2/27 Milo - Not a normal diabetic yet!

Just got the e-mail from Dr. L that we have been waiting for with the results from his 1 year post SRS follow-up (Jan 25, 2010).

We are still Acro with an IGF-1 of 217, which is up from his 9mth follow-up IGF-1 of 172. The IGF-1 was 345 when he was first dx. I have all his Lab Results up on his SS, which does show a pattern as to the insulin requirements vs. the IGF#.

I think that explains alot. Cuz, lately I have been having trouble trying to understand why his BG numbers are all over the place, and was kinda thinking he was acting more like an acro again, snoring, bottomless pit and all . . .

The study was to only follow these cats for 1 year, but Dr. L has asked that we continue having Milo tested every 3 months and the study will continue to pay for it. She also mentioned that 3 of the cats are now hypothyroid, but so far Milo's is normal.

So, are his recent crappy BG#'s the result of not enough insulin, to much insulin or enlight of the latest test results just typical acro BG's confused_cat

hmm, that's probably not the news you were hoping for ((((Wendi)))). But it's ok, at least now you know that you're not supposed to understand Milo's numbers.

I have so much respect for the acromoms. I like protocol, I can deal with protocol, it helps me know what to do. You guys don't have that to fall back on really, and I'm always in awe about the way you all arrive at your doses. Verra impressed.

Sorry the results are not great, but it's good to know the reason for Milo's numbers, yes?

I always like to know the reason or the cause that helps to explain stuff.
I hope Milo is feeling fine, and it's good to hear he's not hypo.

I'm sorry Wendi! At least it does explain what's going on, but how disappointing. I wonder if Milo will be a candidate for Dr. Lunn's next study, with the drug? She e-mailed me today that she will be announcing that study soon. She did NOT e-mail me Boo's results yet (and I've been waiting since before Christmas! :-x ).

She sent me a doc of all the kitties in the study. While most of them decreased their insulin needs, only two cats (of 11) went OTJ.

So odd, I was looking at his numbers the other day thinking exactly that--just looked like it might be coming back to me. Didn't wanna say that to you, and didn't want to believe it was true. I guess now we know what you should do about those numbers. ((((hugs)))) Glad to see you :) Cawfee? ~O)

holy crappus carolyn, well forget it, i don't have to type anything, she said exactly what i was gonna. was thinking it too, but didn't want to say anything since knew test results were coming in soon but i just couldn't find another reason for that red number (believe me i tried, put wendi through 20 questions) and the sudden areas of lack of regulation and then snapping back into place, and then loosing it and then snapping into place. was making list in head of vet tests that i was gonna start suggesting if the IGF-1 did not come back with a bit of still acro. that thick skull requires more time?

when you have time, could you FB PM me dr. L's e-mail addy? i had it but don't want to go searching for it. i have a couple of questions. thx.

well okay you know what to do, 3.75 units here ya come. he'll snap back into place soon enough.

and ya might wanna do a couple of +1's and see if you can tell how much pancreas is functioning and how much is resistance. let me know when ya do, curious to see results. k?

ps. i have to admit i am sorta disappointed....
((hugs))

Thanks everyone, but it's really not a big deal just a little disappointing that's all.

Hey Heather could you e-mail the info on the other cats, would be nice to compare to Milo's results. Will be really interesting to see where Boo's GH & IGF-1 are at. Dr. L said she was sending Milo's sample in for GH test on Monday - it has been "normal" now for a while.

Carolyn, been awhile since we've had cawfee, need to catch up. Hopefully things will start slowing down around here in the next couple weeks, been really busy with business year end and employee stuff the last couple months.

Jojo, yep that thick skull of his has to be the problem, lol Will up his dose in the morning, and will get you a +1. Will e-mail Dr. Lunn's e-mail right away.

Lol, I busted my prescription glasses in half this morning and I'm sitting here typing in the dark, I have my prescription sunglasses on. Little hard to make out the letters on the keyboard when it's totally black
