Hello everyone,
Here is Simon's yesterday.
We went to the vet this morning for a follow up visit (he was due for a shot also). The vet is pleased with his progress and seems to think Simon ought to try to go OTJ. I don't think he's there quite yet! Vet continues to think the 60s are too low for Simon (I tried to explain how the human meter runs lower to no avail; I told him my civvie has been in the 60s when I test her). I think a light went on then and he said "maybe you should come compare your meter with my equipment on the same sample." I think vet is very competent and has given us good care with all of our pets, but I think that perhaps my time in LL has educated me beyond where he is comfortable   But you know how stating that you heard something on a message board goes over! I may have to dig up my journal articles. I feel that I will have better results if I keep being pleasant as I try to share my info.
Vet really wanted a fructosamine so I finally consented because it sounded like he wasn't really eager to write a new Lantus Rx without it. Does this test show us anything that we don't already know from my SS? I understand it gives an average, which my meter can do already. Can anyone tell me about fructosamine values and what we are wanting to see so we can be prepared?
He kept calling the values in the 60s "profound hypoglycemia."
One other question: Does Simon's SS show any signs of our vial of Lantus pooping out? I'm not sure what typically happens and how one can tell. I do think he is needing more insulin and his values aren't changing much. His vial was opened 1/5/12. I have handled it well but not perfectly. I'd give myself a B+. It's been on the counter for an hour here and there when I got distracted.
I have refills on the vial so at the worst I can transfer that Rx to Sam's or Costco and just get a new vial. I would prefer the pens in case we're at this for awhile! Still haven't found a Dallas pharmacy to sell me one pen when and if I get an Rx.
