Hello everyone.
The holistic vet paid a visit to Sid today. She spent most of the time gathering Sid's history and reading his reports. She examined him and told me he is pretty well hydrated. She suggested that I give him 40mls through his feeding tube rather than SQ because the SQ causes him stress and because getting the fluids through his stomach is more natural. She said if his ketone level is raised or there is a concern, supplement the tube fluids with SQ.
Sid has been anemic this entire time with his PCV at about 22% last blood test (a week or so ago). She said to give linotonic to Sid. It is an iron supplement and will help if he tolerates it without vomiting or too much diarrhea.
She did not do a diabetic acupuncture treatment because that moves too much blood through the stomach and spleen area and that is where Sid has the small cell lymphoma. She did not want to "move" the cancer or disturb it so she only did a chi harmonization where she used a very small insulin size syringe to give Sid a little b12 at 4 points - 2 on his back legs and 2 on the front legs. She told me that she would not do the treatment if it upset him or he didn't tolerate it. Well, Sid is such a trooper about everything. He didn't even flinch and was a very good boy.
She thinks that his ravenous hunger might be due to an elevated T4 level. Though last bloodwork showed him at 2.4, she said that older cats are supposed to be even lower than that. I probably haven't mentioned this yet, but Sid gets so hungry that i've caught him in the last 4-5 days eating the little pieces of carpet that the cats scratch off the scratcher. So I have to pick all this up or he eats it and then wretches. I have only caught him doing it 3 times and then I fed him but now what she is telling me makes sense. I have to check his latest T4 level from a week or so ago and then he might need a low dose of tapazole.
I'm sure none of us are surprised at the possibility that Sid could have a bit of hyperthyroid disease on top of everything else.
I'm keeping him on the prozinc for the time being and will update his SS which I have not done for a couple of days.
His ketone readings from the meter: Sat 1.1 Sun 2.9 Mon 1.5 Tuesday (today) 1.5
On the urine strip, negative each day.
