Looks like a mellow day and the timing is pretty good!
The carb manipulation thing is something I have hard time understanding.
I don't see a clear linear relationship to BGs - I guess there are so many extra things that get in a way.
I guess I just have to keep trying out different things to see.
Hope you have a mellow night and get to rest up!
Alas, no mellow night. Just a lime sort of night.
It took me awhile to sort of figure out what I needed to try with carbs. It was sort of counter intuitive at first? But if Kit's high, and she's on a dose where she's likely to drop fast, especially early in the cycle (as is her wont), I try to slow it down at +1 and maybe +2 so we don't see the 100+ point drops. It felt more intuitive when I thought about it that way. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I have to start with a higher low carb food at preshot to keep her from dropping too fast.
I sort of look at it as if she's high blues or above, I'll feed a 7 or 9% because that's what it seems like it takes to slow her down. If it's over 100, but not too high, I feed 5-7% at +1 and maybe +2. And all of that is because she gets into these cycles of good numbers, then she'll trend a little high and have a huge drop really fast, which pushes her into a bounce, which she then drops from, which pushes her back into a bounce, and she just gets into this cycle of drops and bounces. So whatever I can do to curtail that.
I honestly wasn't expecting the drop from 141 to 59 tonight, and then a lime, so tomorrow might be a bounce. Or she might not, she likes to surprise me. And as you mentioned yesterday, it's easier for them to recover from some deliberate high carb to keep them where we need them
occasionally (ECID, but having to constantly feed MC and HC to keep them in good numbers is not a great method), than it is to try to get her out of the bounce/drop cycle.
I also think that if I hadn't had Eric feed 5-6% at +1 and 2 while I was gone, her vacation dose might have been too high for him to manage whatever would pop up. I got back on Saturday, so it had been 6 days since we had put her on the vacation dose, and I wanted to see what happened if I just fed her the 3% she gets at shot time, and she dropped to the 80s. Which I definitely wasn't anticipating since we'd lowered her dose a quarter.
Hope that all makes sense! None of it is set in stone, and I just sort of try things until something works, and then adjust when needed. Just trying to keep the curve gentle so when she gets to those lower numbers, she can stay there without bouncing. IN theory.
