SO I had a vet appt today for my civie regarding her nail checkup (btw she is fine, no more cone of shame!) And I took her a copy of Moo's numbers to just check in. She said to keep him at .75 another week or so and let it settle.
Another thing I had asked her about was his food.

What is the best time/amount to feed Moo?
She said that part of his problem of his numbers going up and down is from changing his food schedule.
I was doing 1 full can in the AM, 1 full can at the PM, then 1/2 can later at night before I go to bed if he's acting hungry.
But after learning a few smaller meals is better... I've been doing that.
But he seems to be gaining alittle TOO much weight.
She said whatever routine he gets used to would be fine and he and the insulin will adjust.

What do you all think would be best?
Ideally 1 at AM and 1 at PM would be best schedule wise in case my break at work changes for mid day or if my roommate isnt home to help out in the morning w/ a feeding etc.
Any recommendations?
He is eating the canned friskies pate.
I Have some 5.5 oz cans as well as some 13 oz cans...

Thanks!

Hi Anne,
You are doing great w/Moo. You should just look at some of the other charts and how newly diagnosed kitties start. I'm not an expert. Just have a diabetic
kitty of 5yrs now and learn so much these dedicated folks on this board. They might recommend a dose increase, judging from Moo's chart. if that's something you are considering, just post in subject (dose advise) As far as when to feed, when their blood sugars are even a little high, they are much hungrier. Since you can't be there to dose out the food all the time, I wouldn't worry so much about feed timing, except to have available. Get either a feeder with a timer or a frosty bowl. Both will keep food cold. He'll calm down with the eating/weight gain, once his body calms down with the up and down sugars.
Hope this helps.

I do think Moo needs more insulin...I'd take him up to 1u....you do a good job of testing.

Some cats need food management because they drop early in the cycle. Moo doesn't look like he does that. It is better for the pancreas to feed smaller meals but if he's happy and he's relatively flat, I wouldn't worry.
