Hi all,

The vet said to take Princess off the insulin. Her fructosamine number was lower than a non diabetic cat. I am in disbelief! Also, no more heart murmur! Thanks for everyone's help. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Yay Princess!!! :woot: So happy for you, Marie!! Fingers crossed for Princess! I hope my cat Elizabeth does as well as Princess has!!!

I wish Elizabeth well too. Princess was diagnosed on 2/7/15 and started at 1 unit too. I used the Alphatrak 2 also. There is great info and incredible help on these forums. I couldn't have gone thru it all without them. :bighug:

Hi Marie - interesting news from your vet. Some heart murmurs come and go so it's good to keep checking it, but good news it's not there now. :) In your yesterday's condo, I posted the SLGS description of remission.
Remission is reached when kitty can go 14 days without insulin while maintaining normal blood glucose values
Princess was almost ready to try an OTJ trial by the SLGS method, but not quite. Normally we would have them either earn one more reduction from the 0.25u dose or go a week in normal numbers. Since you are going to try going without insulin, I strongly recommend that you continue testing her twice a day, in the morning and evening for two weeks. Feeding several small meals throughout the day will also be easier on her newly healing pancreas. If by any chance her numbers start to creep up out of the normal range, then you may have to start her back on the smallest dose of insulin. Post here for advice should that happen. We find that the longer a kitty can safely stay on insulin, the stronger the remission. Approximately 25-30% of diabetic cats in remission have to go back on insulin - we want to prevent that for Princess. Good luck!

Hi Wendy, I was thinking the same thing, of keeping Princess on the .25 u dose for a few days and let her get to the final reduction on her own. Im glad the vet said take her off but the vet hadn't bern following her numbers the way we have on the board. I don't want to do this prematurely. I think if I keep her on the .25 and she drops again below 90 then i will take her off. It cant hurt to see what happens in the next few days. Marie

That's great news but I would have to say that I would follow Wendy's advice. A few more days to support princess's pancreas should help her archive a strong remission.

I agree. I think i just got caught up in the thought of her being OTJ. The vet hasn't really helped me thru this as much as you all have. Im going go keep her on until she needs another reduction. Another .25 reduction would be the last one, correct?

Since you are following SLGS, .25U is the last dose. The folks following Tight Regulation usually go to .1U after .25U.

Princess is doing really well. :) And so are you Marie!

Thank you, Wendy. A question....how can they see .1 on the syringe? Im struggling seeing .25!

You have SLGS in your signature, so that's what I've been using to suggest things for you. That would mean .25u to zero.
