The thing about Lantus, is that as you shoot lower numbers, the cycle gets shallower. If you see a kitty drop, for example, 80 points when shooting a 200, you likely will see a drop of a lot less when shooting 100. It's great you shot that AMPS and managed to get such good data today on what happens when you shoot lower blues. Well done today!

Thanks. I thought so and was waiting to see the +3 but by 12:30 am figured out it wasn’t coming.
I was exhausted..fell asleep. Snuggles ate breakfast this morning and then vomited. She gobbled it down and I’m going to have to do even smaller portions spread out the first few hours after shooting. Or, it seems to be this ProPlan Urinary flavor. She vomited the other night also when I gave this flavor. Yesterday I gave a different flavor and she was fine. Ugghh @Suzanne & Darcy

I’m sorry she vomited. Tell me about the Purina Pro Plan Urinary. Is it low carb, medium carb? Dry food or wet food? Why was she eating this when your mom had her? She has a history or UTI? Or FLUTD?

It’s low carb wet food for history crystals in urine x2 per vet’s office. She was not eating the ProPlan with my mom..she was eating prescription Hills c/d wet food which is high carb..around 29%. I started the LC Urinary when it was suggested as a substitution for the HC Urinary. @Suzanne & Darcy

Hi Suzanne yes it is low carb, I suggested it , its lc and low phosphorus, I'm been giving it to Tyler ever since he was blocked

Sandy has had Snuggles since March of 2022 and in her intro post she said

Snuggles has been on prescription c/d wet diet for crystals for approximately two years.

I would like to go to grocery store but her BS dropped 103 points 185@+4 Now I’m nervous to leave for a few hours…ugghh :arghh: @Suzanne & Darcy @Diane Tyler's Mom Do you think it’s safe to leave? @Suzanne & Darcy
Sorry. I was out! But I do hope you were able to get out to the store. She’s having another beautiful cycle today with very stable blue numbers I see on the spreadsheet. I’m really excited to see this. And she’s going to be feeling so much better!

That’s really good to know about this food!

And how are you managing to get so many great tests on Snuggles? It’s wonderful to be gathering this much data. I thought she fought you. Has she settled down a bit on the testing?

Well, she has now allowed me to test her by myself. Isn’t that great? She even purred earlier when I tested her. Now the shot is another story..I haven’t conquered that yet..but hopefully in due time! I just tested her…dang 218..quite the jump in 90 minutes..I guess insulin is wearing off? @Suzanne & Darcy

I went to the store and was gone about 2 hours..us country folk have a 30 minute drive to get groceries! I hesitated because she had dropped a good amount and she was 185 when I left..and I tested her as soon as I got in the house.. 120…and she will not accept snacks from my hubby. In fact, she growled and hissed at him… @Suzanne & Darcy

It may be wearing off. Try not to feed her after her nadir because it can shorten the duration of the insulin. Today she appears to have nadired at +6. If she’s ravenous it shouldn’t be too bad to give her a tsp. Of very low carb food.

I used to have a cat that was living outside of our house and when I brought her inside she was very fearful of my husband. She would hiss at him as well. She was also afraid of brooms. I think the people who had her before and had dumped her were mean to her. There were just too many behaviors that indicated this. Anyway, she eventually came around and didn’t hiss at my husband anymore and wasn’t afraid of him, but it took a long time. She slept next to me every night at my left side tucked under my arm. I was definitely her favorite person.

Oh ok..I fed her around +8..but I will keep that in mind for tonight and tomorrow and see what happens. So, how would I know that at +6 her numbers won’t come down further? How do I know when her nadir is? I fed her snacks around +6 and +8..is that why her numbers jumped up to 218? @Suzanne & Darcy

DH is so good to her too and talks sweet to her…and her response isn’t welcoming. Poor guy! He does try..he hasn’t given up. He gets the stare down whenever he walks by her. @Suzanne & Darcy

Good news that she’s getting easier to test. For the shot, just do it as quickly as you can. I’m sure you do already. Can she be given a little food to eat while you shoot? Even a teaspoon of something she loves? Or baby food? Many times, I would shoot Darcy’s insulin while he was eating, mostly because he was just anxious to get to the fun part after testing but it was easy to do.

I’ve tried to shoot when she’s eating and as soon as I get near her she growls..protecting her food. I do shoot quick, being a nurse I thought no problem…was I ever wrong first time I tried. I will keep trying. She’s a spit fire! @Suzanne & Darcy

I think the +6 snacks were fine especially since you were going out to the store (or was that after?) and like I said, if it was a small amount of LC it’s probably okay. Every cat is different in their response to food so you can play around with it to see how much of a food bump she gets. +8 may be a little late to feed, but then you also have to consider the two hour window before shot time in which she’s not supposed to eat so that her preshot tests are not influenced by food.

It’s all new for her too so it has to become routine. You are doing so great for dealing with such a feisty kitty Your husband must be a really sweet man, too. My Tabitha took a few years to come around. She used to hiss, growl, and swat at my husband’s feet when he walked by sometimes. Was Snuggles really attached to your mom?

This is the kind of thing that you will come to know through gathering testing data. You will get to know her patterns. Then you will be confident. But things to look for if you’re worried about her dropping is the rate at which she is dropping. If you test and test again in an hour and she hasn’t gone down a lot, then you should be okay to give her a snack and leave the house. You can even test and test again in 30 minutes to see how fast (or not) she is dropping. Also, when you know where he nadir is then you know when she typically starts to rise again on her own - and so you would not expect to see any more dropping after that (although we can hope she will surf in flat numbers for some hours.)

My mom was widowed and it was just her and Snuggles for the last 3 years..my moms other cat passed around 3 years before my mom passed. Snuggles would sleep near my mom and they had their play routines ex. The laser light was a nightly routine. Snuggles was attached to my mom..it was sad for Snuggles because she was uprooted from the only house she knew for 10 years and taken 8 hours away…and the only time she went anywhere was to the vet and that was 5 minutes away. It makes me cry just thinking of Snuggles having to go through that. I’m sure there has been a lot of stress for her. I would visit up there about 6 weeks a year…and Snuggles was ok with me..but I had my fair share of scratches. Before my mom got Snuggles she was hesitant and saying what if something happens to me..I told her from day 1 I would take Snuggles and I would want it any other way..she still gets ornery with me but she’s come a long way and I am glad she’s with me..a piece of my mama, who was my best friend. @Suzanne & Darcy

I went to the store at +4.5 to +6.5. I panicked when I got home and checked her BS and it was 120. All I could think of is oh no, it’s dropping..what if it drops to under 50. My DH probably thought he was glad to be leaving once I got home..his stepdad is in the hospital. @Suzanne & Darcy

❤️❤️❤️ I understand. I lost my mom in 2014. I miss. I’m so happy that you eased her mind about Snuggles.

I already did that…twice a day feedings and fresh water…and head count…make sure they are all there..if not I worry about them too…ugghh I hope it’s a yummy supper! Enjoy! @Suzanne & Darcy

Hi there. In my email I saw a post from you that maybe you deleted? Have you worked out when you want to give snacks? Don't stress a whole bunch about it. I understand on the work days that you probably need to fill her up by +3 or +3.5 because you will leave the house and she won't eat for your husband. I also understand that she tends to vomit in the morning if she eats too much. It seems like you are doing a great job. You are giving less for breakfast and then giving snacks/rest of breakfast broken up in the early part of her cycle. We can talk more specifics later if you want to.

She seems to nadir around +6 or +7 so I would not feed after that if it's possible? I'm happy to see the blue on her SS for today. She seemed to have a noticeable "food bump" this morning. Did she eat anything different? Or was it the usual food that's around 4% carbs (is that right?) If so, then she maybe be just really sensitive to carbs. I'm just wondering. It's nothing alarming (so don't worry!!!) I'm just asking. You're doing great.

Yeah. My cat food bill is high! Of course I have more than two inside… and foster kittens. Keep up the good work!
I would love about a dozen kitties inside but

Yes! Please let me know when we can discuss specifics! I will be home all week except for a few appointments. Maybe I can try some suggestions and see what I can work on this week with Snuggles. @Suzanne & Darcy If I deleted a post then I probably thought it didn’t make sense or possibly I edited the post? I’m a mess! Or I got sidetracked!

She’s been getting the same food…no changes! Fancy Feast until her ProPlan Urinary gets here…the 2 day shipping from a lot of these places is nonexistent now! @Suzanne & Darcy

Well it’s not a science! There are general principles of feeding small meals throughout the cycle but you kind of need to find out what works with your cat as well as your schedule! Where’s the confusing post y’all are referring to?
