Guys, I did the stupidest things last night!! I am so cross with myself :banghead: :arghh: :banghead: :arghh: :banghead:

Yesterday evening Noogi was finally coming down nicely into the normal range on his new dose.
After his midnight BG check instead of giving him a little liver treat like normal I gave him a crunchy treat. I had the idea that it might keep him from dipping too low while I was asleep (not sure why I thought that was necessary as he was not in any danger). TBH I did not think it through at all, it was just an impulsive thing. And to make it worse he got so excited with the treat - his favourite, he really misses his crunchy food - I gave him several more!

I woke up 3am to check him, and his BG was sky high. And still in the red this morning. I was shocked - I just hadn't anticipated such a reaction. When I checked my list of foods just now I realized I gave him the treat with the highest carb content of all. I'm such a dumb-dumb! So sorry Noogi-boy :mad::(:rolleyes:

Putting it all down here as a reminder to myself not to do something so thoughtless again.
I'm guessing others have made errors and misjudged aspects about managing this condition - although maybe not as silly as this. I suppose they are all opportunities to learn. Maybe somebody will read this and avoid doing the same with their kitty. ;)

So once more I am starting again after a set-back :arghh:
Hoping he gets back on track soon.

Those dry treats are called kitty crack because cats find them so addictive! :p Give me fries or brownies over a salad too!

High carb dry food "stays in the system" longer than high carb wet food, so you might see the effects on the BG for 24 hours or even longer. Although, he could also stay high from bouncing from the lows of last night.

I'm preparing myself for a weekend of not-ideal numbers

Noogi just put a 'feed-me-a-crunchy' spell on you, that's all. I bet if you search, you'll find his little wizard wand hidden somewhere in the house. Take that away, or he'll use it again!

Don't be too hard on yourself, Helen. He'll come back down. What LC treats do you feed him? I give Jude freeze dried chicken hearts that he adores (although he would prefer his old HC crunchy). They might not be available in in SA, though.

I've given him Orijen Freeze Dried Chicken and Lamb treats before. He's not mad about them. He prefers liver treats. I've just been googling and I see you can get chicken heart treats from a couple local pet food companies - I'll definitely give them a try :bighug:

We use Orijen, too. It's a good little treat, but not Jude's favorite. Here is the link to the brand I buy (I know it may not be available there). They sell the bags "for cats" or "for dogs." The "for dogs" are the exact same as "for cats," but cheaper, so I go with those. https://www.chewy.com/vital-essentials-chicken-hearts/dp/793638
