I just wanted to let you all know that Sid is in the hospital. I feel very responsible for this because I feel like I should have noticed some sign of this before he got so bad. He appeared to be fine. He was eating well and not vomiting more than usual (hairballs). I did not think he was dehydrated. I also checked his bg 3-5 times/day and I was gradually increasing his insulin because of the two hypo episodes he had previously. (No I cannot do any spot checks during the work week. If I go home for lunch which I cannot always do, I may be able to get a +6).

On Wednesday night Sid was projectile vomiting alot of liquid and would not eat his baby food treat or any other food so I knew we had a big problem. I took him to the emergency vet and he was diagnosed initially with ketoacidosis. He has been seen by three different vets and two of them believe that he has an underlying condition such as a kidney infection. One vet keeps asking me if he could have gotten into any poison such as a lily plant or antifreeze. No, there is no way because I don't have any poison in my house. If it were from bad food, one of the other cats would be sick too.

What we are faced with today is that he appears to be in kidney failure, which they said is not related to the ketoacidosis episode. I do not have all of the bloodwork right now but will get it tomorrow morning. When I took him in Wednesday morning, his BUN was 48 and his PCV was 39%. Those are the two numbers I remember. By this morning, his ketone level was down to zero but his BUN was over 100 and his PCV had gotten much worse.

I'm not sure what is going on but I am still in shock and hoping my little buddy pulls through. They are planning to keep him through Sunday.

Oh, and I should also add that when Sid was diagnosed on Nov 14, all of his values including kidneys were normal except the glucose. So this spike in his kidney values came on very suddenly.

Lydia please don't blame yourself. As you said he seemed to be fine and you took him to the vet as soon as you noticed he wasn't. Hope Sid makes a speedy recovery for you.

Keep thinking possitive and keep fighting along with him.
Sid, sending you some of the strongest of get better vines, buddy.

Lydia, if there had been something to notice sooner about Sid, you would have noticed it. I'm so sorry he's ill, and I hope he improves over the weekend. Please let us know how he's doing. I'll be thinking about you.

Lydia, you did all that you knew to do. Sometimes things just snowball. We are keeping Sid in our thoughts and prayers tonight and hope that he will feel better soon.

(((Lydia)))....I once had a kitty (who lived to be 21) and when she was 12, she got some kind of virus which was bizarre because she was a totally indoor cat and none of the other cats got it. She went into acute renal failure (ARF). The fluids helped immensely and it took about 3 weeks but her kidney values all came back to normal. She passed away suddenly at 21 from CHF with no renal issues. So if it is ARF, there is great hope. If it's chronic kidney disease...there's also hope with treatment.

Sending Sid many, many healing vines, snowflakes, and bright light.

Sending Healing Prayers and vines to dear Sid..Hope Sid will improve. Kitties do hide their pain & illnesses..
We are sending our Love, Snowflakes, & LL Faith that Sid will be better.

Sending more healing energy for Sid, and Binks tells me that the kitties will stop by
to visit Sid and wish him a happy, healthy new year tonight.

and sending you a tiger hug, Lydia...
