My stupid alarm did not go off this morning and I ended up giving Napoleon his shot 2 hours late. Has anyone else dealt with having to give a later shot and having it adversely affect the BGs? I just want to know if this is something that is going to mess us up for the next few days. I hate my alarm :-x

There are lots of reasons besides a missed alarm that a shot can be late. The challenge is getting the shot time back on schedule. Whatever time you shot this AM, your PM shot is now 12 hours l
later. I can't get to your SS since I'm on my phone to make a suggestion. If you post at Round + 9 or 10, we can help you with the time shift. The general rule is you can safely shift 15 min per cycle or 30 min in one cycle per d
day. If numbers are over 300, there is another option.

it could affect his BG for a couple of days. Usually the higher numbers don't show up immediately because he's still working off of his shed now, but at some point he'll need to refill that shed. It happens to all of us, though.

When do you need to be back on your regular schedule? Remember tonight's shot is due 12 hours after you shot this morning. If he's high you can shoot a bit early, but if you need to move your time back 2 hours we'll need a strategy for that.

Thanks Sienne and Libby.

I can actually keep him on the 2 hour later schedule - which is 7am because I start my new job this week and this will work out better for us anyway. He was previously on a 5am schedule.

His numbers are not dipping much below 300 these past few cycles, but we just started Lantus a week ago and this new dose has not even kicked in a week due to a BCS dose on 6/02. His AMPS was 131 on 6/02 so I made the mistake of only giving him .5u cause I was not sure how he would react to a higher dose. Learned my lesson with that one though. I did notice though that his BGs are slowly lowering. I know that Lantus works best with patience, so I hope I am on the right track.

you've been on this dose for 8 cycles since the BCS, you can increase it if you want. I would probably go up 0.25 units, to 2.25, since he has gotten blue on the 2 units before. It's just been a while. If you can get at least one spot check today, that should let us know for sure whether it is ok to increase.

Thanks Libby. For the spot check he was at 355 at +7 today, does this help to tell whether we should increase? Would .5 be too much too soon?

I would only go up by 0.25 because he has had yellow on this dose. And yes, I would probably go ahead and increase tonight, if he were mine. ;-)
