Hello, I haven't posted much over the last couple years, but I wanted to come here to say thank you to all on this board who helped us when Taffy was Dx'd with diabetes in Oct 2016.
I have no doubts that I would not have had so much more time with him, were it not for the wonderful people here. So thank you, so much.
Taffy enjoyed life and felt good until the last couple months, he started to decline and was needing more and more care. He had a mass detected early 2020. He was nearly 18, I decided not to do further, invasive diagnosis. Taffy hated car trips, and going to the vet regularly would have been unkind to him. So we just enjoyed the year.
He was an old man who had slowed down a lot, but he still enjoyed jaunty walks around the house outside, taking an occasional sprint towards a tree, which he wanted to climb so badly.
And my boy still enjoyed his foods! Always. I was always so grateful to have a diabetic boy that was good about eating his foods!
And he was such a good patient. He knew when it was time to get checked and he would lie down and let me crouch over him putting his two little white tipped paws together under his chin as I poked his ear. Then he would get his noms, and a shot, and he was ready to go!
For most of the last 2+ years he was only on .25 ml of Lantus. We never got to go OTJ, but we had our routine mastered.
At the end, my final gift to him was to find a home visit vet to come help him pass at home. And she was the most wonderful woman, truly. She was kind, gentle, compassionate, patient. It was a very peaceful and gentle passing.
