Yesterday's I'll Only Go Green if You're Not Watching Condo

Cinco had something of a pokey break yesterday, as Mama was gone and Daddy was busy. So of course, he snuck down to the lagoon to visit China! Don't know if he went again last night, although I doubt it. We're home all day and night today, so I'm guessing we'll get a yellow surf. Tomorrow is his Vet appt. to get a new insulin script, so he'll probably dive. QUESTION: I am going to ask for a script for pens instead of a vial of Lantus. What specifically do I ask for, please? We've only ever used vials, so I'm not sure. Thanks.

I got the call from UCD this morning on Minka. It is definitely renal lymphoma.   She starts chemo tomorrow morning. They will do it once a week with four different drugs, one each week, and then reassess. They said this is a very aggressive cancer and usually spreads to the brain and/or spine. They said some cats respond to the chemo and some don't. They should know after the first four weeks which applies to Minka. They stressed that she has some good things going for her: She does not feel or act ill - many cats at her stage are miserable. Her kidney values improved with fluids. She's eating, albeit with help. Even if she responds to chemo, her life expectancy is most likely less than a year, but ECID. Needless to say, we are devastated. Please keep her in your prayers.

Sasha ate her breakfast, with the added incentive of the Hypo treats mixed in, so I did not give her the Mirtz dose that was due today. I'm playing that by ear.

Harvey is eating and being Harvey. I'm really holding onto the fact that he's improved so much on the current treatment, hoping it means it is IBD and not lymphoma.

It is raining (again) and we are NOT complaining, but DH is talking about building an ark! I'm just glad yard work is totally out of the picture - one less chore I don't have to feel guilty about not having time for.

I have tons to do, but am having trouble getting motivated. I think I'll go hug a cat.

Sending healing vines to all in need, and hugs to all their beans. :YMHUG: Prayers continuing for Amy's DF, Lyresa's DF, Lisa's DF and Elise's DM. Good vetty vines to Skooter and anyone else who needs them.

Oh Tricia. It just isn't fair that you have yet another one fighting that disease. They always give the one year outlook from what I've seen but I'm hopeful that Minka will do well and surprise them all. Prayers, hugs, vines, strenght, and you name it are being sent your way in bushels.

Re: 12/2 Cinco AMPS 298 +3 219 +7 167 Civvie Results

They forgot one of the best things she has going for her: her amazing beans. Sending tons and tons and tons of prayers your way....we are with you every step of the way.

If I remember correctly, I think the script just has to specify "pen" instead of "vial". It's up to the pharmacist, though, as to whether or not they'll sell them to you individually or if they'll make you buy the whole box...every pharmacist is different on that part of the deal.

((((((Tricia, Minka, Cinco,Sasha,Harvey))))) I was so hoping, but you know what, she is in the best possible hands- YOURS!!! And also that of UCD- sounds like she has a great team working for her, so I am going to continue to believe she has a fighting chance to beat this, and I will keep you and her in my prayers, and of course, sending tons and tons of healing and comfort vines. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Tricia, I'm so sorry about Minka's diagnosis. Sending prayers for her and hugs to you. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Furball's script said Lantus Solostar pen 3 ml, quantity one pen. I made a copy of it. I made sure I had a pharmacy that would sell me one pen before I got the script.

:YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG: I'm so sorry about Minka. The others are right, having you for beans is a great big huge plus for her. Sending lots of positive vines.

Our rain has stopped for now, I hope it is a brief break between bands. 1" isn't too shabby but we need MORE!!!!!

Re: 12/2 Cinco AMPS 298 +3 219 +7 167 Civvie Results

Many, many prayers and healing vines for Minka. Tricia, you are such a good mamabean and Minka knows that you will be by her side during her treatment. That's so important. Sending vines of strength for you and DH.

Good news on Harvey and Sasha. And Cinco looks good.

We hear all the reports of heavy rain and flooding and mudslides in CA and hope that you are safe and dry.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

p.s. The pens hold 3 ml, so if you want your vet to prescribe the box of 5 pens, the Rx should specify Lantus Solostar Pens, 5 x 3 ml. (15 ml).
It is usually up to the pharmacist whether they will sell you just one pen, but if the prescription is for the box of 5 and the pharmacy will sell one at a time, you will still be able to use the same prescription for the remaining 4 pens.

Re: 12/2 Cinco AMPS 298 +3 219 +7 167 Civvie Results

Good news about Harvey! Sounds very encouraging. And Sasha, keep eating those noms. Yum, yum.

When I first got the pens for Polly, I just had my vet call in a script for "solstar pens" but I bought the five pack for Polly who had no trouble guzzling through the whole pack in next to no time!

Oh, I was so hoping the cytology would bring better news. But as others have said, Minka's in the best place she could be to fight this...your house. UCD, her fantastic beans. The best team she could have.

Light. Hugs. Prayers.

Marilyn and Polly

Sending so many hugs and vines to you!!! Everyone has already said what I would say, but I don't care, I will say them again!

Your baby is in the best possible hands -- YOURS! You care and love them so much and you give them the best possible chance. ECID so I wouldn't even look at the time table they gave you, Minka is amazing and will defy the odds!

You had mentioned in a condo a few days ago, how it is that you could end up with possibly 6 out of 6 cats with cancer. Easy answer for me....someone knew to send these special babies to you specifically because you would care for them, love them, and give them all the best possible chances in life. And look at the amazing lives you have been able to share with your babies!

What a difficult time this is, but you have your entire LL family surrounding you. I am glad that Harvey is getting back to himself as well, that is encouraging! Skooter has been managing pretty darn well with the IBD over the years and I am sure Harvey will do great as well!

My vet just faxed the prescription to the pharmacy in Canada for me and I told them I wanted the pens and not the vial and they took care of the rest, so not sure what great of help I am with that.

MORE HUGS TO YOU!!!

Re: 12/2 Cinco PMPS 243 Civvie Results

Thanks for support, Elise, Amy, Ruth, Carla, Ann, Ella, Marilyn and Molly.

I think I am still in shock. This has all happened so fast. It would be easier to accept if she seems to feel ill, but she doesn't (anti-jinx!!!). I guess we just take it one day at a time.

I've been telling Cinco what a good boy he is right now, keeping safe numbers and not throwing me any curves. I'm trying to give him plenty of loving and lots of back and neck rubs so he doesn't feel neglected . Funny, he used to be the highest maintenance one in the herd!

Tomorrow will be a crazy day. I drop Minka off at UCD at 8:30, then go into Sac for a doctor appointment (I need cortisone in a couple of fingers) at 10:30, filling the gap with Christmas shopping. Then I plan to grab a sandwich and head back. If Minka is done, I'll pick her up, but if not I'll just head home to get Cinco and then it's back to UCD for his appointment! I'd better get some gas somewhere along the way, too! Dinner might just be take out! ;-)

Thanks for the info on the pens. I made notes.

I really appreciate all your encouragement and kind words. It really helps me deal with all this. You are all wonderful people. :YMHUG:

(((Tricia and kitties)))
I am so sorry about Minka's diagnosis. I like Molly's theory on why the special kitties who need extra care end up with you. I know you will do all the right things to keep Minka feeling good, and she will always know how loved she is. I am sending lots of vines her way.

I'm glad Harvey is doing better and I hope continues to do better!

I don't know what pharmacies you have where you are, but CVS pharmacy will sell me one pen at a time.

Sending hugs to Sasha and Cinco too!

(((Tricia)))

I"m so sorry for Minka's dx. I know it's not what you wanted to hear. I will send extra prayers that the chemo helps her and she will have many good days with the rest of her family. I'm glad Harvey is better and send him healing vines. And always thinking of Sasha and Cinco.

Like I've said before, you are an amazing mom. Your babies are so very lucky to have you. I just hope you will take care of yourself. I hope you got some good cuddle time since it was raining.

Hugs

xoxoxo

Re: 12/2 Cinco AMPS 298 +3 219 +7 167 Civvie Results

So sorry to hear you're having to fight yet another battle with cancer....We were all hoping for better news.

Of course Minka couldn't have a better pair of beans, and it's really good that she's still feeling good...hopefully that means they caught it early enough to be able to help her.

Great that Harvey is back to his old self and hope the hypo treats keep tempting Sasha to eat better. One crisis at a time is more than enough

Cinco's such a good kitty not to add to your worry. Keep it up Cinco! China will keep your seat on the jet ski saved for you when you make it down to the lagoon!

I think know you know about the pharmacy in Canada that I've posted on FB about.....I've had several people tell me that even if they had the script for the vials, they were willing to sell the pens to them (guess it has to do with not needing a script for insulin in Canada)...just can't beat that $133.99 price

Let me know if you need the info though

Sending super vines for Minka's first treatment tomorrow, as well as lots of good vetty vines for Cinco's visit too

Re: 12/2 Cinco PMPS 243 +3.25 95

Thanks for visiting us, Deanna, Marje and Chris.

I'm so excited that we got a Mr. Greenie tonight! Cinco just knew I needed that. He's really tempted by the jetski, Chris!

Sasha and Minka ate their dinners - Sasha still needs those Hypo treats. I'm going to try crushing one and sprinkling it on the top because it's really hard for me to break them up with my pathetic hands.

Harvey only ate about 1/4 of his dinner. I offered him two other flavors and no sale (both already opened), so I opened some Tiki Cat and he inhaled it. :YMSIGH:  I wish I had a nickel for every plate of cat food that went down my disposal!

Fluids went well tonight. MInka is still obviously under the influence of the Meowzapine! She didn't want to hold still until I put a plate of the Tiki Cat in front of her!

I think I can find the info on the Canadian pharmacy if I need it, Chris, but I'll PM you if I can't.

Marje, I got some great cuddles from both Minka and Sasha (Sasha is a master cuddler). It really, really helps, but holding MInka is bittersweet...

So the question is, how low will Mr. Cinco go tonight? I have to get up EARLY, so I hope he's planning a nice, safe surf....please?
