WCR: VETTY DAY. Today has been a whirlwind of a day and I'm in need of some help/advice. Shasta has her vet appointment this morning (8am)...blood work. They have to sedate her because she is so nasty. All went fine. Blood work came back...all good except glucose was a little high (225) and her Potassium was LOW (2.6). Everything else is within range. Vet did an exam on her; checked her teeth, temperature, heart & lung sounds, and anal sac expression. Also, he wrote me a prescription for cypro, but he did not feel that the ondansatron was necessary. They gave her whatever meds to bring her out of sedation. She seemed to be coming out of it fine. We waited around until the blood work was done and then came home (9:30am). When I let her out of the carrier, she was super grouchy, but hungry. I fed her and gave her some of her Potassium supplement. She ate most all of her fuds and was walking around...seemingly normal (as normal as you can be after an anal sac expression.)
I went out to the pasture to check on my friend and her pony and when I got out there...the pony had just died. I stayed for about an hour and when I got back inside (10:45am), I noticed she was walking with very wobbly legs (like she was drunk). I called the vet back and they said that she might take another hour or so to fully come out of sedation. She was still eating and still able to walk around and jump up on the couch, so I went back out into the pasture to help clean. I got back in the house about 1:30pm and she doesn't seem much better. I feel like she's still sedated. Still wobbly, eyes dilated, growly, but still eating and she just peed in the LB. It's now 3pm and I'm not sure if I should be freaking out right now? Now I'm second guessing myself for giving her the Potassium sup. so soon after sedation. I don't know. Help! Advice?
Sending healthy vines to all our sugar kitties and their hoomins! Blessings!
