Hi all!! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas day with your beloved kitties!! :):)

I'm leaving to my hometown on 12/31, in the morning, and my bf will stay home with Chnoudi. He can shoot, but not test, so I was thinking about a vacation dose for her. How much should it be? 0.10 or a drop??
What's more, should I start shooting it from tomorrow 12/29 or 29/30 , in order to be safe with the depot, or it's ok if he starts as soon as I'll leave?

Chnoudi's numbers are quite high today but......I have to mention something I noticed today and I wasn't aware of it! I got shocked! @Bandit's Mom had told me that before, but now I understand it. The syringes are very different each other.! At some of them, the plunger exceeds or touches the zero line, and at others, it barely touches or it's below it!
In the morning I shot with a syringe, whose plunger was a little below zero line...I was too sleepy to use the calipers but later on, that I checked it, I realized that I actually shot "some insulin" , it was just a big drop.:eek:

In the photos below, you can see the difference of the syringes... The first is the one I shot in the morning. The 2nd is the appropriate one, isn't it? Am I right?
What do i have to do ? Check them all and throw the bad ones?

This is why calipers are your friend, especially with such small amounts! I've found a difference of up to .25 units with badly printed syringes, and if your dose is .25, it makes a huge difference!

How long will you be gone? If it's just for a day, I would skip the shots. I have skipped a few shots in recent months and Ruby will be high for a cycle or two and then she comes back down again.

Hello Katherine!! Thanks for the reply :bighug::bighug:Yes you are right, I got really surprised today that I discovered it!! It's amazing...!

I'm planning to leave for 3 days, that's why I was thinking about the vacation dose... If it was less I would skip..

Do you think your boyfriend can measure a 0.1u dose?

As for the syringes, you are correct. They are often less than 100% identical. However, you've been using these syringes since Chnoudi was diagnosed and her numbers are really good. She went OTJ with these syringes. The variation in syringes is likely random. With larger doses, the effect is likely negligible. But, larger doses for your cat has been 0.25u and you haven't seen huge variability in her response to insulin. She's generally in blue and green numbers.

All of that is my way of saying that if you opt to lower the dose while you're gone, I think Chnoudi will be fine.

Yes, he is trained by me, he can measure 0.10!
You are right... Last year, Chnoudi made a very quick progress and I probably didn't notice this difference in the syringes..!
I will follow your advice, I hope she will be fine with the lower dose and get back soon after that. :bighug::bighug:Thank you soooo much, Sienne!!!

I would go through your syringes and give your bf the syringes that are closest to the zero line being on top. Also print out the hypo page, and make sure he knows where the higher carb or syrup is stored, and maybe give him your access to this site if needed.
I hope you have a great visit with your family.
