12/30 Tansi Question re PROBOOST supplement

Here’s the thing about remission. She’s still a diabetic. She’s just good controlled instead of insulin controlled. That might tip her back to needing insulin but I don’t know anything about that product or if it’s worth the risk. I hope someone here knows of it. Maybe post on main/health as well?

How’s she doing? Happy New Year!

The glycemic index of maltodextrin is higher than that of table sugar. I would not think it's a great idea for a diet controlled diabetic unless you want Tansi back on insulin.
I certainly do not want him back on insulin! The thing is, his lymphatic numbers are below where they should be, and the lower the lymph numbers, the higher the possibility of fip relapse. The Proboost might improve his numbers. Fip is fatal, diabetes is manageable. I know maltodextrin is not good for diabetes, but my question was more around the issue of whether the benefit of Proboost might outwiegh the risk. I should have worded it better.

What do you mean by "lymphatic" support? Do you mean lymphocytes? They are not the same thing. If you're looking for supplements to support your cat's immune system, I'd suggest checking around your area for a holistic vet.

Thank you very much for your advice.
It is, I am being honest, very difficult for me since I have no medical training, to negotiate around the limitations on cross referencing the nuances between the two very complicated diseases that Tansi has. Many recommendations made by Fip warriors are not appropriate for diabetic cats. On the other hand, some advice I recieve from the FDMB is not appropriate for Fip cats. Veterinarians are generally not knowledgeable about these coexisting conditions either.
So I am doing my best to learn as quickly and as thoroughly as possible.
I feel that your tone is a little hostile, and being sensitive at the moment, I feel hurt and frustrated.

I think preventing FIP relapse would be my main concern. Diabetic cats with cancer take prednisolone because cancer can be fatal and caregivers accept the need for insulin to control diabetes. In my opinion you are faced with the same choice. If Tansi needs insulin so be it. I’d just accept that and not keep her in the lowest numbers if my cat knowing she might need insulin for the rest of her life. It’s hard managing more than one chronic disease.

What day of treatment are you at? Have you been told you might need more than 184 days? My friend’s cat needed an extra 2 weeks.:bighug:

Thanks, that is exactly what I was getting at. I will definitely keep him off any supplement until the last minute, and there is definitely time for his numbers to improve since he is at approximately halfway through the treatment at 44 days. And that's right, some cats require additional doses and some unluckily even relapse and require another 84 day course. Which is financially devastating since by the time all is said and done at the end of 84 days I will have spent about 8000.
FIP warriors don't consider a cat cured unless the lymphatic numbers (whatever that means!) are higher than where Tansi is at. But like I said, there is time for his numbers to improve.
Thanks for better explaining what I was getting at.
Happy new year and many thanks ❤

Cindy -

My apologies if my post sounded hostile. I was confused. What I know about FIP is what I can gather from research. I am more comfortable about with lab reports and was guessing that you were referring to the lab results for lymphocytes. I do not believe that there are ways to assess the lymphatic system. Lymphocytes are one of the forms of white blood cells.

I do agree with what Elise noted. When a cat has a more emergent medical problem/condition, it make more sense to address whatever that condition is and we try to help the caregiver work the insulin needs around that condition.
