Logan didn't eat much overnight and is still not eating. His BG was 259 this morning. His fever is back up to 103.8. I spoke to the internist's tech and voiced my concerns about his not eating and the fact that his temp is going back up. I'm waiting for her to call back. I'm going to visit him at lunch.

I'm really worried that the infection is winning today. They still haven't gotten the stupid culture results back.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

(((((Kelly & Logan))))) I'm so sad, reading your update on Logan today. Oh, Kelly, I am so sorry Logan isn't doing to well. I know it is very hard on you right now and you love Logan so much. I have been praying for you guys (even tho I haven't been dropping in condo much) and am sending more white lights and blankets and blankets of snowflakes to Logan. I hope things take a turn for the better and Logan decides he wants to eat and his temp comes down.
(I wonder if he partied to much yesterday....)

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

(((Kelly)) (((Logan))) Try and keep your chin up. I don't think the culture will show anything much for 3 days. Hope they get some results soon. Snowflakes, White light, Reiki and eating and healing vines all headed your way.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

Hi Kelly
I am so sorry for your Logan's update today. He has been doing well and he is fighter.
Sometimes you have to go down before coming back up.
Loga has come a long way and this could just be a hiccup.
We are still praying for him and sending some healing and eating vines
his way.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

((((( Kelly & Logan )))) I'm so sorry about the hard news today. I know you're doing your very best, doing all you can for him. I hope his appetite is encouraged when he sees his bean and he continues to make great progress, like he has been.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

I'm sorry to hear Logan's not eating better. But maybe all the ABs are making him feel like crap. I know for Quincy, one of the hardest times he ever had was when he was on the antibiotic Baytril for 2 weeks. It definitely affected his appetite and sapped his energy because his GI system was so messed up by the AB. So, maybe there is another, more benign explanation for his behavior today. I don't blame you for worrying, though, and for being impatient about the culture results. I hope you get some good news soon.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

Maybe he'll eat for you. KB, my food worshipper, doesn't eat when at the vet. I think you said they didn't give him his PM insulin so the BG doesn't seem horrible for a "fur shot". I hope he perks up for your visit and can come home soon.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

The tech I spoke to offered him some other food and he ate about 1/4 of a 3 oz can. I got him to eat a little under a 1/2 can of FF. She changed his IV this morning - put it in the other front leg. She said it's possible he had some inflammation around that site and it was bothering him. They took his temp shortly after the change and it was back down to 103. We're hoping and praying that's all it is! The internist did go ahead and prescribe an appetite stimulant, which I gave him while I was there. The tech asked me if I would give it to him - he's not very cooperative for them.

I feel a little better after seeing him, but I'm still worried. I just feel like any little thing could turn into a huge setback for him. The internist is supposed to call me later so I'll see what she says.

Logan was preening himself when I left. He was actually more interested in that than loving on his mommy!

You know that's not true Kelly, :-D He is showing off for you saying, you see Mom,
I'm feeling better and want to look extra handsome when you come and visit cuz I have
these tubes in me and everyone wants to touch me. :-D
That is a good sign that he is "preening himself" He cares!!!
Big kisses to Logan.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

Sending Logan my Healing & Eating Cat spell..with all our love, snowflakes, prayers & healing vines..
The eating & preening does say something for a more positive response from him..Just keep improving there Logan!!

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

Preening is no small thing in a sick kitty so it's a very good sign.

Some of the ABs may put him off of his food -- the appetite stimulant is a good idea. It's also possible that pain meds may send his appetite south. I'd be curious if they try to feed him shortly after they give pain meds. He may be sleepy and not want to eat at that time.

I'm glad you're seeing some progress. There are going to be some moments of ups and downs. As long as the progress continues in a forward direction, it's a good thing. Did you get the latest albumin?.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

Heee... he want's to look good. What a sign!
Let's hope he can come home soon and that all infections will go away permanently.

Send a lot of health vines. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

His albumin was up to 3 yesterday. She didn't do blood work today.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

((Kelly and Logan)) Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers...

Preening is good!...also, good that he ate some, temp is coming down, appy stimulant on board. Sounds like they are doing all the right things for your boy. I hope the change in the IV location will make a difference and his temp will continue to come down. Maybe this is the beginning of turning the corner for Logan! So glad he was doing better when you got to see him last.

Continuing to send lots of healing vines and snowflakes your way....

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

Good thinking, moving the IV. Sounds like the people caring for him really care about their patients.

Preening is great. Sounds like he's not stressed out to be there.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

They do say to feed a cold and starve a fever. Whenever i have had a fever, I never wanted to eat.
Imagine that kitties might feel the same, no? Now his fever is down a bit, maybe he will eat more. The fever itself is the bodies' way of burning off the bacteria, isn't it? Welll, anyway, I am glad you were able to go see him today at lunch. He was preening and that I a good sign, i agree...((Kelly))
Sending lots of love to you and Logan...

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

A little better report this afternoon...preening and eating are good signs. Keep a positive attitude....hopefully this will work just as well as the healing vines, white light, and snowflake blankets!

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

Logan, Logan, Keep on preening, keep on eating, keep on fighting! Your bean loves you and wants to take you home soon. All good wishes, thoughts, and prayers are being sent for that fine, brave kitty.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

He has had a major surgery, a massive infection, hes feeling cruddy and in a strange place, all those combined with all the meds are probably the problem, you just watch him improve when he gets home and feeling more comfortable.
We all are thinking of Logan and sending prayers he is home and feeling much better very very soon.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

Honestly, if I were Logan, I wouldn't want to eat much either. I think the preeening is an excellent sign. But I know how you must feel. Hang in there! Sending you many, many vines.

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

Just a thought... maybe there's a microwave there, and they would let you heat a few bites of food? Maybe he'd lick a few more mouthfuls of warmed food with a little water in it?

Either way... sending heaps of vines and snowflakes, and lots of prayers. And (((((Kelly & Logan))))).

Re: 2/11 Logan Update - I'm worried

That's a very good idea Kathy.
And preening is a very good sign IMHO.

Just got back from our nightly visit - both DH2B and I went. Logan was looking much better tonight. He was very alert and active. We had to keep him from jumping out of the cage. He's ready to go home. He said he's done with that place! His temp was down to 102.9 and his BG was 259 at PMPS. He's eaten fairly well this afternoon. He ate a little over a 1/2 can of FF while we were there.

I'm so relieved he looked good tonight. The internist said the culture is starting to show some stuff - e coli and some other bacteria. She's hoping to know more tomorrow. If the full results come in, he'll most likely come home tomorrow.

Oh I'm so glad to get your latest update Kelly. I've been thinking about your boy. I'm very happy to hear they've done a culture and are getting some results -- fine tuning his antibiotic might make a difference here.

She doesn't want to send him home until she has the right ABs. Keeping our paws and fingers crossed that they can figure it out tomorrow so he doesn't have to spend the weekend there. He's been there for 6 nights now. I don't want him to come home if he's not ready, though. I don't want to chance a relapse of any sort.

I have a question for you, Jess. Is FIP contagious? There's a cat in the cage next to him that has "possible fip" on her chart. That concerns me!

This is a "make my day" post. White light, Reiki, snowflakes and more healing and eating vines and prayers on their way. Hope Logan can come home soon. Wonderful news.

This is truly terrific news Kelly.
I so hope that Logan can spend bust out of that joint and spend the weekend with you.
Healing vines coming your way.

What exciting news!!!!!!! :thumbup You must be so relieved!

I found this info on the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine website:
"FIP is not a highly contagious disease, since by the time the cat develops clinical disease only a small amount of virus is being shed." And here is the entire article: http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/brochures/fip.html

Take care of yourself, (((KELLY)) & get some rest. Sounds like you'll have your baby back home soon!

What great news, Kelly! You guys must be so relieved!

I hope they get the culture soon...I've heard that e coli can be resistant to many antibiotics, so once they get the complete culture, they should be able to dial in the AB that will be the most beneficial to Logan.

Looking forward to more good updates! I hope he'll be home with you soon!

Since they had a big problem in the recent past with this, I have the feeling they will not release him until they are
certain that the ABs they are giving are the correct ones...ya know? I wish he could be home right now...I know how you feel exactly.
If they don't release him yet, it is because they are being overly cautious. I pray that things work out quickly for him.
That was such a great report. So happy that he is eating and feeling so much better.
Please give him a million kisses from Raja and hugs from us all....((Logan))
