Hello, I haven't posted much over the last couple years, but I wanted to come here to say thank you to all on this board who helped us when Taffy was Dx'd with diabetes in Oct 2016.

I have no doubts that I would not have had so much more time with him, were it not for the wonderful people here. So thank you, so much.

Taffy enjoyed life and felt good until the last couple months, he started to decline and was needing more and more care. He had a mass detected early 2020. He was nearly 18, I decided not to do further, invasive diagnosis. Taffy hated car trips, and going to the vet regularly would have been unkind to him. So we just enjoyed the year.

He was an old man who had slowed down a lot, but he still enjoyed jaunty walks around the house outside, taking an occasional sprint towards a tree, which he wanted to climb so badly.

And my boy still enjoyed his foods! Always. I was always so grateful to have a diabetic boy that was good about eating his foods!

And he was such a good patient. He knew when it was time to get checked and he would lie down and let me crouch over him putting his two little white tipped paws together under his chin as I poked his ear. Then he would get his noms, and a shot, and he was ready to go!

For most of the last 2+ years he was only on .25 ml of Lantus. We never got to go OTJ, but we had our routine mastered.

At the end, my final gift to him was to find a home visit vet to come help him pass at home. And she was the most wonderful woman, truly. She was kind, gentle, compassionate, patient. It was a very peaceful and gentle passing.

Aww what a sweet tribute to Taffy :cat: He sure was lucky to have you looking after him. Sending lots of love and peace to you all :bighug: Fly high Taffy cat_wings>o

((((Julie)))) I am so sorry it was time for Taffy to earn his wings. :bighug::bighug::bighug: I am so glad that in the time of Covid you could still find a vet to come to your place.

Taffy will be in fine company at the Bridge with the rest of our GA's. cat_wings>o

Julie, what you wrote - your short story, is beautiful and made me smile, practically visualizing all the love. I also adore the name Taffy, and his beautiful picture fits! I've never known of a kitty named Taffy.

This place was (soon after Tina was diagnosed), and still is, special . . . the knowledge of just about every health issue in felines has added a lot of quality of care in my own girl's life. Much more than doctors alone could have done.

Sincerely wishing you peace, I try to understand the life cycle, but when it is such a personal loss at the end of a well lived life, like what Taffy had, it can take quite a while for the beauty of that life to outweigh the grief over the loss: I hope the precious memories take over the pain of loss soon. What a special person that boy had, before crossing the bridge. He must be dancing and prancing, and wishing you happiness :cat:

For you

Thank you! You were one of the angels who helped me learn. My middle of the night assistant, often. Gratefully, I learned my kitty's patterns and we were able to fall into a relative routine that we were both comfortable with. I knew how/when to adjust. Taffy let me know when he needed me. Thank you again

Thank you. Such sweet & kind words. Taffy came to me with his name, he was 9 years old. His 1st Mama named him and she passed away, so I did not want to change his name, as he had been through so much change already. I have had to often correct people who call him a "she" due to the name. But someone told me that "Taffy" is a boy name in England, so there's that!

I took him in and he healed my broken heart from a previous sudden loss of a young cat who resembled him. I'm sure you know how close we get to our sugar kitties, with such intense care. I am at peace knowing it was his time and the gentle assistance we received, but the loss of the routine is jarring.

This board is a wonderful treasure of support and invaluable help. I regret not keeping up with posting throughout the last several years, but my life was changing frequently.

All my best to you and your kitty

The Upload a File button isn't currently working, but you can either copy and paste into the edit box, or just drag and drop them. I would love to see some pictures of Taffy.

Awww...so very sorry to hear that Mr. Taffy has gone over the bridge. He does sound like a charming fellow, in spite of his diabetes he had a love-filled life! You were so very kind to bring in someone to help him pass. It is always heartbreaking for us to send our little ones on this final journey but remember he is resting and you're going to forever have a place in your heart for him. He made sure of that! They all do...take a piece of our heart which we give willingly.

Sending special thoughts and prayers to you. Fly free sweet Taffy. cat_wings>o

I'm so saddened to read that you've lost your beautiful Taffy. He sounds like such a sweet and special kitty. What a fine, long life you gave him, and how special that you adopted him at age 9. It hurts so much to lose a piece of our hearts like this. My sincere condolences.

So sad for you that you had to say goodbye to your little old man Taffy. Reading your lovely story, I'm sure he had the most wonderful life with you.
Sending prayers for you; it's never easy to learn to live without them!:bighug: Fly free sweet boy and go climbing those trees ! cat_wings>o

Going to put some Taffy pics here. I realize that maybe they should go in the grief forum, but I'm just going to put them here, I hope that is okay.
