My apologies for not being around for the last few days. Anxiety went off the rails...so much fun! Even with sensor malfunctions (grr). Indy was doing fairly well. Getting some greens and lots of blue. Then a couple of days ago we started getting yellows again and he said hello to stinky pinkies. He did so again before his shot this morning. I know some wonky days can just happen so I have been trying to be patient and wait to see if it sorts itself out. He had a nadir of 111 yesterday...which is still decent. I don't know if my anxiety can handle a dose increase right now....feels like everytime we go from .75u to 1u it is good for a couple of days and then limes....so we go back to .75u again. ARGH!

In other Indy news, I am trying to not freak out over his cough. Vet is willing to do a chest xray but part of me wonders if I should do it. His quality of life is pretty freaking awesome and I don't know if I want to know what is causing the cough. He has had it for months at this point and it doesn't seem to be bothering him. He coughs once a day or so (that I notice) and then goes back to normal. But on the flip side, what if it is something we can easily treat? I feel stuck....

Non-Indy news, Fluffy the bearded dragon decided to choke on his salad. So I had to take him to the emergency vet for them to retrieve the mustard greens from his beard. I'm done.

Think Indy's pancreas heard me grumbling. Reached a nadir of 93 at +5.5.

Still don't know what to do about the X-ray. He has had this once a day cough feels like forever and it doesn't seem to bother him. He isn't wheezing, no cold extremities, no blue tinged gums, no nasal discharge, no lung noises...just a once a day cough and his breathing rate is a little fast. Don't know if I am borrowing trouble or what. *Sigh*
 
Hmm. I see how you’re feeling stuck. I’d feel the same way. I have zero experience but I can talk through how my mind would work.

How involved is bringing him for the x-ray, do you know? Would it be pretty hard on him? I suppose if you knew what the cause was, and it was untreatable, the result would be the same in the end. If it is treatable then that’s obviously great.

I’d be tempted to throw all the information in AI if you haven’t already. Take with a grain of salt and verify, but sometimes it has good ideas or perspectives. Maybe it’s one of those things that older cats can get and it’s a monitor for change type thing. IDK. What’s the vet’s sentiment towards it?
 
For the last few months she has been "just keep an eye on it." I think I have pestered her too much and now she is willing to do the X-ray.

I think it will depend on if he is willing to be x-rayed without sedation. He *hates* going to the vet so we would wait until he is due for his next Solensia shot which is on the 13th. Vet is only a 5 minute drive away, which is helpful though at least.

I know he is an old man (will be 18 next month) but his his quality of life is pretty good. I want him to be happy and healthy.

I called the vet and talked to a tech. She said they can get a lot of information from an X-ray. So we scheduled it for the 13th. Now I'm going to be a nervous mama until then.
 
So I did a quick AI/Google search (like Tim suggested) and one of the suggestions I got was feline asthma. Here are the symptoms:
Asthma doesn’t always look dramatic.

Some cats:
  • Cough once daily
  • Have brief episodes (10–30 seconds)
  • Act completely normal afterward
The cough is often:
  • Dry
  • Repetitive
  • With the cat crouched low and neck extended
Even mild asthma can present exactly like this.

This video is long, but pretty informational. It even shows what a feline asthma attack looks like: feline asthma. The good news: if it's feline asthma, it's highly treatable.

So glad you were able to help Fluffy!! Goodness! Very distressing!
