So, giving a little SQuids in the eve did not make all that much difference in the numbers, but Shadoe definitely looked much better, and acted more relieved.

This morn, nobody woke me up, so I took that as a sign that Shadoe was not in need, and I was right.

She was all stretched out on a rug, then looked up when I came out of the bedroom as if to say 'Oh hi there, good morning'

I did see a lip lick, so before either of us were all that awake, we did the pepcid battle and that was out of the way. Until she learns to talk, she is going to get a bit of pepcid when she licks her lips, even just once. Today's approach after two spit-outs was to put the 1/4 tab in her mouth, then wait it out. That sucker has got to dissolve and if she did not like the taste, well, she should have thought of that before she kept spitting it out. I had her in a comfy position on her back, patting and talking to her, and she just glared at me with HUGE black eyes. Gee maybe she was not happy? I did a wee check by prying open her mouth and it was gone. She got a tiny pure snacks treat and we were done dancing for the morn.

This morn is the last shot at 6u; tonite we will go to 6.5u and the same sequence as last nite: pepcid at +11-ish, shot then codeineTD on ear flap at pmps, then fluids at least 1hour after. Shadoe seemed good with that yesterday, so we will stick with what seemed to make her feel better.

The nice vet is in surgery today and I am not home before she leaves for the day, so I won't get to speak to her till tomorrow evening, unless she calls me at work sometime tomorrow.

Ya know, when you're tossing back 6u BID the cartridge won't last 28days, so there is no worry about the juice getting old  We are at day 20 and I am pretty sure it's not gonna make it to day 28.

So, I am ready for work and Shadoe is happy, rolling back and forth, over and over, on her rug. Oh did I forget to mention that I lined up all her toys and sprayed them liberally with some nice catnip juice
I have a feeling she is off in some fabulous feline 420 land right about now while she watches TV from upside down.

Lots of extra scratches for the kitties today and a restful day for the beans.

If I was drinking something as I read your WCR, I would have spit it out!!!!! Is Booboo stoned too from licking Shadoe's ears? It could really be a pleasant day at your place today! ;-)

Shadoe - be a good girl and continue to feel better today! Gayle, good luck connecting with the good vet.

Re: 2/3 Shadoe +11 311 amps 367

That's too bad about not getting a hold of nice vet today.
Its good that Shadoe is happy and seems to be feeling better.
I could just imagine if I sprayed my house with catnip. OMG I would be able to have a cat urine swiming pool in my kitchen cuz Max gets so excited.
I would love giving it to my gang cuz they are so cute when they are on catnip.

Good luck for later's dosecrease. You are doing right be Shadoe, and maybe you will be able to get those tests done.

Hi Gayle,
Most of us that use pepcid (or an antacid of any type) use it regularly, as in daily. if you wait until you think they might be nauseated...and they are...then you are trying to play catch up. Much easier to nip it in the bud BEFORE it gets bad. If the pancreatitis is ongoing, I imagine the increased tummy acid will continue as well. Has your vet instructed you to give it on a regular basis or as needed?

If you have pill pockets you *could* try giving it that way. Or, put a very thin coating of one on the pill for pilling. Some people have success with a little butter. I always find it sticks to my finger and cant get it in the mouth. Washing down with a squirt of water can often help ease the process (not having to have them hold it in their mouth until it dissolves), as well as make sure it does not get stuck. Pepcid tastes TERRIBLE! Try letting a small bit dissolve in your mouth... Latte would not eat turkey babyfood for two years after I thought I was being sneaky and putting it into a spoon full babyfood. Are you using a pill gun?

If you are going to continue with fluids try to get a vial of famotidine injection. Then you can give it via subqs when you give fluids. And on the other days, give it orally.

A questions...Did your vet talk to you about the maximum amount of pepcid to give in a 24hr period?

Here is info on pepcid if you have not looked at it already:

Hope you and your two kids have a great day!!!!

Re: 2/3 Shadoe +11 311 amps 367

Thanks for your info and questions Carolyn.

I was  when we went to the vets on Jan15/10, so they 'ushered' me into an examining room to wait for the nice vet to come in and see me and Shadoe. Shadoe was already pretty sick, vomiting, and had not eaten in over a day so I was bordering on hostile by having the stupid vet tell me to just change Shadoe's food. It takes everything in me to keep my mouth shut whenever I see her there; man, I can't even look at her without feeling the anger rise.

Anyways, the nice vet gave me cerenia and the codeine TD and the fluids and some other pain stuff and nausea stuff with instructions like give for 3-5days as needed. A nice big goody bag for the crazy lady with the sick cat. For the pepcid, I was told to give 1/4 tab morn and nite, so that's half a 10mg tab daily. I did see another box of double the strength so I have the weaker ones. I did not think it was too much, but I was just trusting the nice vet on the doses of stuff.
The link you provided with doses sounds ok; Shadoe is btn 11-12lb and she is getting 2.5mg twice a day.
I do like the idea of giving the pepcid morn and nite because I won't have to watch so closely; I do believe I am freaking Shadoe out with all my scrutinizing her every move and twitch.

I do have the pill shooter but Shadoe has grown jaws stronger than an alligator somewhere along the line  I will ask about getting a vial of famotidine since I can give easier with the fluids, same time.
Maybe my pill shooting method is flawed.

Anyways, it was all rush rush rush, give Gayle stuff and get her outta here before she goes nuts.
I got a bunch of stuff, took Shadoe home, and we have been just using what we got on that one day.
I picked up the 2nd bag of fluids because the vets and techs said it would be good to continue - I went back to the vets when I had just a bit left from the first bag.

That is why I want to talk to the nice vet tomorrow. I will take my questions and queries; I did leave the prints from the MSU site for the 2 tests, and I definitely want to ask her to make enquiries as to the arrangements.

Tonite we will give another 1/4 pepcid before her shot and then some fluids after the shot.
We are going to 6.5u tonite.

Shadoe came out to greet me when I got home.
Since it was just before pmps, we got the 1/4tab pepcid out of the way with the pill shooter -I got lucky and it went right down! I honestly don't know who was more surprised, me or Shadoe

Test and shot were uneventful; we increased to 6.5u tonite, and we will see what comes of it over the next few days.

Her appetite is just fine; she ate most of the food in the feeder today, but left what she did not like. I picked out all the chicken from my dinner before she had a chance to get her paw in my food.

Now she's all stretched out as usual, doing her cleaning after eating.

Good luck with the dosecrease Gayle.
You know I am praying for results for Shadoe.
Hope you can trap nice vet tomorrow and get a load off your chest.
We will be watching and waiting for news.
