Hello.
we just returned from Albuquerque ( 1 hr 45 min drive) from an internal medicine vet.
I liked him mostly.

Even though Shadow probably would have laid still, he sedated her ( twilight ) , she had a personal anesthesiologist watching....
He said he likes for them not to squirm and sometimes he presses hard to get a better view.
They had pre-agreed that I could be in there but they made me stay out until they had the iv in, and she was sedated. I've never seen her lay so perfectly on her back ( cradled by a special pillow) with her little feet in the air. such a cutie....

I will have the write up in a couple of days but basically everything was the same.... thickened small intestine.
He wasn't so concerned about her pylorus .... said that and the stomach are often thicker in u/s because of the limits of that kind of view . He said often lymph nodes can enlarge due to inflammation even with IBD. So the lymph nodes don't necessarily mean cancer.
He did draw blood in my absence while they prepped her to run some specialized test ( said only one lab in the country does it) that is a better determining tool for ibd vs lymphoma.
I know it was $200 of her $890 bill. so I'm broke.......
but I sure would like to know.
I'll tell you the name of the test when I get the print out.

anyway, I let her roam in the car, doors locked, both ways ..... she's a bit vocal and clingy.... following me wherever I go currently, very lovey dovey.... can't complain about that.
licking all her shaved spots, especially her foot where the iv was.....

he did make me feel better about what's going on.....

bring on the ktss......

You're such a good mamabean! Shadow is lucky to have you helping her. Sounds like things went smoothly. Hope the special test provides some answers one way or another. Hugs and scritches from us!

All paws and fingers and toes crossed here. :bighug: It does sound like a more positive second opinion. Now I'm curious about the specialized test too as it seems a number of kitties here face that same question.

It does sound like a positive visit today. Interesting in the IBD vs lymphoma test! I hear the KTSS is on the way!!!

It sounds like this visit was productive. Sending prayers for Shadow and you for a good report.

Yo Shadow,
I'll be along with the KTSS and we'll get that vetty smell off in no time.
Rusty

Hi Rhiannon, this is a postive report. I hope that the special test will give a good result. Let us know what it (the test) is, when you find out.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Any chance of some pics of the belly shave, they are soooooooo cute!

Sending vines for good test results

Interesting about the test you mentioned. I'll have to ask Harvey's IM about it tomorrow. They never said anything about one to me and said a biopsy was the only way to know for sure. I wish you had the name so I could refer to it that way, but maybe she'll know what I'm talking about anyway.

It sounds like Shadow came through the ordeal pretty well. I hope all the vetty smell is gone now. :cat:

Ok stupid question, but what does KTSS stand for?

I am glad that this was a good vetty visit. I would be curious about the name of the test as well. Skooter was dx'd via about 10 biopsies they took from up and down his GI tract if I remember correctly (it was so long ago).

Gotta love those surprise vetty bills, NOT! I can feel you on that one, but it is nice when they are all snuggly wuggly :)

so I went and got my notes.... see if I could find some kinda reference...

he made me a little chart.....
. . ..... ... . IBD ...... . . .LSA ( lymphoma)
TK ... ..... none ............ x
HP .......... .... x ............... x

so the test is for the TK and HP ....
if both are present.... then it's lymphoma...
if only the HP is present, it's ibd....

so I just googled the letters with the conditions and got
http://vdilab.com/pdf/25_TKfelineTechSheet.pdf

and I'm guessing the hp stands for Helicobacter pylori

that's all I got.... maybe some of you have a better guess......

he said only one lab ran the test.....

This does sound like a pretty thorough, pretty good report. I, too, am really curious about the specialized test for distinguishing between the IBD and lymphoma. Very interesting.

Sending lots and lots and lots of vines for the results.

It it's helicobacter pylori, I know that's something that gives people IBD symptoms. I have been tested for it twice, myself.

Thanks for putting it in the subject line, Rhiannon, so I knew to check back. I wrote it down so I can ask Harvey's IM about it tomorrow.
