Good morning kitties. How are you Jelly Beans?

It's February!

Basil seems good this morning. He turned his nose up at his Cowboy Cookout breakfast and ate only a little of it. He seems to eat less breakfast anyway when he has finished up his kitty foodsicles since he usually does that at PM+9:59, it seems!

Here's to a great new month in LL and lots of OTJ parties!

It sounds like Basil's appetite has been decreasing as his numbers are better -- and his numbers are great!

So, it looks like Basil gives us blues at unusual times for a couple of days after his dosecrease, although this time it is starting a few cycles later than the 0.75-to-0.5 change.

Basil seems to be willing to part with more blood today. Yesterday, it was as if there were no blood in there at times!

I will say that with our meter (Wavesense Presto), if that window is not filled, you get a higher reading. It only requires 0.5ul and I THOUGHT that it would not beep and say it was happy with the sample unless the visual window was full, but I was wrong.

It's a great little meter otherwise and I like it so much more than our old One Touch. Don't know if anyone else is using it. Maybe I should start a meter poll!

The poll on meters is a good idea, but was there not some talk awhile back about meters?

If not, then it would be a good idea; I am using the One touch Ultra Mini and it's fine for me, but it's the only one I have ever used, so what do I know?

These are nice numbers for Basil! Keep it up kitty!

Do you use a warmer of some sort for Basil's little ear? I just started using one (an old sock with rice in it) and it makes a HUGE difference. Before, I was having to really squeeze out the blood. Now it flows nicely and I was even able to lower the number on the lancet. It's made the whole process easier, for both me and Magnolia.

Hi Sara!

Yes, we do use a "warmy"--a sock with rice in it. But yesterday, even the warmy wasn't helping. I swear, he was withholding the blood! (OK. maybe not really. But it felt that way!)

Incidentally, my little dog stole the first warmy we made for Basil. He sleeps with it. Basil now has two replacements, and I made a bigger one for my feet in bed at night.

Now that is cute. Really nice numbers for Basil. Are you able to monitor how much he eats during the whole day? Or do you just notice it is only his breakfast he's not finishing.
Both of you are doing great.

Hi Randi,

Yes, we keep the food for the three animals separate. Basil is eating plenty of food, I think. Too much, in fact, since he is very inactive and is gaining weight. He eats the equivalent of a can and a half to two cans of Merrick per day. That's 225 to 300 calories. He should be about 12 pounds, and I think he would do well on about 200 to 225 calories.

But, to answer your question, he is pickiest at breakfast and when the bowl contains a flavor he does not care for, or no longer cares for. Cowboy Cookout is on that list! He was nicely "hungry" at his +4 snack of half a can of FF.
