Logan had an ok night. He wouldn't eat anything, but he did get some sleep. This morning, his BG was 256 so they gave him 4 units. He ate almost an entire FF chicken appetizer. His fever hasn't budged. They're giving him so electrolytes. His potassium was low yesterday. I'm sill waiting for the actual internist to call me with a full, detailed update. angry(2)_cat I've only spoken to the techs.

I did go see him at lunch. He purred for me and ate almost an entire can of FF. They said he wasn't as feisty today - not nearly as much growling. That worries me a little, but maybe he's just getting more used to the environment. He's been there since Sat.

I'll post another update once his internist gets around to calling me. DH2B is going at 7 to see him and try to feed him. We're each going once a day so he'll get two visits.

Thanks for the update Kelly, I keep checking for news and hoping all is going well.
He's eating so that's a good thing;I sure hope you hear back with the report soon.
He may have just settled in, shock wearing off and maybe some pain from the surgery?

I hope he eats some more later when DH2B visits him.
I am sure it's going to be a slow comeback but it will happen.

Good report for Logan.. That's great that he ate so much today. I hope he will
rest and have a good day. Maybe he isn't growling cause he is feeling a little better
with that stuff out of him? Hope his little body will use the meds and heal up soon.
Thank you so much for updating Kelly. We are all here and praying for Logan...and you
and DH2B too! :YMHUG:

Thanks for keeping us posted! I think the eating is a good sign. Re: being less feisty, it's possible the anesthesia is still making its way out of his system and is intermittently affecting his energy. Others noted that he's adjusted some to his temporary digs, and that's probably an explanation too.

Hang in there, Logan AND Kelly!

Go Logan kitty!! Get better soon! We miss u here in LL!

((((Kelly and DH2B))) sending good thoughts and prayers!

Good to hear the report. ((((((Kelley, Logan DH2B)))))))
Lots of us have you in their hearts even if we haven't posted before, :thumbup Keep up the good work Logan.

So glad to hear he is eating...that's a very good sign! I'm sending prayers and snowflakes for more improvement every day...hang in there Logan...and Kelly and DH2B!

(((hugs)))

Thanks for the update.

I wonder if Logan is a little less feisty because he's on pain meds. (My very feisty cat was way less feisty on bupe!)

Oh the update.
I've been looking whenever I could and I was worried that I missed something.
So glad to hear Logan is eating and purring for you.
Those are great signs.
We are all still praying he comes home very, very soon to his loving and adoring family.
Tell him all the kitties, and beans miss him bunches and bunches.

Poor guy probably just getting over his trauma. So glad to hear he's eating, and his BG isn't that bad, either. Thank you for posting an update.

I always find the first few days after surgery the most difficult. It so hard to watch our kitties go through the healing process.

I thought Logan's report sounded very positive. Eating and purring for his mama bean! Thank you again for keeping us updated. Thinking of him constantly!

thanks for the update. eager to read what the internist has to say.
never know about the growling. sometimes they're just feeling bad and defensive so they do that more. he may be getting to know them all better now, tho, too.
hope your DH2B has a good visit.

Eating is good! Thanks for the Logan update. Still keeping you guys in thoughts and prayers. Sending a hugh blanket of snowflakes to Logan (actually, sending mega blanket...trying to get rid of some of this snow around here, lol)

Oh, Logan, feel better kitty. Let the fever go down and let the healing begin.

Thank you for keeping us posted! (((( Kelly & Logan ))))

I talked to Logan's internist this afternoon. She's cautiously optimistic about his recovery. She's pleased his temperature hasn't gone back up and that he's eating on his own. She said those are good signs. Apparently, he dropped down to 92 at +6 last night so she took him down to 3 units. She doesn't want him dropping too low while he's there and they're only taking his BG every 6 hours. He was at 297 tonight. She plans on taking blood tomorrow morning to check his WBC and albumin level. Tonight, he ate a FF chicken appetizer for DH2B. He wouldn't eat the FF. Better than nothing, I suppose.

We'll be calling in a little while to see what his temp is before we go to bed. Maybe it will have come down a bit!

"Cautiously optimistic" sounds good to me....glad that he ate something too..... :-D
Hope he does well tonight....thank you for letting us know the latest.
We are all pulling for him.... ((Logan)) and praying too...
(((((Kelly)))))

looks good kelly.
hey he ate a really good amount for the day after surgery and being in a cage at vet's. usually we are trying every trick in the book to get them to eat a few bites, so he is way ahead there.
all in all this is a good update.

looking forward to tomorrow's blood work, hoping that borderline alb.number comes up since that is worrisome.
we're getting big nor'easter snow storm here (oh i see some flakes and the wind is picking up) for next 24 hours so as long as i don't lose power will sure be trapped in house and think i'll come hang out in LL so i can see when you get the blood work results.
btw at these 24 hour places, if you wake up at 3 am and are wondering how he is, you can totally call for updates. might not speak to vet, but the techs can give you status updates at any time.

Thanks for your input, Jojo! Sorry about the weather you'll be getting. We call them at all hours. I woke up at 1:30am and called to check on him. :) This morning, they said his temp was down to 103 - not a huge change, but it's in the right direction! He ate a FF appetizer for them this morning...another good sign. I'll update with blood work results as soon as I get them.

Hello Kelly!
Im so glad to hear logan made it out of surgery. It sounds like there is a lot of hope on your side. Your love for Logan shines through in every post.

Btw...Logan WILL be able to come to the party (with your permission of course)! Can you believe it?!?!! I got him a special pass from the vet! We will have a quiet room set up for those who prefer a more laid back social hour...there is a throne set up and ready for Logan so he can be comfortable and relaxed. Of course he can only come for a short time. But it will be good to see him...and he will be okay! :thumbup

Oh great news. (((Logan))) keep getting stronger and heal fast so you can be home with mommabean abd DH2B cat_pet_icon

well since this is at top of page i'll post here~ came to LL looking to see how logan is doing today, i can't find a 2/10 condo? okay that worries me, kelly you out there? what is news?
hope everything is okay and maybe you are just visiting logan after work and haven't had chance to open new condo for today? hope to see you soon....

Logan's blood work looked pretty good. His albumin is up to 3 (from 2.3) and his ALT was down to 324. On Saturday, his ALT was in the 600s and it was 450 on Monday. Normal is 100 so it's still pretty high, but it's a lot better than it was! His WBC count increased from 22K to 24K, but she said that wasn't abnormal since his body is healing from the surgery and is still fighting the infection. His temp went back up to 103.5 this afternoon but it was down to 102.5 at 8:00 tonight. His BG was 124 tonight so they're not giving him insulin tonight. I couldn't get him to eat a whole lot while I was there so that's a little worrisome I'll call to check on him before I go to bed and see if he ate anything after I left. He was a little late getting his pain meds (about an hour late) so that may have been why he wasn't too interested in eating.

I asked his internist when she would consider him to be out of the woods and she said she believes he's now out of the woods. She's very optimistic about his recovery at this point. I'm still worried and will remain worried...probably even after he's home! I'm his mom, that's my job! She won't send him home until they get the bacteria culture results. They're still pending. She said it takes a little while for the bacteria to grow. She wants to be sure we have the right AB before he comes home. We're in no rush - we'd rather him stay a little longer if it will help him get stronger. We don't want to risk a relapse of any sort!

He's still getting his prednisolone - 5mg once a day - for the IBD.

2/10 Logan Update

What a wonderful update, I'm so happy for you all.

Sending Please Eat vines to your baby.

Hi Kelly - I know you don't know me from the guy down the street, but I have been following your condo and all that has been going on with Logan. I am so elated to read that he is doing so well, after all he has been through. It truly is great news. He is an incredible kitty - what a fighter! I hope all continues to go well and that Logan will be home with you soon. Amazing story - Logan's - Mannie and I send our good wishes and continued thoughts for speedy recovery.

Michelle and Mannie

Re: 2/10 Logan Update

there you are!
awesome update! the alb went up. big whew. :-D
and liver number there much better too. once again they seem to be right on the ball, glad they are waiting for the C&S to come back and keeping him longer.
would expect his appy to be off considering everything, they'll make sure he gets enough calories, don't worry.
i think you can allow yourself to relax more, vets usually err on side of caution when giving prognosis so if she is saying he is out of the woods, usually means he is basking in the sunshine of the field and woods are way off in distance. things looking good.
is there still a lot of discharge from the drain happening? and i'm sure they are, but i have to ask, they are checking daily for ketones right?

There's still quite a bit of stuff coming out of the drain - pretty icky looking. Oh - I forgot to mention he was more anemic today than Monday. I think she said it was his PCV was 30 and she said normal was 37. I was very relieved the albumin went up! I was pretty scared about that.

They tried to get a urine sample from him but he refused most of the day - finally gave them one tonight just before my visit. He is not a fan of no-absorb. They were going to check it for ketones. I'll ask if it was negative when I call tonight. I'm not sure why they didn't check that in the blood.

I think he's more than ready to come home! We're ready to have him home, too.

What a terrific update Kelly.
I am so happy that Logan is dong well and the vet is pleased too.
A mom is a mom is a mom, whether it is for our children or our beloved fur babies.
Prayers and love to all of you and lots and lots of healing vines.

:YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

he is on IV fluids right? PCV always goes down when they are on fluids. is fine.
good, let all that crappus drain out (hmm..another reason it is not bad idea he stays until the drainage slows down, it is pretty messy smelly stuff and will get all over everything in house).
yes it was very very important that alb went up. trust me on that one.
i don't know why they wouldn't just check the ketones via blood rather than urine, but yeah when you call double check that it has been checked.

Fantastic report except for the eating. Hopefully that will change by morning. Whitelight, snowflakes, Reiki and healing and eating vines on their way. Hope you can relax a little. You are all in our prayers.

Quincy says, thank you Logan for the good news. What a great birthday present! Let's party next time you're in LA! We'll show you how kitties party in SoCal!
