I saw your comment in yesterday's condo:
Also clarified that when she checked his teeth before she saw 'normal' amounts of tartar but nothing that seemed worrisome to deal with immediately.

In a diabetic cat, that's enough to be a problem. You may see a vast improvement with a dental. A vet can't see too much without having them under anesthesia, but often it seems if there is anything visible at all, when the cat is out there is a lot more going on. I would schedule a dental for him. It can make a lot of difference. Sandy's BK & Linda's Scooter both went OTJ after a dental. Of course it's not as easy as get a dental and go OTJ plan for all cats, but for some cats, it can make that much of a difference.

Several kitties are having dentals in the next week or so - you might read other condos and watch to see what happens with their blood sugar post-dental.

Both Neko and Gracie had dentals earlier this year. Both had teeth that looked great via visual inspection. Both had bad teeth only discovered when they had X-rays. And Neko had had a dental the year before with X-rays showing good teeth so that had happened in a year.

Neko bounced black the first time she saw green. A little more insulin can usually help the bouncing. I'd be thinking of 4.75U if you don't see green by end of tomorrow.

thanks ladies; just got a pm+4.5 and he was still going down to 324, so I think the bounce is clearing, but I doubt we'll see better than yellow again maybe. I guess I need to consider the 4.75 increase tomorrow...
do I just insist the vet schedule a dental over her feeling that he doesn't look so bad right now?

If your vet is capable of doing a good dental (not all vets have the ability to do dental x-rays), I'd just tell her that you'd like to go ahead and get the dental done so you get it while it's not really bad....that you want to stay "on top of it" instead of waiting for it to get bad

That should make sense to her...and if it doesn't, you may need to look for another vet

You can always say even though it doesn't seem too bad, you'll feel better having it done. "Humor me" works too.

There is a post on dentals on the New to the Group sticky in the last section.
