What does this mean…. Kahlua came with one? Back story, please! :)
We are Kahlua's 4th family. Our neighbor's girlfriend was owner #2 and she sent Kahlua to live with him. He became owner #3. But, he didn't bother to give her insulin. He had 2 other cats who beat up on Kahlua. She spent most of the summer and early fall sitting on our deck all day. Even in the pouring rain. My girls started sitting in the garage all day with her because we couldn't stand to see her out there soaking wet. Our neighbor kept hinting that we should keep her and my husband finally agreed. She was pretty sick by then. I thought for sure we'd lose her that first night. Someone on here sat up with me. She had stopped eating and weighed about 5 1/2 lbs. She's double that now. And I can't imagine her not eating! Anyway our neighbor gave us her vial of Lantus, which was opened in July and hardly used. I just emptied it last night. Our current "new" bottle came from a lady here in town who's cat died in September and she'd just opened a new bottle of Lantus. She gave me the vial and all her syringes!

All of our cats ended up here by fate, I guess. Kahlua arrived from next door. Lulu just showed up in the garden and eventually moved in. I suspect she was dumped. And Mouse we found out on a country road one night. She was a super tiny kitten who I bottle fed. We also have a Chihuahua. We went to adopt a kitten and came home with a puppy. She kissed me......I'm a sucker!

How do the kitties get along with the doggo?
They don't.....I tried...She was a puppy and I thought she'd learn.....She lives on the first floor and the kitties get the second floor and the attic. We used to have a gate at the foot of the stairs, but Kahlua isn't deterred by a gate. So now we have to close the door. And now Mouse has started coming down, too. I don't trust Ginger. She is all Chihuahua and chases the cats.

oh wow! you must have your hands full!

This sounds a little like my house! Except with me it's all cats! I'm glad I asked you to tell me about Kahlua. I thought I was the only one who didn't know about her. Thank heavens you took her from the neighbor who obviously didn't want her. I have to admit that I probably would not have waited for the neighbor -- I think I would have catnapped her (since they weren't taking care of her.) I can't believe how thin and sick she was. Does she stay indoors now? Without you, she would definitely be dead! And look at her now. Look at those numbers! You are WONDERFUL!

Awww.....you are too sweet. We did actually take her to the vet before we owned her. But they wouldn't treat her because they didn't have permission from her previous owner. We went to the same vet because they had her records and we knew nothing about her other than she was diabetic. If I wasn't married, I'd have brought her in sooner.....I am the crazy cat lady!

She does stay indoors now. Bad things happen to outdoor kitties. We had tons of barn cats growing up. Coyote, raccoons, cars, illness......awful....
