Continuing on from the previous thread re: arthritis meds:

Buprenorphine is called temgesic here in Aust and is not new, so your vet will know about it. It has been used for years here. It is not an anti inflammatory but is a pain killer and belongs to the group of medicines called opioids or narcotics. You need to be careful of the dose. It completely zonked Sheba out and she was unable to eat or drink for several hours til it wore off.
When she stopped the metacam, she was put on tramadol 10 mg twice a day, which seemed to control the pain. That is a pain killer also not an anti inflammatory but it was not as strong as temgesic.
Cartrophen can be given with tramadol.

Thanks so much Bron, and also @Wendy&Neko and @rhiannon and shadow (GA) . Girlie has a strong reaction to certain drugs: the Phenobarbitone turned her into a little zombie, and even a small reduction (from 0.3 to 0.2) makes a huge difference in her alertness. The vet suggested Gapabentin at one point, 1 ml, 2x/day. I started out with just 0.3 ml and that knocked her for six for the rest of the day; I tried 0.5 once the next day, and that so zonked her for so long that it scared the willies out of me: I decided that was enough of the Gabapentin. This makes me a little leery of drugs that list sleepiness as a side effect.

I might mention the Tramadol to my vet. I just would so like to get her off the Meloxicam.

On a side note, I have to laugh: Girlie and I take or have taken so many of the same meds: it's like a mirror medicine cabinet, but hers are liquid and have chicken flavouring. :-)

140 now @+3:30: I never know what to do at this stage: Because she's dropping a lot and quickly, should I give her some higher LC9 food or some MC 12 food to try to stall her dive, or should I let her go and see where she ends up?

I feel like I'm in a time warp where I've asked this question over and over, but each time this happens I wonder all over again... any thoughts?

I used Tramadol for my old German shepherd dog, I think it helped. Shoot, you're at 3.30, not a bad number, but Girlie does have a different pattern than Mav. I wouldn't do a MC food, LC seems fine just now, but you have a better read on Girlie.

ETA Tramadol is a controlled substance (I think ?) here in Canada. I had to sign for it lol

Also, I tried Gabapentin, again for my old GSD, my recollection was that it was for neurological pain.

I think she's starting to like those greens, actually, and wanting to be there again...at least, that's what I'm telling myself... :D

I'm just being mean mom as she's had a fair bit of LLC1 food and waiting until the +4. I'm always torn between wanting to steer and getting ahead of what she might be able to do herself. Just a few minutes to go and then we'll see if she's starting to level out a bit with the LLC or still heading for the bottom of the pool...
