Any guesses on what might be going on here? Do I just need to be more patient and let the dental effects show up and its meds clear her system? It seems like we get one cycle of blues after a dose adjustment and then we go right back to mid 200s and flat. Like she just doesn't use the insulin we give.

I had hubby fatten up the dose on Sat to see if it would knock her out of the yellows, and it did, but only for 1 cycle again. Then he thought that staying home to take care of the cat meant taking a nap with her and despite my repeated phone calls he slept through getting any +5-6 numbers so we don't know if she found low greens there again or if the 100 was her low.

I am at a loss for what is going on and she just seems to go sideways. We held the dose this week because we were just off of a dental, on new meds, and just had a 50. So it seemed like a good idea to just leave things alone. My vet doesn't really want to go above 3U.

It would be nice to go a few cycles with only a pre-shot and 1mid-cycle too. Her ears are looking pretty bad right now. Because her blood has been really thin for some reason, and just floods through her hair instead of bubbling up, it can take 2-3 pokes to get a strip properly wetted. I am hoping the weird bleeding thing is after-effects of the dental meds and things go back to normal. But her ears could use a break and with her weird pick-a-cycle-and-drop thing going on, I am afraid I am going to miss something I need to see. I am a single mom this week because my husband is travelling so it will be harder for me to stay home for day time pokes and then go to work while he covers the evening shot so it might just turn out that I can't get in many pokes this week.

It this just a rebound? I don't think it is too much insulin. There has just been no reaction to the insulin. I am on my 3rd pen now switching to see if we just had a bad pen of insulin, I don't think we have a whole bad box.

wow, Melanie...doesn't seem to me that it is likely a bad box of pens (though i once had 3 going at the same time
thinking I had messed them up...turns out they were all good)

when you say "break the cycle" do you mean change her dose?

can you check your SS link? I'm getting a google login page.

Re: 12/5 Smokey AMPS 227 +2 232 +4 155 can we break the cycl

By break this cycle, I mean somehow figure out how we get to hold on to the lower numbers and stop the cycle of returning to the mid 200s after a single good cycle.

Dang that link gives me problems! I will try fixing it again, thanks Libby.

Here is a share link https://docs.google.com/open?id=0AmeO4L ... TdwVElvRWc, does this one help Libby?

got it... I had to log in to google to see the SS.

It looks to me like she needs more insulin. It has been 5 days since the last green. Is Smokey still on Tramadol? Sometimes pain meds cause the numbers to drop, or maybe it is the lack of pain that makes the numbers drop.

I want to offer a thought for consideration. Forget Smokey's first round with FD. If you are comparing doses and progress, I think you could make yourself a little nuts. This is a separate experience for both Smokey and you. For any number of cats who return from the Falls, they end up needing more insulin than they did the first time through. From my perspective, you need to give your cat the amount of insulin needed. The amount on the syringe is irrelevant -- it's what Smokey needs. Remember, sometimes you need to bring the dose up in order to get the numbers to come down.

That's weird that it makes you log in, its set to not requiring a log in. Stupid doc

The last Tramadol was given on Sat.

It does make me nuts :) But I also remember that we weren't testing in this phase the first time, we had her at 3U and she was green as green can be before we started to test the first time around so she could have been doing this frustrating crap then too. We didn't do much on the going up last time, just coming down which is much easier imo.

If it looks like more insulin is needed, then thats what I will tell the vet we want to do. We didn't want to do to much the week after the dental with meds on board and the dental itself possibly causing her BGs to drop while we might have been taking her dose up higher, but it doesn't seem to be having that much of an effect at this point. We are seeing blues more often, less pinks, and somewhat lower yellows. But not enough for me and I just didn't want it to just be me being impatient. I can't test as much mid-cycle this week and tomorrow I know I have to be away more of the day, so I would probably want to wait on an increase until tomorrow night or Wed.
