BIG bounce this morning....either that, or a stress reaction to last night's fiascos...

I was very VERY wrong when I said "It can't get any worse" with regards to the cats having free run of the bedroom. It got worse beyond my wildest dreams. Zen, who had already been sleeping in there with us for about a week, was EXTREMELY upset that the other kitties were allowed into "his" room. He normally has big, round happy eyes, but I swear, he had the "dead eyes" look on his face. He chased Frankie under the bed a few times, swatted at Noah when he walked by, and the worst was he totally attacked Trixie, who was just innocently laying on the bed.

Once we escorted all the others out of the bedroom, Zen just curled up in a tight little ball at the end of the bed...no purring, no asking for attention all night long. While it's exhausting to have him constantly waking us up, at least I know that mean he's happy and he's being himself.

If that wasn't enough, about 15 minutes after putting the other cats in the hallway, Noah started scratching at the door. Petey, who doesn't like noise, attacked him. Broke that up, attempted to get purrs out of Zen, then tried to sleep. A few minutes later, Petey started crying outside the door. He has *never* done that. I ignored it as long as I could, then got up and spent a good 15 minutes petting and playing with him. Went back to bed, then Petey started crying AGAIN. Got up again, and came downstairs and stared at the computer for another 20 minutes.

I don't blame Zen at all, and I'm not upset with him at all, either. I blame myself. I should have known...he's not that much of a fighter, but he does have jealousy issues. When someone else is getting too much attention, he has to get his little body in the middle. It was very upsetting for me, knowing that I caused him to be so upset. And I hope the balance we had with everyone isn't permanently damaged. I think I got about 3 hours of sleep last night, including my post-shot BTB.

I have a dentist appointment soon, then I have to work till 8:00. It'll be a long one. I'll catch a few condos here and there as I can, but if I miss some, I'm thinking of everyone!

Have a great day, LL!

Amy

Oh no! You poor thing. You do have a housefull and they all have their own personalities. I hope things settle down and you are able to get some real rest. ((((Amy))))

Re: 2/21 Trixie AMPS 285 +2.25 222

Oh my gosh, Amy! You really need Triple Espressos today from Mannie. Poor Zen, I'm sure all will be forgotten and forgiven. It sure sounded like a good plan the way you described it yesterday. They all sure do have their personalities. Sending all kinds of "can we all get along" vines to the crew. I hope tonight will be better.

Hi Amy. What a night you had. It sounds like all of your kitties decided to get rid of some of their excess energy last night. I guess one good thing is that you might drift off to sleep while in the dental chair  . I doubt if the apple cart got upset with the cats due to last night. We're a multi-cat household also and I believe they have to remind each other of the proper pecking order.

Have a great day and hope you can get some sleep tonight.

Oh Amy, that's awful! What's scarier than than a cat fight.
They really do try to keep each other in their places. Poor l'il Trixie, minding her own business, too
I hope everybody is back to normal today.

Me too..hope you get a catnap in the dentist chair

sending one big happy family vines your way. they all just want a piece of you and i can't blame them. hope you catch your second wind

Hi guys .. I'm sorry you had such a rough night .. I'm sure before too long all will be forgiven from your furgang .. We had to have mocha locked up with us each night while she was on insulin .. it was the easiest way for us to do in the middle of the night tests .. neither cat was happy about it .. and mocha being siamese yakked on and on all night long, every .. single ... night, it was definitely rough so I feel your pain! Have a great day guys!

Looks like she's starting to clear the bounce...

And so here are Zen and Trix this morning...DH took this picture a little while ago. I'm really not surprised, yet it is baffling...

All 5 kitties and DH are happily snoozing together in the family room. It's a very sweet picture. I do not understand why we can't have the same scenario in the bedroom! Last night was an absolute nightmare with how upset Zen is...I'm terrified to try it again. We may just be stuck with having Zen wake us up all night long in the bedroom, and Frankie rattling the bedroom door all night long at the same time...I don't know what else to try.

Time for work...hopefully I can catch more condos later this evening...

Hi Amy

Sorry you guys are having so much trouble.... we've had some trying times ourselves with nocturnal nonsense and "territory/jealousy
issues and I know it gets WAY beyond amusing or "cute". I really hope it's a passing thing, and order will re-establish itself. Sometimes the kitties
just seem to take care of it themselves -
Best of luck

Awww......what a sweet pic! Well, it sounds like all is calm then in the Trixie household! :-D Fingers and paws crossed and vines for a restful and peaceful night.

Are the kitties able to access your room during the day? I'd take some time with Zen in bed with you and you giving him attention and let one cat at a time in with you. If he's getting attention it may help. Right now, Zen is defending his territory. I'd also put a Feliway diffuser or two in the bedroom. It may help to calm things down.

Oh my, Amy, what a night! That sounds like some good advice from Sienne - maybe you could give Zen treats when the other cat comes in as well. I'm glad to see at least Zen and Trixie have made up.

Blech...still a little bouncey here.

The kitties don't have access to the bedroom during the day - none of them. We literally just cat-proofed it yesterday, so until then, they were never allowed in there at all. But we had been letting Zen sleep with us for the past week or so, just because he began wailing like crazy outside the door. It's a recent issue - just withing the last few months.

The other problem we have is that Frankie has been scratching at the door, so between the two of them, we decided we should get the bedroom cat proofed and let everyone have free run, so we beans could POSSIBLY get a full night's sleep.

It was our mistake to start letting Zen in for a week letting anyone else in. He got used to having the space and us to himself, and it made him very happy.

To be honest, I'm not sure I want to try again. He needs some private time with us that is his and only his. He always felt like Mario was big competition, and now that Mario is at the bridge, I kind of want to give him something that is his alone - especially after seeing how he reacted last night.

oh yeah, I've toyed with that idea just a wee bit! The couches are way uncomfortable...but the kitties would be elated!

@Liz - OMG...Zen's claws are SO sharp - I can only imagine what would happen with a blow up mattress  !!

Thanks, Barb! That's just one of several Zen-n-Trix snuggle pictures that DH took today....

I was going to suggest sleeping in the family room, too. You could get a futon mattress and just leave it on the floor (cover it with a nice fleece blanket during the day). Anything for peace in the household! I sure hope everything settles down soon.

Hang in there, Amy!

Ella & Rusty

p.s. that is a lovely pic of Trixie and Zen.
