Yikes. That’s a high amps, which followed a nice overnight stretch of “Libre greens”. So those numbers are higher in a handheld, but still nice to see. And her am cycle was also lower in Libre greens, some under 100 numbers on Handheld.
She really seems to do a big, drastic bounce after these lower cycles, then comes back down. ;)

As for the hyperthyroid situation…spoke with my primary vet yesterday, finally. We went over her labs. She feels strongly Ivy should take methemizole meds and see how she does. She doesn’t think Ivy would do well with the I131 treatment, especially the hospital stay and concerns of eating (and kidney/diabetes). She also feels that such a radical treatment can injure her kidneys and she doesn’t think it’s worth the risk given her many complicated conditions we are trying to balance.
I also heard back from Blue Pearl Levittown and they don’t think she’s a good candidate given all her concerns and temperament.
HypurrCat in NYC so far won’t even return my call. They want you to fill out extensive paperwork and arrange for a review by Dr. Peterson (at a fee) and they will let you know if you will be considered into his program.

So at the moment it looks like we are headed for the meds and will try them and see how she responds, then have labs done in about 6 weeks to assess, and see from there. We will try the transdermal ear medicine as I have read has a better chance of less side effects (paws crossed). I insisted on the lowest possible dose of .625 mg for a starting point. There is a local compounding pharmacy that I will use and should have the meds by probably Friday or Saturday. (Very nervous of these meds from what I’ve been reading. Really hoping she doesn’t lose her appetite).
Wishing you all a calm day with very safe surfing :bighug::cat::bighug:

Hi Staci,
Thank you for sharing the update on Ivy's treatment plan.
Sounds like a good plan to start with the conservative approach, given the complicated health and appetite issues she has.
It is scary to start a new medication - not knowing how she will react. But you are such an observant, caring mom.
You will find and nip any problems before it has a chance to sprout!
I'm praying for you and Ivy that all these things will go as smoothly as possible.
Hope you can sleep better now.... take good care of yourself, Staci! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Staci
I am so glad you finally have a plan and can move forward to getting Ivy better! I think it’s the direction I would have chosen with everything else going on. I always lean toward the conservative approach too, when dealing with new meds. It will give you a chance to adjust if any problems show up.
I hope now that you have a plan you will be able to rest a bit and be ready to help Ivy with this new path, as you have with all her other challenges! Go Team Ivy!
Sending you and Ivy prayers and hugs!

Good meowning Staci and Ivy!

Looks like Ivy and Mikan decided to compete in the trampoline Olympics this meowning but just as fast as these girls jump, they will also come down just as fast. Just not too too low. I already told Kit and Mikan I'm putting swim trunks on Nestle and I'm directing him towards the beach. Hopefully they can all meet there soon and have some beach fun!

Thank you for the update. I dont know much about this but it sounds like a best course of action, especially since it doesn't require having Ivy staying overnight at a clinic. I think that would have been the most stressful part for both her and you. I know you will take such great care of her and she'll be well.

Happy Wednesday

Good to hear you were able to speak to the vet and get some answers. Sounds like a good plan. Just from my own experience don't be surprised if you have to go up a bit on the dose over time. Hoping for no side effects and good results!

Hi Kit, thank you so much. I really hope this is a good plan but all signs just keep pointing to this is really our only option right now.
Yes I am so concerned about a new medication and side effects for her. She’s so sensitive with all of her conditions. It’s such a fragile balancing act.
I’m trying to calm myself, but it’s difficult. I’m easily stressed. Calm is not my nature so I have to work at it.
anyway…I hope you are having a nice day with no drama.
Ivy has decided to be flat so far today, so maybe that’s a blessing since I need to get cooking her food for a few hours.

Thank you Karolina. I don’t know much about all of this either. That’s why for me it’s so scary! One more disease to learn and try to understand. Ugh. :(
I thought Ivy world head to the beach for a Nestle and Mikan meet up but apparently she’s having a lazy relaxed day with no drama. I guess she doesn’t want her ears poked too much. Maybe that’s a blessing for me today given my mental state.
Hope you guys are having a great day and thanks again for your sweet support:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi Vicki, I really appreciate your giving me bits of information here. It’s quite helpful from someone who’s been through it. Thanks for popping in and I hope you guys are having a great day and Gravy is doing well:bighug::cat::bighug:

Hi Deb, thank you so much for your sweet message, Prayers and hugs. We need them all and we really appreciate it.:bighug:
I hope we’re on a good path for her since she’s so fragile. Although, every time the vets look at her physically they tell me how great she looks. She looks good in person but on paper she looks like crap. It’s kind of scary.

Hope you guys are doing well and Tiger is doing great on his. Have a great day.:bighug::cat::bighug:

This sounds like a great plan for Ivy, especially with her concurrent conditions. I will be praying for you both, and sending lots of positive thoughts your way! Try to take care of yourself as well, Ivy needs you. HUGS!! :bighug::bighug:

I keep my fingers crossed everything works out fine with the transdermal ear medicine! It sounds like you really weighed all your options carefully. Ivy is really super lucky, to have such a thoughful mum! :cat::bighug:

A plan of action! Now that things have been narrowed down, you know where to aim your attention. Although you have new things to do and observe, at least having a direction must be a bit of a relief. :)

Well little Miss Ivy decided to do a jump at shot time. So I know some insulin landed on her fur. Then I was able to reinsert the needle and give the remaining part of the dose still in the syringe. So definitely a somewhat lesser dose and a PFS. Little bugger that she is. Always something with her.

And she was a slacker today, too with no real action. Guess she’s feeling lazy with all she’s got going on

Waiting for a call from the compounding pharmacy to confirm the order for the hyperthyroid transdermal meds. I had to call my vet office around 2:30 pm and they still hadn’t called it in. I hate having to be the squeaky wheel, but they really give me no choice.
And it will take a few days for them to prep my order once they have the order. So it’s a whole week gone by and it would be nice to get some medicine into her so maybe she’ll start feeling better. (She’s drinking a lot). Poor girl. :(

Thank you, Heike. Very sweet of you to say so. I adore my girl. :bighug::bighug:

I hope it will be a good med for her. Once I see if she does ok on it then I will be able to breathe a little. Very nervous about it all.
Thanks for your kind support :bighug::bighug:

I'm glad that you've had a chance to talk to her primary and that you've got a plan worked out. These dang fractious kittens! Some days I wish I could talk to Kit cat and explain and have her tell me why she freaks out so much. But maybe not all the time.

Scritches and hugs. However you wish to dole them out. :joyful:

I wish we could talk and they would understand us, Alicia. If only. It’s their fractious nature that makes things so much harder than they need to be.
When I was having a conversation with my vet last night, she acknowledged that Ivy doesn’t like to be restricted or wrapped up and held down. She says she needs to be respected and I have to agree with that. That was really interesting that she recognized that about Ivy. Now, if we could just convince Ivy and Kit to behave and stop fighting over everything things just go a lot smoother.
Scritches and hugs back to you and Kit, too :bighug::bighug::bighug:
