s (after shooting through the bounce) and she held the reduction. I would probably go ahead and reduce, especially if you are going back to work tomorrow.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +3 93 +4.5 71 +5 80

She's been doing incredibly well lately (anti-jinx). I'm fine with shooting thru the bounce if necessary. Done that before.

She's being a bit of a slug today. I changed the sheets this morning so she won't get off of the bed. That girl loooooves freshly washed sheets.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +3 93 +4.5 71 +6 80 +10 99

+10 99
I'm curious to see if she will hit a bounce or not.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

PMPS 67

Wait, what?? 67?

I'm stalling and testing again in 15. Any suggestions?

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

She did throw up about a tablespoon of clear liquid right after +10, but then went right back to playing.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

do you have a non-AT that you can check that number with, amy? if it's in the 40's on a regular meter, we can stall and see if she rises on her own. if it's in the 30's on a regular meter, you need to give her HC.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

Some general rules when stalling (ECID):

** 50s or higher – don’t feed. The number will bump up on its own soon due to the insulin wearing off.
** 40s or lower – you have a couple of choices.

When 40’s occur at the end of the cycle, it can be beneficial to withhold food and test in 15-20 minutes to determine if kitty is on the rise or hasn’t reached nadir yet.
If they are hanging in the 40s for a while, or if they are still dropping, it is ok to feed a tsp or two of LC and retest. This is very tricky. You want to avoid feeding too much while you’re waiting for them to go over 50, because you don’t want to artificially inflate the number with food.
--- Example: if kitty is 43 and you feed a whole meal, or feed some HC, and the number bumps up to 52, is that the cat’s natural end-of-cycle rise, or is it food spike? What if it is food spike? Then if you shoot the 52, when the food wears off he might drop back to the 40’s (and when insulin kicks in a couple of hours later, you might have a problem). If the 52 is the cat’s natural rise, then he will probably keep rising for the next few hours until insulin kicks in. If you can’t tell whether the number is food spike or natural rise, it’s safest to wait. Your data will help you here. Study the spreadsheet. How much food spike does the cat usually get? How many hours after the shot does the insulin’s onset usually occur in this cat? At what number is the cat likely to be when onset occurs? If the cat does drop, how easy/hard is it to regain control of the numbers? How carb sensitive is he?

** Test often (every 15-20 minutes, or at most every 30 minutes). You want to catch the rise the minute it starts. With most of our cats, once they start to rise they will really zoom. You want to get the insulin in as soon as possible, because it will be another 2-3 hours before the insulin kicks in and you don’t want to let the cycle get too far ahead of you.

Perhaps the most important guideline in shooting low is that any time you shoot your lowest ever number, you should get a +1 and +2 to give you an idea of how the cycle will go. If the +1 is not higher than PS, or if +2 is much lower than PS, that means “pay attention” over the next few hours. Those tests will also help you become even more data ready for the next time you are presented with a low preshot reading.

Using the overlap by shooting low is a great way to take advantage of Lantus/Levemir’s long, flat cycles, once you have learned to do so safely.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

ok, *whew* that's safe to wait 15-20 min per libby's directions in the sticky that i quoted above. test then and repost. you want to catch and shoot as soon as she begins to rise.

i was pretty sure i remembered right that you had another meter. thanks for double-checking it! i'm more comfortable on that one.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

I can use both, no problem.

Why the big drop between +10 and PMPS?

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

sometimes Lantus has a "double-dip" where you've seen a clear nadir earlier (like her +4.5) and then you see a secondary dip later. as soon as she's above 50 you can shoot - or 60 if that makes you feel better. i'm talking relion numbers here, not AT.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

I'll use both meters tonight.

So I'm guessing I should go ahead and take that reduction down to .5 tonight and not tomorrow morning? ;-)
I know I asked for her to not bounce, but geez-o.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

I know! ohmygod_smile
She's over here, pawing very softly at my leg and giving me the teeniest mewing noises meaning "Mommmmmmmmmmmmm....I'm hungry! Why can't I eat yet?"

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

have you checked her again yet?

what a sweet girl! punkin gives me his 911 yowl "I'M STARVING OVER HERE!!" there's nothing sweet or subtle about him when he wants to eat.

Keep stalling or feed her a bit?

She's now chasing the husband, trying to get him to feed her.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

LOL about chasing the husband! Exercise can reduce BGs, so if she gets too insistent maybe try to get her to back off.

Ruby means business, doesn't she? I would definitely take the reduction tonight, whenever it is shooting time.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

i'd wait another 15-20 minutes and repeat.

i'm going to be here for about 20 minutes and then out the door. how comfortable are you? should i see if i can find someone to hang with you or do you feel like you know what you're doing. sometimes it's nice to have someone hanging out, even if you do know what to do, just for the company.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

So if she's rising on the next test, feed and shoot or keep stalling?
It might be a good idea if someone can keep an eye on us for awhile. I'm ok on my own with lower numbers in a "normal" situation, but this is the first time I've danced this particular number.

Also, what does this mean for tomorrow morning because we'll probably be running about an hour late on tonight's shot? I normally shoot at 6:15 and leave at 7:15. I can probably make it home for a mid-day test tomorrow, but I can't shoot too much later than normal.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

I'm around tonight. Multi-tasking, but I'm keeping an eye on things.

Let's see what the next number is and then figure out what to do. I would rather see her out of the 70s before shooting, definitely.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

ok libby - thanks!

i'll be looking for ruby's bounce when i get back home tonight, amy! you'll do fine!

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

how about another 15 minutes, for good measure? It looks like she is headed up, but another few minutes won't hurt. It looks like you have shot 90s before, but not recently. It also looks like Ruby might be losing her bounciness (anti-jinx) so things are changing a bit.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

I'm around, too, Libby, if you need to step away...just let me know.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

Alright, there she goes...
+13:
Alpha 100
Relion 57

Ok to feed & shoot .5?

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

looks good to me!

If she bounces, you can shoot at +11 or +11.5 tomorrow morning. If she doesn't bounce, play it by ear.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

Thanks!

I'll take care of her now and be back with a +1 in an hour.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 67 HELP!

Good! Nice shooting. See you in an hour....one of us will be around.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 100 +1 126

+1 Alpha/126, Relion/76

Back in an hour!

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150 +4.5 71 +10 99 PMPS 100 +1 126

+2 Alpha/100, Relion/61

I'm making sure she eats a bit more of her dinner to keep her up.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150PMPS 100 +1 126 +2 100

Good...she needs some LC....this is low for this early. I'd recheck 30 mins after you feed just to see how fast she onsets.
Be back in 30.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150PMPS 100 +1 126 +2 100 +2.5 85

+2.5 Alpha/85, Relion/53

Uggh. Now what?

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150PMPS 100 +1 126 +2 100 +2.5 85

awesome.

How about a little low carb food to see if that will help her get onto her surfboard?

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150PMPS 100 +1 126 +2 100 +2.5 85

I'm going to crack open a different flavor. Maybe that will keep her from getting bored. I'm worried that this early in the game she'll stop wanting to eat because she's full.

Re: 4/1 Ruby (AT) AMPS 150PMPS 100 +1 126 +2 100 +2.5 85

The low carb I have is all 2% - 4%. I rotate those daily.
The medium I have is about 7%
Then I've got gravy varieties.

She's already eating some FF Beef & Liver right now. She had FF Chopped Grill for dinner.
