Good morning! Many of you know me, but for those that don't, let me preface by saying that I am an old-timer to FD but new to Lantus .... and I am hoping this will be just be a temporary visit to LL.

Some quick background : Astrophe is 2 years old. At age 1, she was diagnosed with IMHA (immune mediated hemolytic anaemia). Basically, her white blood cells attacked and destroyed her red blood cells. She survived (a miracle in itself) and has been doing very well with a low dose of Pred. Three weeks ago, 15 months after the first episode, she relapsed. The Pred was increased back up to 30mg/day, and cyclosporin was added.

Poor Astrophe developed pancreatitis from the cyclosporin, so we stopped it, and I have been monitoring her BGs since that time. Random checks over the past week show that they are now hovering between 10.5 and 13 (190 - 235). They aren't going up, but they aren't coming down, either, so I will be starting teeny doses of Lantus to see if that can rest her pancreas and give it time to heal.

I will probably start with 0.25u tonight.

So... fingers crossed that this is just a quick trip to the sugardance again ... :-D

Re: 20 May - Astrophe

Welcome Karen!

I've seen your posts on Health and know how much you've helped people there. Please let us know how we can return that help here. We'll all be sending good thoughts to Astrophe to get her pancreas back in shape quickly.

Re: 20 May - Astrophe

Karen, all lantus land welcomes you--Hope Astophe takes the first wave back to the Falls--
Of course we are all here to help..

Re: 20 May - Astrophe

I remember your sweet little girl, and what a fighter she is! Good luck with the Lantus, I hope it does the trick.

Re: 20 May - Astrophe

Welcome Karen,
I hope you visit is very short in LL and Astrophe recovers quickly.
If there is anything we can do, we will. Here's hoping that teeny bits of .25u does the trick!

*waves to a fellow Canadian *

Re: 20 May - Astrophe

I too, hope that Astrophe will only need Lantus for a short time. Hers is a very cute name and I hope she continues to be your miracle little kitty.

Re: 20 May - Astrophe PM PS 184

I lost a young aby to this years ago(immune mediated hemolytic anaemia) it was terrible so glad your Astrophe was able to pull thur wishing you the best with lantus helping her pancreas to rest up cat_pet_icon :YMHUG:

Well, not much of an effect with the 0.25u .... from 184 to 177 at +4 (basically, no movement). I'll keep it at that for a few days, and if it doesn't do much, I'll bump up to 0.5u.

Still, since I was used to seeing numbers in the 500s and 600s when I started with Rambo and Conan, I don't feel very worried about these BGs.
