WCR: Back to her normal hungry, happy self. 4 of the P's are good...but no poo in the lb this morning. She didn't eat much during the day yesterday, so maybe that threw her off? I'll check throughout the day.

It looks like she's going to visit RBC today. Hopefully it will clear quickly. I'm decreasing her food today, smaller portions given at the same times...wonder how that will go.

Her vet mentioned yesterday that I may want to consider giving her injection in different spots instead of always in the scruff. Any thoughts on that? I have read that some people here do switch spots, but they seem to know more than me. Something about absorption?

Vet also mentioned some kind of litter box crystals that test for ketones (and BG's too). She said it was a relatively new product but it might work for me. Has anyone heard of these magical crystals and/or used them?

Re: 2.19 Magnolia AMPS 319

I have been led to believe that absorption is slower in the scruff but I am not looking for any quick n dirty drops; I just want a nice n slow down then surf kinda thing.

You can find pictures online of other injection locations but if you keep switching to a fast spot on the flank and the back to the scruff where is your comparision of any progress or changes?
I don't like too many changes, so I am sticking to the scruff cuz Shadoe and I are both comfy with that spot. Tonight, we are doing have her insulin on left scruff, the other half on the right and then some R right smack dab in the middle. Scruff all the way for us, but others may disagree for good reasons.

Let's see what others say about moving or changing the injection locations.

AMPS 319 +8 70

Thanks Gayle. I definitely don't want to mess with anything now, she's been doing so well. But after her dental maybe it's something we can try. I agree, I don't want fast and dirty.

I'm not sure wth she is doing today. I just got home and shes is 70 before dinner. Can rebounds go both ways? I think I will get a curve soon...to see what she's really up to.

Re: 2.19 Magnolia AMPS 319

I think Magnolia just did a quick drive-by of RBC and decided to come back home!

Shooting locations - I'm a scruff shooter. I tried different locations a couple of times, and each time I tried, I missed. I decided it was better to shoot in the scruff, where I knew I could actually get the insulin into the *inside* of the cat.

Re: 2.19 Magnolia AMPS 319

Wow Magnolia...you're not a rebound kind of girl, are you?

Nice.

I've heard of this, but not used it. I'm giving myself a headache trying to remember if I read about this litter or talked to someone (like my vet) about it.

Re: 2.19 Magnolia AMPS 319

i'm a scruff shooter, too. tried to shoot in the flank a couple of times, but decided i'd rather keep my hands. supposedly, insulin is absorbed faster when you shoot it in the flank, but as jojo used to say, "why would you want a long acting insulin to be absorbed faster?" having said that, you could always experiment with different locations. bd has a nifty little diagram of injection sites here: http://www.bd.com/us/diabetes/page.aspx?cat=7001&id=7374

have not heard of the magical crystals...

PMPS 53

She drove right past RBC for sure.

I shot her full dose. I'm home to test and will stay on top of it. It seems that with eating less, she has lower numbers.

Re: 2.19 Magnolia PMPS 53!

Oh I think I'll be around all night Libby!

And can it still be considered BOS, Ronnie? I'm feeling really comfortable with shooting low now that I have done it a few times and I have an idea of what to expect. Maybe little tiny BOS. Ha!

Pulling out the Wii. It's gonna be an all nighter!

Re: 2.19 Magnolia PMPS 53!

Now that's what I call a very pretty number!
Well done there!
Put the coffee on!

+1 61

I left her can of food out on the table and she climbed up to help herself!!! :o She ate LC moments before the +1 test. Does that change how I should proceed? Is this 61 with a food spike? Sneaky little kitty.

Re: 2.19 Magnolia PMPS 53!

Sara,
Quick, hide that can opener before sneaky kitty opens her own cans of food.

Never good to leave anything uncovered with a kitty in the house; they can find it easy.

Re: 2.19 Magnolia +2 38

Her MC is just a mix of 1/2 LC (Wellness Chicken) and 1/2 of the lower HC (Wellness Chicken & Lobster) I ran back in and mixed a bit more of the HC in to make it more HC...I'll see where she is in 20.

Should I have pulled out the big guns...the FF w/gravy?

She's totally chill, happy, purry, washing her face right now.

Re: 2.19 Magnolia +2 38

Grrr...I'm sorry Jill I missed your message, I wasn't ignoring your advice. I was using my phone to check in, small screen.

The good thing is...she has a GREAT appetite. If she hasn't gone up in a few minutes, I will give her the ff w/gravy and...she will eat again.

Re: 2.19 Magnolia +2 38

Will do Jill. Thanks everyone for all the quick replies. This is what I get for saying I was comfortable with shooting the low!

I guess I lost sight of the fact that this is GOOD...dose reductions are awesome.

+3.5 is 83, I think she is safe now and on her way up, but I'll stay up to get another check or two. Her feeder goes off next at 2am. Any suggestions for necessary checks?

phew! i'm fading fast and getting my butt kicked in mario cart. i really can't drive when i'm sleepy.

her feeder feeds at +4 & +6.5. I loaded up some lower MC in the 4 slot and LC in the 6.5 slot.

thanks jill for your help!
