last post (It's been a few years since I've posted)

Vet said his kidney values are normal but on the high end of normal so in an older cat like him, it can mean early chronic kidney disease. She said we can talk about getting him on an early renal diet or a kidney prescription diet but that it's not entirely necessary at this time.

We were at the vet because he needed dental extractions.

I'm nervous about a prescription diet because a different vet when he got diagnosed with diabetes put him on a prescription diet and it was really expensive and he refused to eat it. That's when we found this group and switched to FF. He's been eating FF classic pate for 4.5 years now.

I don't want to wait until it's too late to do something (I waited on the dental until the vet said it was necessary and he ended up needing 8 extractions!) So I read through old posts here and decided to order some Weruva Chicken Checkmate due to its love phosphorus and carb level. It's more expensive than FF and I'm on a very low budget but I'm hoping this helps us avoid more costly vet bills.

Also just wanted to mention that the vet wanted to charge $500 to check his blood sugar and ketones for the dental appointment. I told her I was on a budget and could do it at home and send it to her and she said ok. So I got charged $100 instead of $500. The rest of the bill for the dental was still ~$3k which I will be working hard to pay off but I felt a sense of accomplishment knowing I saved $400 because of this group teaching me how to home test!!!

Sorry to have been away so long. Kitty Cat has since become an experienced traveler and accompanies me on my yearly cross country work trip. He says hello to all the kitties reading out there! :)
