Hi Angela, as I was just gazing upon your SS I couldn't help but wonder....when is that nose dive happening. If pz takes about 2 hours to kick in...and supposedly your #'s are on the rise until pz kicks in, well call me crazy but I'd love to see a +1, 2 and 3 just to rule out major pancreatic action taking place before the shot kicks in.
This has happened with Tom where I wake up and test and feed him about 2 hours before shot time and I've seen him time and time again come down as by hizself an hour or two after breffis BEFORE the shot. Thus making it necessary to shoot the aftermeal # instead of the before breffis number which may be higher.
make any sense?

You know Lori, that might be the reason. I had forgotten about the patterns Tom gives you. Those +1 +2 and +3 readings would tell a lot then.

i'm starting to think every nose dive kitty should be given the morning pancreatic action test. i mean it is so strange to have the insulin kick in at +2 and dive 300 points in an hour. tom can't be the ONLY food dropper on the board!!

I'll try to get in a +! 0r +2 soon.
His pattern is crazy to me with the much higher AMPS.
Yes it makes sense, he sometimes drops more at night too after eating when insulin should be wearing off.
Tonight's PMPS +12 was 290. Gave 1.25 U

angela, some cats who's pancrease is still working will actually kick into gear after a meal. particularly the first meal of the day. it was very true for tom and it makes perfect sense to me. it can throw off the dose you would want to give.
an easier way to test for this would be to test at +11 in the am. and feed and test again at +12 amps. if the number is lower...bam, you know.

3/25/11
+11 446 fed 1/3 can FF
+12 PMPS 403 1.25S Fed whole can FF at 9:15, ate 1/2 right away, other half at 10:15.
+4 289 Fed can FF at 1:00PM ate 1/3 then
+6 338 eating leftover 2/3 can FF at 3:10 finished
mid cycle and +4 are higher today.

When did you shoot, Angela? At +12 before the food? Wonder where he was at +1 or +2 and if that would help complete the picture?

Higher numbers but less of a drop.....

well looks as if he did not go up but rather down some after his +11 breffis...then continued on down. yes, the +1 would be nice too.

I gave him his AM shot at +12
breakfast at +11 so yes he dropped after breakfast at +12 at time of BG test.
Low on strips
Just got meter and 300 strips DCIN sent so maybe will try to get in some earlier tests tomorrow.

So what that usually means is that you have a pancreas that is still willing to work. This is good news, Angela. And I think you might be able to use this to help lower his numbers. Since it's that amps that is always too high, maybe that feeding you were trying around +9 will lower the amps over time. Not sure if my thinking is right, but others will let me know. Maybe not just a snack at +9, but a real meal?

sue i never did end up with a feeder. but seeing as how tom sleeps right thru the night without moving an inch and snores and all, i don't thing he would have eatten anyway. his amps were ALWAYS higher and then i figured out he kind of eats during the day and the pancreas is active...then for 10 hours or so no meal is served and pancreas shuts down for the night and #'s go up. the breffis was wake up call and he actully never went up after breffis but rather down. no diabetic cats do that.....or do they. it's never been tested or believed until tom came along and routinely dumped 2-300 points in 2 hours in the morning...pre-shot.
if this is not tested on a kitty it 'appears' that the insulin kicks in hard and fast. so be on the lookout for that phenomenom if you see it.
