Mixed condo for Trix today...for the most part, I can say my usual happy appy, snuggly, spunky, feisty, and anti-jinxes....but it is mixed. Her appy was so-so again last evening; better again this morning. She is being snuggly and social and she was definitely feisty at gelcap time, but there is also something about her demeanor again that tells me something is most likely brewing....her tail posture is droopy (but not always), her leg posture is a bit crouchy (but not always), she's moving slower than usual (she's never speedy anymore to begin with)...that sort of thing - all of which were way better when she was on the Simplecef.
And, last night someone did leave a little pee puddle just outside one of the boxes. We don't know who because we didn't see it happen, but of course Trix would be my first suspect...and this is something that has never ever happened with anyone before. And, this morning she did go to three different boxes before picking one to pee in...pee did seem normal once she went, though. And, of course, her appy is not where it was when she was on the last AB.
So, I did call the vet and request that she fill the Zeniquin; I'm going to go pick it up shortly. Trix really is hard cat to read, though, because she's always been so mellow. The rest of my crew is so hyper that it's easy to tell when they're off; with her, it's much more subtle. And, honestly, if I didn't see such a huge difference when she was on the last AB, I probably wouldn't think anything of the subtleties I'm seeing now.
Hopefully this is the right decision because I don't want to overdo the ABs, but I do sense something is amiss. And, the fact that her WBC count was down from where it was in December but still at the high end of normal after all those ABs she had (10 day course; 10 day break; 28 day course) - that's not HER normal, so that has me suspicious, too. The AB may or may not correct the changes in BW, but hopefully it will do something positive.
@Wendy&Neko - Trix had been on 2.5mg benazepril BID for 3 years. She weighed quite a bit more when we started her on it and since dosing is based on weight, my thinking is maybe she's now over-dose with 2.5mg BID. I did see quite in quite a few places (for both cats and humans) that benazepril can cause elevated potassium, so I figured trying to cut it back a bit might be worth a try.
I haven't started her on B vitamins yet, but that is on my to-do list. Like your IM vetty, my vetty isn't too concerned about where she's at with the anemia yet, but if we can halt/slow the process, we should give it a go.
Anyway...in happier news, today is my civvie triplets, Noah, Petey, and Zen's, 14th birthday! Holy moly, I cannot believe they are 14. And they certainly don't act it!
With that, prayers to all with a few extras for Donna and Flame....
