Good Morning, Everyone,

Rusty had a bad night of breathing. I was really worried. But after several hours (from about midnight to 3 a.m.) he had a couple of big sneezes and was somewhat better. This morning his breathing is not great, but not as bad as last night. The weather has been not conducive to good breathing. Rusty has his vetty appt. on Tuesday for B-12 shot and rabies shot, so we will also talk to the vet about his congestion. @Laura and Gremlin mentioned that her mother's cat got a sinus flush and was much better afterwards. So I'll ask the vet about that, too. In the meantime, I'm going to see if he will take Allerplex this morning. He used to like his "lung treat" (Allerplex in baby food), but tired of it and refused to eat it beginning about 2 years ago.

The snow/sleet/ice storm has left the trees in our yard bowed to the ground. It was really wild here late last night. I'm supposed to lead an outing tomorrow (originally it was to have been a ski, but now a snowshoe hike looks more realistic, and it might not be possible to do anything). Edward and I will check out the area this afternoon and then I'll make a decision. Weather today is very windy with flurries and there is a flood watch in effect until 7 p.m. I don't think the area of the hike will be affected, but there is a stream that has to be crossed (can't remember if there is a bridge, or just rocks; if the latter we won't attempt it).

Wishing everyone a good day and good health for all of your kitties and yourselves. Today is my brother's 93rd birthday. I remember from when I was a kid and he would come home for a visit and would say to our mother: "mother, why can't you do something with that child!". I never thought I was so bad! (but I guess my friends and I did get into a lot of trouble). Happy Birthday, big brother!! I'll call you later.

Sorry to hear about Rusty's breathing difficulties. Hopefully the Allerplex helps!
We caught just the edge of that storm that rolled through your area yesterday. We had a bit of snow and a bit of hail; the winds picked up now and then. And it sure got cold!

I'm looking for a pattern. And it seems there is one for Rusty all these years......
Try using pollen.com and see what is starting to bloom in your area.

When we have snow, then warm, then snow... back and forth.... it's juniper down here.... ( and elm and mulberry)

Happy Birthday to your DB!

Good to hear that a few sneezes helped poor Rusty last night. How scary for you! Glad he ate his fuds with the Allerplex in it and hope that it helps.

This weather is crazy. We had 75 degrees on Friday and last night the cold front came in and it's back to a fire burning again.

i wasn't remembering your city.... but that isn't true.
NY shows low to medium pollen.... and I noticed in some places it was juniper.....
juniper likes to travel inside on your hair, coat, shoes.... and could very well be a trigger.
And it shoots spores several times a year..... I hate the stuff. I now have asthma because of it.

Good morning,

Hope Rusty gets better soon,
Willow had come down with a cough really bad, like a smokers cough with fluid in her chest, we are on our second round of antibiotics. We also put her on two different inhalers. The inhalers seemed to help. She would have a hard time breathing then start to cough. We had to get a chamber mask thing for the inhalers to work. Willow does not like the mask, yet afterwards she comes to say thank you she can now breath.
It's odd because she has never had this problem before. Good luck and let us know if you figure out what the cause is.

Breathing vines for Rusty. Glad he took the Allerplex. I guess what's old is new again.

I hate juniper too - it causes fire blight on my pear tree leaves. The juniper is in the neighbour's yard.

Bummer about the weather - I hope you manage to get out tomorrow.

Hi again,
Rusty ate so little of the Allerplex (in baby food) that I doubt it did him any good. He didn't eat well all day, but late this afternoon he sneezed up a "rope" of snot and immediately felt better and ate some dinner. Tomorrow we'll try to get him in a day early to see the vettybean. He has had this congestion for the entire time he has lived with us (since 2010), so it is nothing new. Just more severe this winter. He has had numerous x rays, sonograms, U/S, etc. and does not have asthma or tumors or nasal polyps--just chronic congestion.
We have lots of different types of trees in the woods here. We do get pine pollen in the late spring, but the climate is so cold in the winter (we are 45 miles from the Quebec border) that I doubt that any pollen is "out" at this time of year (although the recent thaw may have uncovered some). Anyway, Rhiannon, thanks for the link. (@rhiannon and shadow (GA) .

We snowshoed for 2 hours on the trail to check it out for tomorrow's hike/ski/snowshoe. It was impossible: the "snow" was like frozen styrofoam. I cancelled the outing. So I'll try to get Rusty in to the vet instead.

Going downstairs to hold Rusty's dinner bowl. Thanks for the visits and the support.

just one more tho't....
winds....

my dr has repeatedly "joked" that I should vacation in hawaii during the spring if not year round.
He believes that I am affected by all the pollen that is blown in all the way from the west coast so that I would actually be
okay if I had a west ocean breeze all the time.

so perhaps you are getting some pollen from other areas that just travel... juniper, cedar, pinion, and so many other pine varieties
are all related....Moisture seems to be the real trigger for them.

on the other hand, look inside the box.... (your home, that is)
it could be something like formaldehyde in the walls, or carpet/rugs.... your laundry soap? or if you have furniture older than 6 years, even dust mites.
does having an ionizer help him so that irritants are forced to fall to the ground instead of the air? or an air cleaner?

just some tho'ts....
I know how hard it is to deciper allergies....

Our house (built ca. 1923) was a "cure cottage" for Tuberculous. So there may be old TB spores here. But Rusty had his condition before we adopted him. Of course anything can cause allergies. I don't think we'll go that route!

'night, all

Morning Ella :coffee::coffee::coffee:
Kitteh Barista Vanessa sends LOTS of piping hot Ethiopian today.... :coffee::coffee::coffee::coffee: She says it is way too cold there and frozen and icy and snowy, and you need to stay warmed up.

oh my on your weather. it certainly has been a winter, one here too. I am watching it snow like crazy here this morning, did yesterday too. It warms up so much during the day that this overnight early morning snowfall at night, when it does cool down, is not affecting much. Just pretty to watch it fall, roads etc remain clear. I hope all improves for you. Good idea I think to cancel the snowshoe. Better to be safe... I do hope that you and Edward has a good outing yesterday.

Rusty, many vines for you! Eat your lung treat, it is good for you! Fuds too. Sure was nice to see that green yesterday, though that 36 was pushing it a bit. :D:cool:;) Be good at the vetty too, 'K?
Ella, Mannie was such a master of knowing when treats were meds, and his food was doctored. It was such a battle to get him to take all those meds he had to take before he crossed. You have my sympathy, not easy sometimes to get them to take what they could benefit from. Good luck at the vetty, I hope you were successful getting him in a day early. Vines for Rusty, and hopes that today is a less congested day for him.

Enjoy your day today! I hope all goes well.
