Good Morning LLanders!! ~O) ~O) ~O)
Well, I decided that today would be the day that I got back on the FDMB and start posting again. When I stopped last week it was because I was completely demoralized and 95% sure that Morris would have to be PTS. I had several heart to heart talks with him and it seemed as if he was telling me to let go. He wouldn't eat and forcing the medicine into him was making him hate me and hide...and forget about the diarrhea. Anyway, that was my main concern and I just couldn't stand writing and crying about it anymore.

An angel o:-) on this board (thank you Roni!) helped me to see things in a different light. I fed him his favorite thing...shrimp...and he ate it! flip_cat I stopped forcing him to take the medicine, and he started eating....and hasn't stopped since! He still gets probiotics in his food and the transdermal version of the medicine (which everyone says doesn't work). He's back to being his normal self except for that darn diarrhea but it DOES seem to be getting better and we are seeing the vet for a follow-up visit today. All his urine and fecal tests have come back clear and the vet had said last week that she wanted to give him Depo-Medrol if his diarrhea didn't clear up. I said I would need to clear that with my "group". I got some other suggestions by posting on Health that we can try before going to steroids...I will be asking her to test for cobalamin levels and to give him a B12 shot in the meantime. We'll see how flexible she is about taking requests from the client. haha_smiley

Oh, and about that diabetes thing dancing_cat ...it seems to have taken a back seat during all this but his BGs have not been that bad and his dose is coming back down...currently at skinny .50 and he's running mostly blue, with a few dips into green just to keep me on my toes.

Will report back later after we see the vet this afternon...if you have time, send us some good vet vines!

Brenda your post just made my day. Sitting here with a zillion things I have to do, worried about some family things on this dark rainy day... and you brightened everything up! What wonderful news and I am so happy to hear this and happy about Morris! Keep fighting for him (and his shrimp, hee, hee) and you will win this battle.

(((Many hugs!)))

Re: 2/9 Morris AMPS 104 We're B-A-A-A-C-K

I am so glad to see you posting, I was worried when I went looking for him last night and the last post was several days old.

I had a dog on very low-dose medrol for years for a rare allergy she had and it made a huge difference with her. She took a very small dose every 2 or 3 days. Like a mini-steroid. There are some FDMB people using steroids and dealing with the BGs around it. Not recommending it, just trying to add some support if you decide to go that route. :)

Hang in there, Morris, eat eat EAT.

Re: 2/9 Morris AMPS 104 We're B-A-A-A-C-K

So there you guys are! I have been looking, looking, looking for your condos and keep thinking I am missing them.

Welcome back Morris - what a pretty number!

Brenda, let's hope you are all stocked up on the magic foods! I use magic foods with Shadoe just to see if she is sick or just does not like what she is given.

you guys have a great day and welcome back again!

Re: 2/9 Morris AMPS 104 We're B-A-A-A-C-K

brenda, my vet has failed me on more than one occasion but one thing she said that has always struck home to me: sometimes a cat just has to be a cat. it's not fun being a patient all the time. i know we tend to hover and baby our diabetics or sick kitties more (at least i do), but they feel good a lot of the time when they can be felines and not numbers.

sounds as if you're letting morris be morris and it's working for you and him. :) very glad to hear it, and wishing you a really successful/useful vet visit today with him.

re steroids: my cleo and harry are both testaments to the positive aspects of steroids. i almost lost harry last year and cleo was diagnosed with lymphoma this summer so they both ended up on steroids but they've helped them so much. yes, cleo's dose has gone up from around 0.75u to 2u now with prednisolone added to the mix, and harry's on budesonide (that steroid targets his gastrointestinal tract for IBD) and his BG only went up about 20 points, but i'm so glad i got them both on steroids. i have my cats back now. so yes i'd be happy with other alternatives but in both cases steroids became a critical part of their treatment, which is just fine by me when i consider the whole cat report in both cases.

Sending many good vet vines your way and happy to hear that Morris is eating again! Mmmmm, shrimp.

Re: 2/9 Morris AMPS 104 We're B-A-A-A-C-K

Brenda! Welcome back!!!

I've been looking for your condo for days & was concerned that you weren't posting, but your ss looked good so I figured you just needed a break. Should have sent you a PM to check on you. ohmygod_smile

SO glad to hear the great news about Morris boy. :thumbup Now if he could just get that one last P in place!

Bee had 6 weeks of liquipoo due to her IBD, but the B-12 helped enormously. Now it's gone unless a new food choice sets it off for a day. Could be helpful for Morris too!

Sending tons of vines for the vet visit!! Keep us posted, ok?

Re: 2/9 Morris AMPS 104 We're B-A-A-A-C-K

I know how frustrating it is to deal with diarrhea, as I am currently going through it with two IBD cats. If your cat needs steroids, the insulin can be worked around them. It may be more important to treat the other disease(currently undiagnosed, but presumed IBD I think in your case). I would hate to see a shot of injected steroids as a "shot in the dark", when there may be other meds or diet changes possible, or some lighter hitting steroids like Budesonide and Prednisolone. If you start steroids, that does limit your options down the road in terms of diagnostic procedures for IBD or lymphoma, as the steroids will affect the outcome of those tests. It may be worth discussing whether you do want to nail down a diagnosis before starting steroids.

Re: 2/9 Morris AMPS 104 We're B-A-A-A-C-K

A boat load of vines for Morris
Soooo glad to see you back.
Even tho I can't post everyday I have been sneaking in a peek to check in on you two and was worried not to see your condo.

Re: 2/9 Morris AMPS 104 We're B-A-A-A-C-K

It's so good to see you back and to hear the news about Morris. It's probably a good thing Morris didn't crave lobster -- he'd be eating you out of house and home.

As several people have said, the insulin can be worked around a steroid. Look at all of your options. There are several people here who's cats are on steroids.

Re: 2/9 Morris AMPS 104 We're B-A-A-A-C-K

So glad to hear that Morris is eating! Good luck at the vet visit today. cat_pet_icon

Re: 2/9 Morris AMPS 104 We're B-A-A-A-C-K

Thank you all for your nice comments...Morris obviously heeded all those healing vines sent his way over the last weeks...he's on his way back to getting better (anti-jinx)! cat_pet_icon

His BG this morning was great but shot up to 298 at +4 when I brought the carrier out...not sure that was it or not but it remained in the mid 200's all afternoon right up to PMPS.

He had his visit with the vettybean...she keeps trying to make friends with him but he just growls and looks mean and she draws her hand back. His weight dropped again...he's now at 14 lbs. even. I could have sworn he would have put some back on but I guess not, he's only really been eating for 4 days so I guess it will come eventually. I discussed the steroid issue with her and she agreed that they were the last resort, totally willing to go with the B12 shots, which she gave the first one to him today. Kinda weird, she said I could buy the B12 at a "feed store" and give it to him myself, which I knew I could but buy it OTC at a feed store?? :o Have to look into that! As to the cobalamin blood test she said she didn't recommend it since it often gives false readings indicating that everything is OK when it's not so therefore is a waste of money since giving the B12 even if not needed will not do harm as excess is excreted.

So that brings us up to tonight, with a BG of 240, not so hot but tomorrow's another day!

Re: 2/9 Morris AMPS 104 We're B-A-A-A-C-K

I'm glad you're back, I was worried. It sounds like Morris has changed his mind and is not ready to go, and I'm really happy to hear that. I don't have much input about the health issues except that I know you can manage to do whatever Morris needs you to do. ((((Brenda))))

Re: 2/9 Morris AMPS 104 We're B-A-A-A-C-K
