Sorry! I forgot that. Try the ranitidine - most obvious first step. People have mentioned plain pumpkin. I have no experience with that. I know that Kaopectate (as it's called in Canada) can be used in cats. It's a kaolin clay + pectin suspension and absorbs water in the GI tract. I used it many years ago for one of my kitties and it helped.

Time will tell. If not No one can say you didn't try. When my Zimmy went downhill I said as long as he's willing to fight so am I. It didn't work out but my conscious was clear that I did everything I could.

Dear lord give AJ the strength to do what she needs to do to persevere. Guide her decisions. I pray for wisdom for the vets to do what is best for Chester and give him the best care... that if is your will he help him recover. If it is his time I pray you give a clear sign so he may go in peace. Amen.

Metronidazole is an antibiotic and antiprotozoal medication used to treat various conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, nonspecific diarrheal disorders, infections caused by Giardia (a cause of diarrhea), and periodontal disease.

It seems that micro-flora has been destroyed by antibiotics. Metro works faster than probiotics.

Ducia's dose at weight 6.5 lb was 50 mg/ml solution 0.5 ml every 12 hours for ten days. Prescribed after amoxicillin been administered.

I was advised against giving omeprazol or prilocec as it lines the GI and blocks the absorption.

If possible ask a homeopathic vet if a tiny amount of baking soda can be helpful with acidy tummy and is safe to use with his electrolyte's dis balance. Many use baking soda to clean their cat's teeth. Here is the article on pro and cons. Baking soda is antacid.
 
I still say give bone broth a try. It has many nutrients he can use right now. I can't comment on the commercially prepared stuff. I made my own. It soothes the intestinal tract. It's worth trying, you have tried everything else.

Just checked ches for tonight's shot. Pmps 14.4.

Last night we went in at 2.75. Would that still be the case?

I tried some royal Canin sensitive wet (gravy) - only thing I could think of to try given his raging intolerance to everything at the moment. It was hoovered up AND stayed in!

So on the basis I'd like to offer him a bit more... advice on tonight's shot please x

I would but I don't want to advise that, and you would need to monitor carefully like last night.. can you cope with another sleepless night?
 
I'm working on the spreadsheet so forgive me if you already posted but what BG did he start at this morning and you gave 2.75u then too...is that right? Just want to see what that cycle looked like before deciding best dose tonight. That is a great pre-shot number!

He seems to be holding the lower numbers even with that food. So yes it might but then again it might not depends on how it's going through his system with the diarrhoea.

I would stick with the 2.75u. He's a bit lower to start but with the higher carb diet it should offset except as Tara says, it could come out the other end. I would be prepared to monitor until at least +4 and maybe a little longer should the need arise. It's your call AJay!
 
Great minds think alike. I'm fishing through looking for SS readings and just had the same thought. Maybe best to do so tomorrow morning though so we don't disjoint the night cycle tonight! :)
 
Give Chester a little snack of whatever he will eat and keep in. If that is the RC digest then so be it. In fact might be a good idea because it's only +3! Let's slow him down a little.

Done. Gave him 2 small t spoons. Hopefully buy me time before testing again. He didn't wolf this down as he did the last lot. But he has finished it.

He did a poo in the tray. Runny and smelly, but not explosive as all the others have been the last few days, also proportionally not much of it. Maybe he is digesting some food :) Also not drinking like a fish n not flooding the litter trays :) Its got to be positive signs surely?

Unlikely to be a blockage? Just thinking of his UTI before he came home.

Good signs! Even if he didn't wolf the food down, if it's staying down and not coming out the backend, you're golden! Besides he ate a good bit pre-shot so he's probably not that hungry. If he does have IBD, then you find a diet he can tolerate and likes and stick with it until he is stable. Then and only then would I give any consideration to trying alternatives. As much as we all hate dry food, even that is better than having Chester's system upset!:D

Yup, agreed. I haven't tried the dry food yet, tho I bought it as a last resort. What I've given him is wet for now.

Ideally, in the future I'd like to get him onto raw, but suspect I'll have to make it myself and keep the fat levels down and lots of supplementation - pre/probiotics etc... We'll see, when we get there. 1 day at a time :)

Vet didn't think we'd get this far in the weekend :) x
