((((Sienne))))

My heart breaks for you. I pray that you find strength today and comfort in knowing that you are giving Gabby the greatest gift of all. My candles have been lit to guide Gabby's way.

To One in Sorrow

Let me come in where you are weeping, friend,
And let me take your hand.
I, who have known a sorrow such as yours,
Can understand.

Let me come in -- I would be very still
Beside you in your grief;
I would not bid you cease your weeping, friend,
Tears can bring relief.

Let me come in -- I would only breathe a prayer,
And hold your hand,
For I have known a sorrow such as yours,
And understand.

~ Grace Noll Crowell
this is beautiful....thank you for sharing.

Hugs to you from all who know that pain that breaks a heart. And, yet, the memories flourish to bring smiles in days to come to brighten our path. They are never really gone from us. They forever reside in our heart. Comfort and strength.

So sorry Sienne. If love alone could have saved her, she would be with you forever. Our hearts are breaking right along side yours.

Fly free sweet Gabby, and land softly. My GA, Emmy, a torbie (tortie+tabby - a tortie with stripes) with attitude will keep an eye out for her.

Hugs to you :bighug::bighug::bighug:

So sorry to hear that Gabby is slipping her earthly bonds. You've been an amazing caregiver, Sienne, and you are both blessed to have each other. You and Gabby, Gizmo are in our hearts and thoughts. May Gabby & George enjoy all the love they share until you meet again at the Rainbow Bridge. Fly free, sweet Gabby and soar.

Oh no. Sienne, you have been such a help and inspiration to so many of us in LL. All because of Gabby. Please feel all the love and shared grief pouring over you and Gizmo from all of us. I am so sorry. So sad. Tears.

A candle burns here in the desert for your girl. Safe passage dear Gabby. You are loved. Always will be.

Marilyn

The vet just left with Gabby cradled in her arms. The cardiac labs came in a little later than the other labs. Gabby's kidneys and heart were both giving out. As much as it hurts, this was the last loving decision I could make for my little girl.

Thank you all for your kind and thoughtful words -- as much as I can read them through my tears. Hug your kitties for me because no matter how much time you have with them, it's never enough.

Fly free Gabby and land softly. Play well with your friends at the Bridge and look for George and Gracie. We will all be together again.

Wow, I'm not sure what to say .. I wish I could have been on the board more to send my prayers and positive thoughts to you and Gabby .. Even though it is the last loving act we can show our furbabies, it is one we never want to make .. My heart breaks for you and gizmo ..

Dear Sienne,
My heart is broken for you and tears are running down my face. Special kitties create a crater in our heart when they leave. I remember when you joined the FDMB, I was just new here then. Gabby was famous for diving and making you late for work. I remember the beautiful pictures of Gabby and Gizmo your friend took. Those are precious memories.
I'm certain that Gabby will find her friends on the other side of the rainbow bridge. Her will land softly and be guided by the others. She will be okay. There will be catnip and new toys and it will be fun.
As for the bean, well.... It's soooo hard. You gave her your heart and a loving home. Be proud! Remember the special times and how much Gabby taught you. You loved her so much that you helped her let go. She wasn't alone and she knew that she was loved.

From the bottom of my heart, my most sincere condolences. (((((Sienne )))
Fly free beautiful Gabby.

Oh Sienne:bighug::bighug::bighug:
I was quite shocked when I just turned on the computer this morning and saw your post. I did not realise Gabby was quite so ill. CRD is a horrible disease. You have been a wonderful caring bean to Gabby ....she was so lucky you found her at the shelter. You have given her a beautiful life and now the final gift of love. The photo is very special.
This is the hardest of days for you.
Fly free sweet Gabby and land soft at the bridge...cat_wings>o

Sienne, your beautiful torbie, Gabby will be a treasure in your heart forever. My thoughts and prayers for your comfort are with you. Your photo of her is priceless. Many hugs and love, Kathe

Dear (((Sienne))). I always loved the story of how Gabby chose you. What a fantastic mama bean you've been to her..I'm so very sorry for the pain you're feeling, and also for Gizmo, who must be confused right now.
I know how much it hurts to give that last gift of pain release, to your baby.
I'm sure she's telling all her friends at The Bridge, about her wonderful mama. I bet, some of them are telling her, "yeah I know, she helped give me a better life".
Oh Gabby, we will miss you.
Sienne, I send my most loving thoughts and prayers, for your aching heart.

more hugs, light and love for you and your darling Gabby. What a beauty and a warm, loving relationship you'll always cherish. The kindest but most difficult gift ever to give, those golden wings. Fly free and high sweet Gabby, land softly among all the other dearly loved kitties at the bridge, my Ellie and Abbey and all the others will welcome you (when your tortie self says it's ready). So many here know the sorrow this day brings. cat_wings>o

Sienne, I am so very sorry for the loss of sweet Gabby, my heart aches for you. Hugs to you and Gizmo. Fly free Gabby, land softly, and show your momma a sign when you can.

((((Sienne))))

So sorry to hear it was Gabby's time to leave you. It's such a hard decision to let them go, but it's always the loving one.

Fly free sweet Gabby and land softly cat_wings>o Send mama a sign that you're happy, healthy and waiting for the day you'll be together again

My heart is in a thousand pieces and my eyes are awash with tears as I'm posting this. Please help me to mourn and to celebrate a life well lived.

Gabby is a “pound kitty” who won my heart by curling up on my legs and chewing on my shoelaces when we met at the shelter. Her estimated birthday is Valentine’s Day, 2000. Her predecessor, Gracie, crossed the Bridge on that day and Gabby possesses many of Gracie’s qualities. As best we could guess, Gabby was born around the same time that Gracie crossed. Gabby is a bit of a diva and will not allow anyone except me test her and anyone giving her a shot has to be very courageous and crafty. She is clearly a mama's girl and defines “tortitude.”

Gabby was diagnosed with FD on 5-26-2009. At the time of diagnosis, she was a very sick kitty. She had pancreatitis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and hepatic lipidosis. She spent 3 days on the ICU with two vets being just as happy as I was that she survived. Since that time, she’s been healthy and enduring the relentless attention of Gizmo who adores her. She rightfully earned her crown as the diving diva. It was a challenge to get her numbers regulated and the help of the many people who guided my learning has been valued on a daily basis.

Fast forward to October. At that vet visit, Gabby’s labs showed the early stages of kidney disease and her blood pressure was high. We started her on medication for her blood pressure that affected her appetite. By Thanksgiving, she’d lost an alarming amount of weight and her kidney values were awful. As you’ve all seen, I was able to keep her well regulated until very recently when her BG values became worse than when she was first diagnosed. The kidney disease was very rapidly progressing. Despite an appetite stimulant, medications for nausea, sub-q fluids, and a phosphorus binder, Gabby’s body was just not rebounding. She has been fading away before my eyes.

I know I have said this to several people on the Board. A cat will tell you when it’s her time. It’s our job to be wise enough to listen. This morning, Gabby refused to eat. She has been lying next to her water bowl. It was before dawn, I lit a fire and I picked her up, laid down with her on the sofa with her cuddled on my chest. She gave me a small purr – something she has not done in the last week or two. I told her how much I love her and she looked in my eyes and told me that it was her time to fly free and join the many of her friends who are already at the Bridge. The vet will be here later today.

Gizmo knows Gabby is sick – he spent a good half of an hour grooming her. In my heart, I know that when we bring a kitty into our home, it is a forever decision and that ultimately we choose tears since their time is relatively short. Gabby is my kitty and I am her bean and she let me give her shots, fluids, pills and all else that is involved with her care without a peep. (She hisses at everyone else.) She has weathered a move across the country and to a new condo that she loves as much as I do, the loss of her first companion, George, the ministrations of Gizmo, and this last battle is one that at almost 16 years of age, she just doesn’t have the stamina for. I do not want to let her go but that would be for me and it would be far too painful to see her fade away further.

So, please light candles and send soft light to grace my kitty’s way to the Bridge and to assure her that she is well loved and that her friends will be there to keep her safe and will understand if she doesn’t want to play -- because, after all, she’s a tortie and they will have to win her trust.

What a beautiful tribute you've written for Gabby. I know your heart is broken, but it wouldn't hurt so much if you didn't love her so much. Gabby will forever be in your heart. May you one day meet again on the other side. Sending you prayers of peace and comfort. Fly Free Gabby - and land softly.

sienne. how most of us know the pain and heartbreak these decisions cause us. if it were not for the deep love and devotion we have for our cats and being the bigger person to take on their pain and make it ours we would be nothing. GAbby knew that love and devotion and thanks you for not letting him suffer.
fly free sweet one. you will be remembered by many and especially the old timers.
hugs my friend

Around the world, cheryl, we in Lantus Land are all grieving with you. Tears flowing, remembering your sweet Gabby. Those of us who "know" Gabby have loved the stories of her adventures with Gizmo - you were her bean and both of you had a better life because of it. She has been one of the legends of Lantus Land as you faithfully cared for her during the years with FD.

Sending healing thoughts for you and Gizmo.

Fly free of your broken body sweet Gabby, transformed and whole again. Land with tortitude and whack a few unruly little boys that side of the rainbow bridge.

We'll miss you here.

There are tears in my eyes as I type this. You have been such a great source of strength and knowledge for me and many others.
I hope we are able to provide at least a little love and support to you during this time. What a great bean to listen to you sweet girl when she said she was ready....

Fly free sweet baby girl and remember to send momma a sign to let her know you made it safely

I'm so sorry it was Gabby's time, your devotion to her knew no bounds right up until the very end. Such a tough decision made with so much love ((((((Sienne)))))) may all the wonderful memories you have sooth your broken heart as Gabby floats to the bridge on a wave of LL tears. I will light a candle for her now as I contribute to the wave.

Fly free sweet Gabby:rb_icon: be at peace.

Sienne, I am so very very sorry. You and Gabby have always held a special place in my heart, I am so sorry it was her time. You are right though, they always let us know when it is time. Gabby's method of letting you know was exactly as Mannie's. It was that purr, and I knew, as did you. I will light a candle for her. I know for certain that Mannie is waiting, to help guide her. You and Gabby were the first to guide us here when we began our journey. There is no way he will not be there for her. Gabby I shall miss you,. Fly free little one, land softly at the bridge. We will always remember you, never to be forgotten. :rb_icon:
